Todays a rest day. There's five days left before I leave for the mission. Only two tests left. Marty made sure we knew about our rest day. We know the final test will be the day before I leave. But the next two tests while be anytime within the next four days. One will most likely be tomorrow.
For my time off I go back to the library. I'd find the diary again but Vincent burned it after I told him about it. There's no good books on the shelves. So I head out to the training grounds. I do remember how I threw my barriers at Wick. Maybe I can practice that. I reach the training grounds and set up a target. I stand twenty feet back and summon a sphere. I throw it at the target. It doesn't fly far enough. Maybe I need to use it during combat. Like how I did with my barriers. I notice Ann practicing on another part of the field. She must've just got here.
I begin to walk over to her, but she summons a huge fire ball above her head. She throws it at a target hundreds of feet away. It nds and explodes leaving a rge crater.
"What in the..." I mutter.
I didn't know Ann could do that! I didn't even know you could that with magic... Ann turns around. She's surprised to see me and jumps.
"Oh, Caleb! Didn't see you there." She says.
She hides her wand and looks down at the ground.
"When did you learn to do that?" I ask.
"Just recently..." She chuckles awkwardly.
She clearly didn't want anyone to know she could do that. Maybe even to impress some one?
"Mark got something to do with this?" I ask.
She hides her face but slowly looks up at me.
"Stop talking about this! I just wanted to practice, nothing special." She yells.
She walks off clearly annoyed. Guess Ann does have somethings she's hiding. This will be nice to watch py out. I walk back to where I was training. I summon another sphere in my hand. I toss it at the target. It hits it but it doesn't even move the target. I try multiple times but nothing ever happens. After a while I start to feel woozy. I try to use more magic but I crumble to my knees. My eyes close and I pass out.
I wake up in the doctors office. Reed sits next to me. Wick and Mark are both standing by the doorway.
"What happened?" I ask them.
"You passed out from mana exhaustion." Reed tells me.
"That happens?" I say surprised.
Reed ughs at this statement.
"You've practiced you magic before, right?" Reed asks me.
"No, I just kind of use it." I tell him.
The doctor comes in and sends the others out of the room. He sits next to me and begins to tell me what had happened.
"So... Caleb. You suffered from mana exhaustion. You should be out of here within the hour. I suggest practicing magic more often and stopping when you start to feel tired." The doctor says.
He tells me to talk to my friends and to meet with his assistant before leaving. He then walks out of the room and the others come back in. I stand up and walk over to them.
"Don't worry Cal, I'll give you some magic tips." Reed tells me.
Wick then walks up to me.
"Maybe we could all train together?" Wick suggests.
"You're just tired of losing our spars!" Mark jokes.
We all joke for a little and walk over to the entrance of the doctors office. There's a young dy with a yellow dress standing by the front.
"Are you the doctors assistant?" I ask her.
"Yes, are you Caleb?" She asks me.
"Yeah I just need to check out with you." I tell her.
She nods and grabs a clip board. She writes something down on a piece of paper and tells me I'm okay to go. I walk out with the others. We reach our tent. Once we get there Reed and Wick leave to go grab some food. I then remember what I saw Ann doing earlier.
"Hey Mark!" I say.
"What's up?" He asks.
"I have a good feeling about you and Ann." I joke.
"What do you mean?" Mark says clueless.
I put my head in my hand. I look over at Mark, he has his head tilted.
"Mark, she clearly has some feelings for you!" I say.
"No way! Ann would never have feelings for me" He ughs.
"Whatever you say man." I say.
I get up and walk out of the tent. Just as I get to the exit I trip and fall on my face. Mark a little chuckle. I walk around the camp for a little. I see two soldiers in a random tent. I recognize their faces. It's Kara's spies. I rush in and swing my sword at them.
"Holy shit!" One says.
They both dodge the attack and grab their swords. One moves to attack me, I summon my barrier and block the attack. He stumbles back. I morph the barrier in to it's sphere form and throw it at the spy. He falls to the ground. The other jumps behind me and swings. I block with my sword and kick his legs. He falls to the ground. I use my barriers to make sure both of them don't move. Vincent rushes over to us.
"What the hell happened?" Vincent yells.
"These are the guys that poisoned Mark!" I shout.
Vincent looks shocked at this.
"But these guys were Bud's strongest soldiers." He rebukes.
"Didn't seem very strong." I say cockily.
We tie up both of the guys and take them over to our interrogation room. Me and Vincent interrogate them.
"Why?" Vincent asks.
"Why, what? Why are you such a bitch!" The one we're interrogating ughs.
"Why would you want to work for Kara? Simple question." Vincent tells them.
"Good tax benefits." He jokes.
Vincent punches them. I've never seen this side of Vincent he's usually very calm. Maybe he really cares about this.
"Caleb! I'm gonna need you to leave the room." He tells me.
I walk out and as I'm leaving I hear shouting. I can't make out what Vincent is saying. I wait for Vincent to come get me again. He walks out of the room covered in blood.
"Vincent..." I mutter.
"I trusted him..." He says, "I thought he was in this for Bud!"
