*POOF*A swarm of multicoloured paper airpnes in the shape of Pelican dropships circled around John, the little aircraft pelting him with little balls from their miniature autocannons as they buzzed past his head. A piece composed by Wilhelm Richard Wagner, Flight of the Valkyries, was bring over the speakers, and the sounds of a distant battle could be heard along with it.
"The hell? Alec!" John shouted, swatting at the offending aircraft and covering his eye... his eye? "Where is my other eye?!?!"
"Welcome back, John! How was-"
"Who cares about that? Where is my eye, Alec?"
"I believe you left it in Warcraft 3, along with that side of your face," Alec replied, making the little Pelican's disappear with a snap of his fingers. "I did tell you if you left things behind, we wouldn't get it for you."
"That was stuff! This is my body we are talking about! How do I expin this to anyone in other worlds?" He said, gesturing to the blind side of his face.
"Well, most of them know you are traveling worlds already. I don't see any issue with that." Alec replied, his shit eating grin returning to his face. "John, have a drink and think for a second. In all of these worlds you have traveled to, do you think maybe one or two just might be able to make you a new eye, either through magic or technology?"
"I was under the understanding that when I returned here, I would be made whole again."
"Not any more. It's the drawback of that new achievement of yours. You get to bring it with you now, your new stats, both good and bad."
"God, every time I come here, it is just like a game I can't win, isn't it?" John said, now having serious concerns about his safety in these worlds.
"Fret not, John. If you die in one of these worlds, as long as you have a New World Bonus, we will revive you with your whole body and able to try again. If you do not, then you just get the new body, and that world will be locked out for you, forever. Now have a drink, and tell us what you thought about Warcraft 3," Alec said, steepling his hands in front of himself.
John just took his gss of Westria and downed it, the divine drink calming his agitation immediately. He almost poured it out on the floor instead, but that wasn't going to get him anywhere right now. He was now disfigured and half blind until he figured out a way to repair that side of his face.
Fine, I’ll py your games… not like I have a choice.
He was already looking for powerful healing magics; there was bound to be one somewhere to grow back missing body parts. If he returned to Infinite Frontiers, he was sure he could get some sort of prosthetic installed to repce his eye, or maybe even the better Auto-Docs could build one. It wasn't ideal, but chances were that anything he received in that world would work better than a natural eye.
He took a few moments to compose his thoughts before replying. He had a lot he wanted to say about that pce, good and bad, but wasn't sure exactly where to start. "What was with the Prince's memories? Hell, I still have them inside me now, like I am two different people."
"Ahh, well, that was a side effect of your own failing brain and that little prank we pulled at the beginning. Your brain couldn't handle downloading everything at once, so we had to spoon feed it to you. If we didn't py that little joke, we would have just held you at the start until it was all in there. Then you went and had the crap kicked out of yourself a few times, which jarred more stuff around. Honestly, with us tinkering around in there at the same time as that Titan, it is a surprise you didn't wake up a vegetable."
"So it was a Titan. Why the hell is a Titan even concerned about a prince of that pnet? That would be like me being concerned about an ant or some bacteria."
A vegetable? Really?
"You would be surprised. Get the wrong type of bacteria in you, and it can kill you. I think he was hoping to use you before you had a chance to oppose him, but I am pretty sure he is going to fail in his attempt to convert you to their side. Though you have surprised me before."
"So all those feelings from the prince for Jaina, Uther, and these other people. Why do I have those?"
"John, your feelings are the sum of your memories. Unlike in the other worlds you have travelled to, you were repcing a pivotal figure in that world's lore. You needed all these feelings because you wouldn't be able to function in this world otherwise, unless you just pnned on staying on the front lines and killing undead until you were overrun. By the way, excellent use of the dropship, I can't even recall if I have ever seen medieval troops becoming an airborne unit before."
"Well, you did say you wanted a show. I wasn't sure whether it was a big deal to use it like that, but I said fuck it, we are needed there now, not in a few days.”
"Go ahead, it is literally what the show is about. If you want to follow along with the story, using the tech avaible in that world, go ahead. If you want to pull out some sci-fi gear and start going to town in The Great Cleric or High School of the Dead, there is nothing wrong with that either, just be aware you might have some expining to do to the people there. All we ask is that you don't mention DEN until after you break the canon, which I can most assuredly confirm you did. The canon was broken on the third day. The rest is just sauce on the goose, or in this case, Gatcha tokens for you. Now I see you have made a bit of a list there. "
"Yeah," John said, scrolling through the list himself. Most of the questions seemed rather inane to him now, like why the footmen were holding their shields on the wrong side.
"It was how the game was designed; maybe the modelers didn't think about that, or maybe they had a reason. Who knows. How it manifests in the real world is that most of the popution is left handed. It’s that simple." Alec said, reading his mind.
"A game? Is that also why some of those first conversations I had with people seemed so scripted as well?" Remember that Infinite Frontiers was based on a game as well.
"Yep. Those were quests. You encountered a few of them, all right up until you got sshed by that orc and ripped his throat out. I must say, you reminded me of a certain Tigerfolk during that fight. Did Xiaolin’s temper rub off on you a little bit?"
What?
"Ahh... no. It was just the only tool I had to use in the heat of the moment." John replied, not sure what Alec meant. Xiaolin did mention she was quite the well known warrior in some of the worlds she was in, but nothing about the actual combat.
Something sailed in from the side of the stage and whacked Alec in the head, then dropped to the floor. John blinked a few times at the item as he tried to register what it was, then ughed. It was a ball of yarn.
"Hmm, the kitten has cws still. Fine, Xiaolin, I won't bring up your time as a blood sport gdiator." Alec said, smirking towards the hidden camerawoman.
"Don't you dare!" John heard her call out, another ball of yarn flying at Alec, causing them both to chuckle.
"Hah! I surrender!" Alec said, then turned his attention back to John. "Still, I am gd you did that, as it gave us the opportunity to give you your New World Bonus."
"My bonus? You mean the Fel in my eye? Wait, is it still there?"
"Yes, it was, and no, only in Warcraft 3 will you have Fel staining your eye. Among other things, it allowed your mind to see visions of possible futures, though you are already well on your way to changing some of those outcomes. The fact that the Titan noticed you was because of it, and how did the director put it? Oh yes, a happy little accident. Your actions actually drew the attention of a few higher beings that didn't really py much part in that game, at least not at this point. I can't wait to see what you do next there."
There it is again. I swear I know that phrase from somewhere...
"Was there anything else you wanted to go over before we continue with the show?"
"Yeah. Whose idea was it to give all my soldiers that weird naming convention?"
"The Director. He thought it was great that all the nameless soldiers in that game, that normally die by the hundreds, had been asked what their names were, and decided to have some fun with the ones with whom you were interacting."
"You mentioned him before. Who is this man, and can I meet him?"
"He is the Director, the being in charge of DEN. He is just like the rest of us beings here in the Omni and runs the show behind the scenes. I would say he is my boss, but that isn't how we do things here. He is just the first among equals if you will." Alec replied, then took a sip of his drink. "As for meeting him? If you win the show, you will meet him then. He will be the one to bestow upon you the powers of the Omni so you can take your pce here amongst us."
"Win the show, hun? Well, we might as well get on with it then. I need to get back to The Great Cleric to get new spell tomes, since I already found resurrection magic without needing to pay for it."
"That you did, John. That you did." Alec replied, that punchable grin returning to his face. "Still, there are other worlds and people you can learn that magic from if you need to, so our offer remains on the table."
"Sure. Now let's see how I did." John said, sitting back and taking another drink, his gss magically refilling again.

John was at a loss for words.
"See, I told you that you blew the canon out of the water this time," Alec said, his grin turning to a genuine smile. "Man, what an interesting story this world is going to tell when you're done with it. I can't wait until you return."
John just blinked.
