Chapter I: “Dark Army”
Episode VI: “Find Them! Reito Tracks Down the Portal!”
“There’s one!” Reito said.
The three of them finally located a portal after several hours.
“Then let’s go check it out right now!” Kyoto said.
“What? Leo said to wait for him to meet up with us.”
“We could wait… but by then they might escape. And think of all the people that could die or be hurt while we wait!”
“… fine… man, you’re insufferable. I’ll make a portal right now, so get ready.”
“Yeah!”
[One hour later]
Reito opened a portal to a far-northern island. Kyoto and Reito slipped through under the cover of night, crouching along a dirt trail in the forest.
“Alright, we’re here. So, what’s the plan?” Reito whispered.
“Let’s find some monsters to go beat up.” Kyoto stood.
“Hey—what are you doing!?” Reito hissed.
“I’m going to fight, of course. This looks like one of their camps, so I’ll go introduce myself.”
Reito sighed, but he wasn’t surprised.
“Have fun, I guess. I’m going to see if I can actually learn something about these guys,” Reito muttered as he crept away.
“Well, it’s time to get started!” Kyoto said as he did some light stretching. “So, who’s first?”
He glanced around, the dim light of a campfire catching his eye through the darkness.
“I guess I’ll see what’s over here.”

[A few minutes later]
“Hey! Girl! Come over here and bring my meal!” A large man at the campfire said.
“Y-yes sir!” A petite girl ran over to bring him food.
“It’s about time, dammit.” He snatched it from her. He raised his hand to hit her.
“Eep!” She flinched.
“Woah, woah, woah. What the hell are you doing, buddy?” Kyoto Aether-Skipped to the campfire and caught his hand before he could hit her.
“What the fuck?! Who are you, brat!?” He jumped up and away from the campfire, dropping the food.
Kyoto put his hand up to block the girl behind him. “Me? I’m Kyoto Lyte, obviously.” He turned his head to face the girl. “You should run,” he murmured.
“Don’t you dare move, girl!”
She looked at Kyoto with a frightened look, hesitant to disobey.
Kyoto smiled at her with a soft face. “It’s alright. Get out of here, I’ll deal with this guy. I’ll find you later, so just go hide in a bush somewhere, okay?”
“Hm.” She nodded and ran into the forest.
“You bastard. You’re going to regret messing with me! I’ll kill you for that!”
“Right… so who are you again?”
“Grr… I’ll have you know I’m the First Captain of Cataline’s Army! I’m sure you’ve heard of the attacks by monsters happening all over the world! That’s us! You picked the wrong crew to cross, boy!”
“Is that right? You’re the first? This is great… I can beat you, and hopefully that’ll bring out your leader.”
“What!? Are you insane!? Bring me down!?”
“Yeah… it seems simple enough.”
“You bastard… I’ll show you! You’re just a weak little brat!”
“Let me show you something… this is something not even my father can do.”
“What…?”
“Huhhhhh!” Kyoto started powering up, shaking the island with his transformation.
Kyoto’s aura ignited; Spirit Resonance flared—creamy white light with orange sparks, his eyes turning white as his hair lifted. The pressure climbed as he pushed into Spirit Ascension, a thicker flame-sheath roaring off his frame.
He didn’t stop.
“HAAAA!”
The world tightened as he broke through to Spirit Transcendence—white light pouring from his eyes, the night bending around him. He crossed his arms and threw them wide; a shockwave tore through the trees and snuffed the fire, leaving only his fierce glow. His hair glowed white as it swayed in his dense aura.
“Hmph—even with all the theatrics, you’re still weak,” the First boasted.
“Oh, we’re just getting started. Aegis Volta: Lightning Energy Cloak—Tier Three!”
A giant surge of lightning energy burst out from Kyoto, but before the First could process that, Kyoto was already blitzing him. Kyoto easily landed hits on him, speeding around his body after each hit.
I have to be careful with that girl around here somewhere. “Lightning Combination!”
He knocked the First into the air with a swift series of lightning-charged blows.

“Now—Lightning Star Destroyer!”
He launched a big cyan beam of lightning-based aether straight above.
Unfortunately, that brief delay was all the First needed to brace himself.
“URGH!”
His muscles swelled as the doping serum flooded through his body. He caught the blast with one hand.
“Dark Fist!” With his other hand, he deflected the blast into the ocean, creating a large wave. Then he shouted, “It’s my turn!”
He vanished with an Aether-Skip.
What!? Kyoto’s eyes tracked side-to-side, searching for his opponent.
The First caught Kyoto off guard in a blitz, mimicking his movements by Aether-Skipping after every blow.
He’s agile for someone so big! “Static Shock!”
His discharge stunned the First in place, allowing Kyoto to create some distance.
I’m going to have to use something even stronger! “Draconic Hymn of Thunder: Trinity of The Tempest—Triple Lightning Dragon Strike!”
His dragons sprouted from close range, ready to bite down on the First with their sharp energy.
“Ergh!”
Despite the fangs of lightning clawing into his skin, the First tanked the art then prepared to counterattack, raising a hand as black aether swirled around it.
“Dark Saber!”
His laser beam shot Kyoto straight through the chest.
“AHH!” Kyoto cried out, clutching his wound as blood gushed out.
Luckily, the beam missed his vital organs.
“How fortunate for me, and unlucky for you. I can’t have you getting an easy death now.”
“You… bastard…” Kyoto groaned.
“I’m gonna have fun picking you apart piece by piece!”
