Chapter 22 – Orthodox Magic Meditation Technique(Antia’s Version)

During dinner, Primanus's son-in-w, Apollox, made a ridiculous request.

"I want to become a doctor."

"WHAT?!" Primanus was so shocked that she dropped his cup.

The seasoned veteran who fought for over two-thirds of his life for the safety and glory of the New Roman Empire looked bnkly at his average-looking but serious son-in-w.

"Lad, repeat what you just said? I think I heard wrong." Primanus said to confirm.

"I said, I want to become a doctor," Apollox said with the same serious look.

"I sent you to learn history for two weeks, and you want to become a doctor? A goddamn doctor, of all things?! You?! A gifted military genius that the empire has rarely seen in a century, wants to become a FUCKING DOCTOR?!"

However, Primanus, being as old and experienced as he is, didn't immediately fre up. He knew that this son-in-w of his didn't learn things at random. In fact, no matter what he did, he would inevitably excel in it. He even heard from his daughter that Apollox was going to become a Novice Magician in the next few weeks, which was arguably as much of an achievement as becoming an Extraordinary Warrior in merely a year and a half, especially considering that he only studied two hours every day for less than five months.

In Primanus's opinion, Apollox was the best textbook example of a rising legendary general, comparable to the best generals in the long history of New Rome.

And now, this divine-level talent wants to become a fucking doctor?! While he respected doctors, making Apollox a doctor... was beneath him. He didn't doubt that Apollox could become a doctor. Perhaps, within a year, he could surpass the chief doctor of the 17th legion. But this didn't change the fact that it was a sin-worthy misuse of a talent.

But on the other hand, he trusted Apollox's judgement, and he needed to at least respect his wishes. Hence, with all the patience that he could muster, he asked.

  "Why?"

"Failing to learn from historical mistakes leads to their repetition," Apollox said with a serious look.

Primanus looked stunned for a moment before nodding.

"Insightful. That was why I sent you to learn history. But this doesn't expin why you want to become a doctor."

Primanus sent Apollox to learn history for the purpose of learning military tactics and coping with special situations, not to become a doctor. He didn't even know why Apollox had this sudden, crazy idea.

But Apollox's answer was even more surprising than he imagined.

"I am afraid of the pgue."

  "Hah?" Primanus blinked.

  "Pgue?" Primanus dumbly uttered.

  Apollox solemnly nodded.

"Yes. From what I read, marching armies, especially those who march to foreign nds, often return with a pgue that is foreign to them. Our legion is marching across half the empire to foreign nds... When they return, there is a high chance they will bring back a pgue. And some diseases can resist Fighting Spirit and Magic. While I might reach the Epic Warrior Realm and survive such a pgue, what about Antia, my future children, my fellow soldiers, and their families? What would happen if this puts holes in my legion, creating gaps for the northern barbarian and steppe nomads to abuse? Wouldn't that trigger a rge-scale war once they see our weakness?"1Lol, the guy accidentally predicted the Marcomannic Wars after two weeks of reading history.

Suddenly, all of Primanus's misgivings were swept away. As a seasoned logistical commander, he also knew that the greatest killer in the army wasn't by an enemy's sword. The fate of the 25th legion was the exception, not the norm. In his long career, many of his soldiers perished from unreted, perhaps even embarrassing reasons.

However, he still neglected the pgue aspect. After all, there were too few historic instances of such events, and few ways to counter them. Most of the common ways to deal with it were to isote or even abandon the diseased soldiers. But there was no miracle cure. While healing magic existed, it was rare, and some diseases could indeed resist Fighting Spirit and Magic, ciming the lives of famous people.

He wasn't afraid of dying, and his wife was also not afraid. They were old and close to death, after all. But what about his daughter?

Primanus looked to Antia, and he saw, for the first time in a very long time, that this stoic adopted daughter of his was visibly surprised and afraid. He knew that this stemmed from the realization that the safety of her house wasn't as safe as she thought.

And then, he imagined it. What would happen when his legion returned, sick and pgued, still recovering from war casualties?

"Those hungry wolves would bite... and hard. I am afraid that it would really escate to an all-out war that would st for over a decade. There might be even a chance that this pgue could even spread across the whole empire, ciming the lives of millions, weakening us to the point of slow decay and colpse."2And this guy predicted the fall of the Roman Empire. Neat.

And then, he looked at his son-in-w again, this multi-talented, god-gifted genius who arrived as his army by pure chance. This soldier of the most ordinary background distinguished himself to the point that he was noticed, and eventually betrothed him to his daughter and adopted him. And then, to nurture him, he even sent him to learn history, which led to this result in a mere two weeks.

While Primanus didn't think of himself as the religious or superstitious type, he wasn't completely unreligious. At least, he paid attention to such obvious omens. Hence, a wild thought crossed his mind.

A small part of him believed that Apollox could actually do it... he could prevent or even cure a future pgue. He could save millions of lives and the future of the empire.

"Perhaps... this is divine intervention?" Primanus thought.

He didn't realize he had reached close to the truth. Indeed, this was divine intervention... but not from his gods, and not intentionally.

Not knowing this, Primanus made a decision.

"Okay. As Camp Prefect, I will assign you to learn under the chief doctor of the legion as a deputy. You have three months. During these three months, you are exempt from morning and afternoon training. However, you will continue early morning exercises and evening magic studies. Is that clear?" Primanus gave the order.

Apollox immediately stood up and saluted.

  "Yes, Sir! Thank you, Sir!"

However, what nobody noticed was that Antia's eyes toward Apollox greatly softened.

"He cares about me this much..."

  .

After dinner, I took the final test over the 18th scroll. Antia evaluated my answers on the spot, and after confirming everything was perfect, she looked at me with appreciative eyes.

"Excellent. You surpassed my expectations of you, my fiancé." Antia said. Perhaps it was my imagination, but there was a hint of warmth in her usually cold voice.

"It is because I have an excellent teacher." I honestly replied.

If not for Antia, it would have taken me several years. Thanks to her, studying was many times faster. After four months, I was already at lvl 120 Pre-Magic Student, surpassing the required lvl 100 of Pre-Magic Student. Meanwhile, Magic Theory was at a whopping lvl 270. I guessed that the base difficulty of Pre-Magic Student was comparable to the Legionary css.

I then saw my blonde, blue-eyed, and tall fiancée take the two scrolls she lent me, carefully store them in a shelf, and bring back a closed wooden case.

Pcing it on the table, she opened the case, revealing two thin leather scrolls of an obviously higher quality than before.

"This is the Orthodox Magic Meditation Method, along with my written insights and modifications on the technique, which I finished just several months ago. This technique can allow you to form a Magic Core in your brain, and unlike Warrior Breathing Techniques, you can grow your magical realm without a limit. But at the same time, merely raising your Magical Realm only increases magical recovery and reserves, and not mastery over spells. That is to say, if you merely train your magical reserves but don't learn new spells and magic theory, you would only have the strength of a lowly Magic Novice... just that you can cast more spells. However, merely raising magic theory wouldn't enable you to cast spells beyond what your reserves are capable of supporting." Antia expined.

"In other words, I need to practice both?" I asked to confirm.

  Antia nodded.

"Yes. Additionally, you can only practice for a limited time each day, around an hour. Otherwise, you will overstrain your mind, causing damage to your foundation. In this sense, it is simir to Warrior Breathing exercises." Antia expined.

"I can practice both techniques every day, right?" I inquired.

  Antia nodded.

"Yes. There is no contradiction between them. Warrior Breathing Techniques focus on circuting energy within your bloodstream and energy paths, centered around the heart. Meanwhile, Magic Meditation focuses on forming the Magic Core and tempering magic circuits within the mind."

  "I see..." I muttered.

And then, I thought of something.

"Wait, now that I think about it, I never see you practice Warrior Breathing Techniques in the morning. Why? Aren't you already a General Warrior?" I curiously asked.

"I casually trained a bit in the Legionary Breathing Technique when I turned 14, but only because my father forced me to... But I stopped when I became a Novice Magician because I felt that practicing Warrior Breathing Techniques was a waste of my time." Antia casually said.

Hearing this, I turned silent for a moment.

"Did you use any special medicine or resources to train or receive guidance?" I cautiously asked.

"No, I merely exercised in the early morning, and I didn't have any guidance or resources. During the rest of the day, I studied. If not for my father forcing me, I wouldn't even bother practicing warrior techniques during those four months." Antia replied with her usual monotone voice.

  And that confirmed it.

"My fiancée is also a warrior-type monstrous talent. She merely cks interest."

In merely four months, without having great fitness, she reached the General Warrior realm. If she put a bit of effort, she would likely already be an Elite Warrior.

"Would you like to continue Warrior Training? It would make you healthier." I tried convincing her.

  However, Antia shook her head.

"I prefer Magic Training. Magic Training also has a simir effect."

"Drats... Wait. Now that I think about it..." I suddenly remembered something.

  So I checked the simution.

  Realm Multiplier: 64x

Due to the simution already reaching the Epic Realm, the multiplier doubled again, reaching a whopping 64 times. And this gave me an idea on how to convince her.

"You know, I found that increasing my Warrior Realm greatly increased the speed of learning things. If your Warrior Realm increased, wouldn't you study magic faster?" I tried reasoning with her.

Sure enough, after I said that, Anita, the magic devotee, suddenly perked up, grabbing my shoulders.

"Really? You are not lying to me, right?" She said with surprising enthusiasm, eyes wide.

I felt her breath on me, and she smelled surprisingly fresh and clean, like the morning dew.

  "So close..." I thought.

"Y-Yes... I discovered it after several breakthroughs. The sharpness of my mind seemingly doubled each time, making this twice as easy to learn." I stammered.

Perhaps others didn't realize it as much, but I certainly did.

"Perhaps Antia's genius partially came from her early advancement in warrior realms, so she learned things much faster? Of course, she is undoubtedly also a genius in her own right." I thought.

Seemingly without shame, Antia let go of me and returned to her seat in thought.

"Okay, I suppose I can dedicate a bit of time in the morning..." Antia murmured, nodding to herself.

"Well, at least I managed to convince her..." I thought.

After saying goodbye, I returned to my room and began studying the two scrolls. And after studying them both, I sighed in appreciation.

"Really. This woman is the real monster. If she were born in one of those patrician families, her achievements would be even higher than now..."

The changes and adjustments she made to the Magic Meditation Technique were genius. Hundreds of years ago, she might have been the type of god-gifted genius who invented this technique in the first pce.

And indeed, two new entries appeared in the system's ability panel.

  Orthodox Magic Meditation Technique(Antia's Version):

The orthodox Magic Meditation Technique modified by Antia. Through meditating, you can create magic channels within the mind, forming a neural magic nucleus within the center of the brain. With it, one can command the magical energies around them, forming magic. Due to the nature of magic, increasing the realm only improves one's magical pool and recovery, but not the ability to use higher-level magic. Using this, one can, in theory, reach up to the peak of the 9th magic realm.

Due to Antia's ingenious modifications, all lvl requirements are halved.

  Realm Progression: 1st(lvl 1-24), 2nd(lvl 25-99), 3rd(lvl 100-249), 4th(lvl 250-399), 5th(lvl 400-599), 6th(lvl 600-799), 7th(lvl 800-999), 8th(lvl 1,000-1,249), 9th(lvl 1,250-1,499)

Hint 1: Progressing beyond lvl 1,499 can only help prestige.Hint 2: This technique can reach the limit of mortals, and progressing beyond this point requires beyond-mortal means...Hint 3: Antia is the luckiest thing that happened to you. (Aside from the system, of course...)

  Tempered Magic Circuits:

Through tougher and more flexible magic circuits, one can practice magic faster and use more powerful magic.

Bonus to Magic Csses and abilities.

When I looked at the level requirements, my eyes almost bulged out of their sockets.

"Isn't this an entire realm of difficulty above Warrior Training?! Holy crap! Thank the gods I have Antia, or this would be many times more difficult!"

And then, when I saw the 3rd hint, I couldn't help but nod.

"Yeah, she is really the luckiest thing that happened to me... aside from meeting that god, of course. But you are really cheeky, system, taking credit for yourself..."

Of course, the system didn't respond to that.

"Oh, well. I'll start training now." And with that, I started meditating.

  .

  .

  .

In her study, Antia was reading a scroll when suddenly, she realized something and blushed slightly.

"Oops... I got too excited and grabbed him at such a close distance... I hope he didn't notice."

After muttering this, she continued her studying, but was a hint slower than usual.
