Chapter 14- Carriage rides

Mark's carriage had crashed just outside of town. He was going to the giant territory. Just before we had left Louis's vilge Bud told Mark to ride down to the revolutionaries base. Mark had sent out just after us. Mark isn't mad about Louis. He knows I didn't kill him, nor did I want him to die. We catch up on things that have been happening recently. I tell him about Louis's students trying to kill me and how Bud was dead. He shares he's had problems too. He spent most of his money on carriage rides and he doesn't have enough for food. He expected to be at his destination by now but his carriage crash set him back a few days. Since we're going to same pce I offer to buy him one. That way we could all go.

"You'd really do that?" Mark asks.

"Yeah, we've got enough." I say, "Ann we've got enough right?"

"We have... one gold and twenty three silver left." Ann tells me.

Carriage rides are ten silver each. If we get lucky we'll only need one. The closest ride is just a couple hour walk away from the revolutionary base. We'll be there in the morning if all goes according to pn. For now Mark sleeps in our inn with us.

We wake up and go down to where we can get carriage rides. The ride can fit eight people including the person driving it. The only problem is we can't bring our cart. But we can just get another one. Besides we won't be doing much traveling from now on. We get out onto the road. It's a much shorter ride than it is a walk. It'll be just under a day which is a third of our original time. We will be riding at night which could be dangerous. The driver assures us we'll be safe but I have a bad feeling.

Around four hours in I notice a rge castle in the distance. I've seen it before but far into the distance. It wasn't much of a sight from Ann's vilge. But it's much cooler when we're this close. It sits on top a rge mountain. We're gonna need to get up this mountain to kill the king. We just have no idea how to get up there. It's far too steep to climb and far too high for magic. Well at least the magic we know. God level magic is the only thing powerful enough to reach it. But nobody has learned that level of magic in decades. The st human to do it was the first hero and he was a complete anomaly. If I remember correctly his magic could take out a whole continent. But I don't remember all the details about it. So I just ask Ann if she knows much.

"Ann, you know a lot about the history of heroes right?" I ask.

'Yeah, you got a question?" Ann says.

"The first hero was the st person to learn god level magic. But what exactly could he do with it?"

Ann tells me about some of his spells. One time when he wasn't even twenty he destroyed a whole forest. The thing is he didn't even hit the forest. He used an earth type spell on somebody who was flying hundreds of feet in the sky. The bst shredded the ground and created a rge crater. Another time when he was fighting a god he moved entire mountains. That spell was much like Reed's tree spell but it work with the ground. Then the spell I was thinking about earlier was a giant fire ball. He and his allies flew over Hell on a dragon. He used the spell and it destroyed the entire continent. The spell used so much mana he grew sick and died ter on. Even though he lived here for many years he only used three god level spells.

"Although he did use a lot of un known spells." Ann says, "Some people do suspect that they were god level spells that he made himself."

"Thanks, that gave me a good bit more context." I say.

We finally pass the border. The giant territory has a rge wall separating it from the rest of the world. This is because humans deemed them too dangerous to let free. We have to go through border patrol to reach the other side. I do remember how I saw giants at that one city we were at. We also fought one but that one seemed a lot more savage than the others. Even giants around here are talking to people and acting just like people. The one we fought was naked while these giants are fully clothed. I look at Ann with a questioning look. She sighs clearly understanding what I want to ask.

"The giant we fought had a disease. It used to affect most of the giant popution but it settled after a hero found the cure to the disease." She says.

"What was the cure?" Reed asks.

"It was... killing them. They killed majority of the sick ones and left the normal giants." She tells us.

We pass through the border. Things in the giant territory are way different from things around the orc territory. It's green and alive. A vilge is very close by. It's filled with all kinds of different races. Mostly human and giant. We skip past the first few vilges. By the time we reach our actual destination night had already past. We need some rest, nobody had slept st night. First thing, blow more money on one night in an inn. Then we go back to walking.

We stay in the inn all day. This inn has probably the most comfortable beds since I was at Louis's. I sleep good and end up sleeping too te. We need to head out right as I wake up if we want to make it to the revolutionaries today.

The road is also a lot better. The orc territory was hilly and tiring. Now it's just a straight path. It's also the first time we haven't been surrounded by purely forests. The nd is clear and green. Every field has miles of flowers. The walk is soothing. We reach our next stop before our actual destination. We only stop here for food and head out. We buy some monster meat and cheap fruits. We can eat this meat raw so it's good for traveling. We've mostly been eating the same foods our whole trip and this time is no different.

We get back onto the road. It's only an hour and a half before we get there. We finally get to rest. Things may be looking up. Not to mention we have six people in our group now. We've grown strong if I'm being honest.

We finally get to our destination. It's a small town. Ann knows exactly where the base is. We walk into a bar named Bud's tavern. We walk up to the man at the bar. Ann says something to him but I can't hear what it is.

"Follow me." The man at the bar says.

We follow him to the back. He pushes back a book shelf with stair behind it. We walk down them into a room with three men standing around a table. The bartender walks back up stairs and pushes the book shelf into pce. The three men stare at us.

"Who're you?" One of them asks.

"My name is Ann." Ann tells them, "I've been talking to one of you through letter for awhile."

  The men stare at us.

"None of us have been sending letters to anybody." Another one of them says.

"They said their name was Bud." She says.

"Bud hasn't been here in weeks."

"Was Bud a tall bald man?" I ask.

The three men look at each other. The then turn to me.

  "Yes, he is."

"He uh... Bud died a few days ago." I say.
