Arc I - Chapter II - Episode III: "Unlikely Savior!"

  Lyte of Utopia

  Arc I: “Apocalypse”

  Chapter II: “Growth”

  Episode III: “Unlikely Savior!”

  [The Forest]

Rikito growled as his aura deepened into a swirling mass of shadow-violet, his frame bulking with raw power.

“Demon Form! This will be more than enough to deal with the two of you.”

The fused shadow soldier tilted its head, as if wearing a playful grin. It sank into the ground, vanishing into the darkness.

“What the!? It disappeared!” Rikito scanned wildly.

The creature erupted from his shadow, slamming a heavy punch into his side.

“Dammit… now I have to worry about this thing shadow-vanishing and striking from my blind spots. I can’t sense him either.”

His gaze snapped toward the towering brute nearby.

“And that big guy over there is still impervious to most of my attacks.”

  Bills simply grunted, stepping closer.

I need to hurry and finish this… so I can reach Asuka.

  [Elsewhere in the forest…]

Julie skidded to a stop in a clearing, spinning to face her pursuer.

“This should be far enough… Ha! I can’t believe you followed me this far. Now I can do as I please without your troublesome brother interfering.”

“Hmph! You won’t beat me so easily!”

  “Oh yeah?”

Julie’s aura ignited in jagged black-and-blue flames, energy crackling like splintering ice.

“Frozen Demoness! Let’s see about that!”

  “…”

Asuka’s breathing steadied, her hands trembling as she focused.

“My brother… isn’t the only one that can do this.”

“What!?” Julie’s eyes widened as a purplish aura engulfed Asuka.

  “Demon Form!”

“Tch—there’s no way you can use that!”

Julie’s shock twisted into a smirk.

No… this is good. She may be able to transform, but her natural yield was pathetic. I’ll just absorb her and make it mine.

The two clashed fiercely, their blows tearing through the forest. Though Asuka was holding her own, Julie’s strength gave her the edge.

“Dammit. Even this isn’t enough? I thought that I would finally be able to fight alongside my brother!”

Julie laughed cruelly. “You thought you could fight a general with that weak power? That’s embarrassing. Don’t worry… once I absorb you, I’ll pay your friends back with my new strength.”

  “… don’t you dare… threaten my friends!”

Asuka’s aura flared with uncontrolled fury, violet flames spiraling outward as rage overtook her.

  [Woodberry]

Shit… my form’s gone, and my muscles are locking up. Stand up! Come on, Akira—stand up!

“It’s over,” Grimm sneered, charging a beam. “Shadow Beam!”

  The attack roared toward Akira—

—until a figure crashed down, deflecting the blast with one hand.

“W-what!? Kai?! Why did you save me!?”

Grimm’s face twisted. “Kai. Why are you here? Why are you interfering?”

“… I can’t exactly let you kill the vessel now, can I?”

“Hmph. That attack wouldn’t have killed him. Hurt him? Sure. But not kill him.”

“How about you leave Akira alone… and fight me instead.”

“What? Why would I do that? We both work for the master.”

  Kai’s gaze sharpened. “Do we?”

  Grimm froze.

“Kai… don’t you dare tell me you’re betraying our master!”

“…” Kai turned to Akira. “Are you alright?”

“Hmph. I don’t need your sympathy. You’re not my master anymore. I don’t want anything to do with you… and I don’t need your help!”

“Is that so… well, after what I did, I don’t blame you.” His hand blurred. “But it’s too bad I can’t respect your wishes.”

  “Wha—”

Kai struck Akira in the neck, knocking him unconscious.

“Akira!” Fevee screamed from the sidelines.

Grimm’s aura exploded. “So, you really intend to fight me, Kai? Fine. I’ll just kill you and take the vessel by force!”

  “Then come.”

As Kai’s power condensed and sharpened, his Demonic Base Form enveloped him in a controlled storm of aether before he clashed with Grimm in a whirlwind of blows.

For a moment, they were evenly matched—until Grimm smirked.

“Ha! How will you handle this?”

He sank into the shadows, vanishing.

  I can’t sense him!

  Kai shot skyward.

If I don’t know where he’ll come from… then I’ll just limit his options!

“You’ll have to do better than that!” Grimm said as he erupted from behind, nearly landing a clean strike.

  Kai barely blocked.

“Dammit. Why can’t I sense these attacks?!”

Grimm chuckled darkly. “Wouldn’t you like to know.”

  [Rikito vs. Bills]

“I’m going to end this right here, right now!”

  “Dark Demolition Cannon!”

The violet-black beam thundered forward, carving through Bills’ massive frame and leaving the giant staggering, barely standing.

“That’s one…” Rikito panted. “Now I just have to deal with this damn shadow.”
