Lyte of Utopia
Arc III: “Return of Darkness”
Chapter I: “Dark Army”
Episode V: “Earth’s Destruction”
A scream cut out of the city—
“HELLLP!”
“Hurry, let’s go check that out!” Leo barked, kicking into the air toward the city.
“Right!” Kyoto and Reito streaked in behind him.
They dropped to the street—Zane kneeling over Lian’s body.
“Lian! What happened?” Leo asked.
“H-he’s dead…” Zane choked between sobs. “Lian is… dead!”
“Shit…”
Kyoto and Reito could only watch from behind with grim faces.
“Who did this?” Reito asked.
“The Third Captain… of Cataline’s army.”
“Cataline? Who is that?” Kyoto asked.
“She’s… Apocalypse’s wife.”
“W-what!?” Reito stiffened.
“Relax—she’s not your grandmother. She’s Apocalypse’s first wife, a Dystopian, not a Kaelithian.”
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
“I see…” he was still flustered.
Kyoto cleared his throat, drawing their attention.
“I have something important to say. I don’t know if Rayon told you guys yet, but the headmaster was killed.”
“Dammit…” Zane slammed his fist to the ground. “That means the barrier can’t be restored.”
“We might have bigger problems on our hands,” Leo said. “If Apocalypse’s army is really here… I’ve heard rumors about their immortality…”
“Immortality, huh… now that I think about it, the Third Captain mentioned a Dark Heart. I don’t know what that is, but he said it was a shame Apocalypse was killed before they could retrieve it.”
“The Dark Heart… I don’t like the sound of that,” Leo said.
“So, what should we do right now?” Kyoto asked. “We have to stop them, don’t we? How will we find them if they can use portals?”
“Reito, you can use portals as well, correct?” Leo asked.
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“Then can you track them? You can recognize their energy signatures, right?”
“Well… I can recognize them, but not if I don’t know where to look. If I can home in on specific energy sources, I can confirm whether it’s a portal.”
“Alright, then we just have to find a way to do that.”
“Damn it! Lian would have been able to help you isolate energy signals… but now…”
Leo put his hand on Zane’s shoulder. “It’s alright. Let’s find a place to bury him and give him a proper send-off.”
“R-right…”
“Hey, wait. I think I might know someone who could help us,” Kyoto said.
“Really? Who?” Leo asked.
“A family friend. She lives in my hometown. The only issue is that Akaza and Kazuma would know what we’re up to. I’d rather not get them involved…”
“That’s alright. They can handle themselves well.” Leo said. “Alright—how about you two head to New Woodberry for this help, while Zane and I take care of Lian. We’ll find Rayon and then meet up with you.”
“Right!” Kyoto and Reito both flew off at high speeds.
[Various islands around the world]
The following broadcast was displayed:
“This just in, folks, there have been sightings of dark-colored individuals running around to different islands and cities and killing people! Make sure to stay in your homes and lock your doors! Even the UFA couldn’t stop them! IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD!!!”
“Damn, the news is going to make people panic if they announce it like that!” Kyoto said.
“It doesn’t matter. We’ll beat them soon enough.” Reito said.
The two of them left the Lyte residence and walked into another home nearby.
“Hey, Ms. Fevee! Are you home?” Kyoto knocked on the door.
“Yes?” She answered, opening the door. “Oh, Kyoto! How are you?” She smiled and hugged him.
“I’m fine, thanks. How have you been?”
“I’m great! Thanks for asking. Who’s your friend here?”
“Oh, right—this is Reito. He’s Uncle Rikito’s son.
“Wow, I heard he had a baby, but I never got to meet them since they live so far away! It’s great to finally meet you!” She walked over to hug him, but he declined.
“Likewise, but we’re here on business.”
“Oh, o-okay.” She lost her cheerfulness. “Well then, how can I help you?”
“We need some help trying to find someone. I’m sure you’ve seen the news, so you know about them.”
“Those dark monsters running around? I’m not sure if I’ll be able to locate all of them…”
“Don’t worry, we just need your help to find their portals,” Reito said. “They’re hitting islands fast, then vanishing through portals. If you can pin the largest energy signatures, I can tell which are portals—and where their main hideout might be.”
“Alright, but first…” she said, inviting them inside, “let’s have some tea!”
