Arc I: “Apocalypse”
Chapter II: “Growth”
Episode IV: “Demon vs. Demon”
[Kai vs. Grimm]
The two generals stared each other down, the air between them heavy with killing intent.
I need to stop this guy from getting Akira… but at the end of the day, I guess he really was stronger than me.
Kai’s fists clenched.
Otherwise, I’d be ranked higher as a general.
“Nothing like a challenge to stir the blood…” Kai’s aura compressed sharply, his body humming with restrained aether.
“One of my talents — even among the generals — is that I can transform faster than anyone!”
In an instant, Kai’s skin darkened, and ethereal black horns formed out of his skull. His bright red aura bloomed as he ascended to Demon Form Level Two.
Then, without a pause, he Aether-Skipped behind Grimm and unleashed a vicious close-range blast.
Infernal Chant: Canticum Ignis…
“Flaring Bullet!”
The sphere detonated against Grimm’s hand, shoving him back several feet.
With smoke curling from his skin, his lips curled up into a thin smile.
“Not bad. But still…”
His own aura swelled into a concentrated, blood-streaked shroud as his body twisted into Demon Form Level Two.
“Too bad… You weren’t fast enough.” Grimm extended his palm.
Kai Aether-Skipped again, unleashing a series of quick jabs and a heavy hook, but Grimm’s shadows began to respond — stretching from his feet like liquid tendrils.
“Shadow Pull!”
Dark arms coiled from the ground, latching onto Kai’s ankles.
“Tch—!”
“Infinite Shadows.”
A dozen more arms snaked up his legs and torso, locking his arms down.
“Predictable.” Grimm’s smirk deepened. “You like to blitz. That’s your whole style, isn’t it? I’ve already read you.”
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Kai growled, but his eyes sharpened. “Then read this.”
The runes across his forearms flared violently.
“Aether-Skip — Chain Feint.”
His form blurred, not once, but six times in succession, shedding afterimages that lashed out in every direction. Each feint ended in a close?quarters blast to keep Grimm guessing.
The shadows loosened under the sudden pressure, and Kai twisted free, driving a glowing fist straight into Grimm’s gut.
“Got you.”
The impact cratered the earth beneath them. Grimm stumbled back, clutching his abdomen — but his laughter was guttural, menacing.
“You’re clever. I’ll give you that.”
Then his grin widened. “But clever isn’t enough.”
His aura spiked, filling the battlefield with oppressive darkness. The shadows rose like a living ocean.
“What!?”
Kai’s body froze, pulled toward a fixed point as dark tendrils clawed from the ground.
“Grand Shadow Beam.”
The colossal blast consumed Kai before he could raise a full guard. He tried to brace, but the sheer force tore through his defenses, hurling him into the dirt with a thunderous crash.
Kai’s body twitched, blood trickling from the corners of his mouth. His energy flickered like a dying flame.
Grimm rolled his shoulders, letting the shadows sink back into the earth. “And that’s why you’ll always be beneath me.”
“Ugh,” Akira groaned. His eyes fluttered open.
“Akira, you’re finally awake!” Fevee said, tears of relief in her eyes as she hugged him.
“What happened? Where’s Grimm?”
“Kai knocked you out… then they started fighting.”
“Fighting? Why would two generals fight each other?”
“I’m not sure, but Kai seemed determined to stop Grimm from getting you.”
“Hmph. I didn’t need his help.”
Akira stood and stumbled toward the battlefield.
“Kai! Where are you?!”
He froze at the sight of Kai lying in the mud, battered and broken.
“Heh. There you are, vessel,” Grimm sneered.
“Don’t worry — he isn’t dead yet. But he will be. That’s what he gets for betraying the master.”
“…” Akira dropped to his knees, cradling Kai. He… didn’t leave…
“A-Akira… are you there…” Kai whispered weakly.
“Kai! You bastard, I thought you came here to save me…”
Akira choked with tears streaming from his eyes.
“How could you go and lose to a bastard like him…”
“Listen to me… there’s something you must know.”
“What…?”
“The reason Apocalypse wants you… It is because you carry the last hope of our people.”
“W-what?”
Kai’s hand trembled as he gripped Akira’s shoulder.
“We do not come from this planet. We come from a far-off world known as Utopia.
Your uncle… was the God of Utopia, our ruler. After a great war ravaged our world, you and your parents escaped to your mother’s home world.
As your uncle’s dying wish… You inherited his power — the power of the God of Utopia.”
Akira’s eyes widened. “How do you know about my parents?”
“One thing led to another… and that world ended up being destroyed. Your parents sent you here as a last-ditch effort to protect you.
But now… Apocalypse wants your power. They plan to use it to recreate Utopia in their image. You must master it, Akira… defeat him… before he dooms us all.”
Kai’s voice faded, his eyes glazing over.
“Kai! Come back! Kai!!”
So… is this what it’s like to have hope, Raida?
Kai’s vision was stolen by darkness, the world around him muted.
Akira’s arms trembled as Kai’s body grew still. The silence screamed louder than any explosions. For a moment, the battlefield blurred, not from dust or aether—but from tears.
He clenched his fists.
“Why did it have to be you…”
Grimm stepped forward, cracking his knuckles.
“Seems that fool is finally gone. Now stand, vessel. It’s your turn.”
Akira slowly laid Kai’s body on the ground, his hand trembling as he closed Kai’s eyelids.
“I know I said this before… but I’m going to end you. For the pain you’ve caused my friends… for the people of Utopia… and for this world too.”
Grimm’s aura flared. “Bold words. Let’s see if you can back them up.”
Grimm roared as his Demon Form Level Two surged with black-crimson light.
But Akira didn’t flinch. He stood tall and calm, waiting to make his move.
“It aggravates me that you can stand there so confidently, even after witnessing the difference in our powers!”
“What difference…?”
His hair lifted, and his aura ignited — calm and radiant white light. There was no rage, no instability — just a controlled, divine-like presence, steady and overwhelming. White runic patterns materialized on his arms and chest.
Akira had once again entered his Enhanced State.
I’m not sure what this power is… it doesn’t feel like what Kai described… but it doesn’t matter. Either way… I’ll use it to crush you.
He charged forward.
Grimm barely had time to block as Akira blitzed him.
There’s no way! How is this kid keeping up with me!?
The battlefield shuddered violently as they clashed, each strike splintering the ground and sending shockwaves through the trees.
“H-how… how did you get so powerful? This is impossible!” Grimm‘s teeth clenched. His yield hasn’t changed at all! How is he able to move like that?
Akira smirked.
“Oh, really? Then that means you acknowledge me as a threat… Good. Because you should fear me!”
