Chapter I: “Dark Army”
Episode III: “The New World’s Strongest!”
“HA!”
The Fourth drove his knee up under Kyoto’s guard; bone rang.
“Argh!”
Kyoto ate the strike.
He’s too fast!
The Fourth blurred in, peppering Kyoto with body shots and elbows.
I have to do something!
“Static Shock!”
Ozone snapped; joints seized. Kyoto kicked back across the sky.
If Rayon is getting help, then I must stall long enough for them to get here!
“Triple Lightning Dragon Strike!”
He vaulted high, weaving threads of lightning into three cyan wyrms, then hurled them down at the Fourth.
“That attack wasn’t half bad,” the Fourth said, licking his lips, “that actually hurt. Now, let me return the favor—Superior Dark Saber!”
A black beam cleaved the sky in two.
I’ll die if that hits me!
Kyoto dipped under the blast; heat singed his hair tips.
“Lightning Projections!”
Fourteen crackling doubles fanned out around him.
“Hmph, trying to stall? Well, that won’t work on me! Multi-Shot Saber!”
Needle-sabers shredded the doubles one by one.

Dammit, he’s shredding through my numbers! I need to come up with something better, and fast!
“Lightning… Star Destroyer!”
He fired a beam at the Fourth.
“That’s too light!”
He caught the stream bare-handed; it shoved back, but he bled off its momentum.
“HA!”
He pulsed aether through his palms, and the beam detonated before him.
This guy is reckless—he just took damage for no reason... alright, let’s focus. I still have three clones left. We’ll rush him!
The four converged from different vectors.
The Fourth parried the first two strikes that came at his sides, then pierced the third clone in front of him with a dark laser.
But Kyoto hit from behind, popping him skyward so the other two could follow.
“Lightning Combination!”
The two clones hammered him between forked strikes while Kyoto bolted overhead.
“One more time! Triple Lightning Dragon Strike!”
The blast hit clean; the clones dissolved to raw current, grasping him in place.
Kyoto flew above the smoke clouds from his attack. He was panting heavily, his flow running dry.
“Hahaha, you’re really strong!”
The Fourth hovered below, barely scorched.
Shit!
“Now you’re dead! Superior Dark Saber!”
It’s too close! I can’t dodge it!
Suddenly, a black portal appeared in front of Kyoto and warped the beam away.
What!? Kyoto and the Fourth both flinched, their mouths left agape.
Then someone else blitzed the Fourth while his guard was down.
“Sixth Threshold: Oblivion!”
A dark figure landed strong, swift hits on the Fourth, knocking him back far away.
Another dark portal peeled open beneath the Fourth, feeding his own attack back into him.
“AHH!”
The first rescuer stepped from a portal at Kyoto’s side—creamy-white aether swirled, a white nimbus hugged his frame, and his eyes lit violet.
“Reito! You’re here! And you too, Master Leo!”
“Hey, Kyoto. You did well to last this long. Rayon found us while we were on our way and pointed us in the right direction. Lian and Zane should be nearby as well.”
“Sweet!”
“Hmph, you’re a fool for losing to a guy this weak,” Reito said.
“Shut up, you bastard. I’m already tired from my previous fight! If I were fresh, I could beat this guy in my sleep!”
All this talking is aggravating me… the Fourth thought, gripping his fists. His jaw tightened. I know who these two are. Leo, one of the last members of the Caliekian race. He trained under Akira Lyte for years. And the other one… he can use Dystopian portals, so he must be the son of that man—Rikito!
The Fourth smiled.
If I can beat Akira’s precious son and student, as well as capture the chosen one’s son, my master will be very pleased!
He licked his lips deviously.
“I don’t like that look on your face,” Leo said. “You’d better not be getting any ideas. Your chances of beating me were already low, but with these two behind me, they’re virtually zero. Now, let me show you why Akira can confidently leave the Earth in my hands!”
Leo got into his stance.
“Seventh Threshold: Providence!”
Midnight tones lifted, revealing white sigil-lines that crawled across his skin. A grand halo appeared behind Leo’s head, and his aura shone like that of an angel’s.
What is that!? The Fourth worried.
Before he could react, Leo blitzed him.
“Dragon Flash!” Leo Aether-Skipped—space blinked, and suddenly he was there. “Holy Star Destroyer!”
A point-blank white beam bloomed, vaporizing the Fourth’s entire body.
“Alright,” he exhaled, returning to his natural state. “Sheesh, that uses a lot of aether!” Leo laughed.
“I-Incredible,” Kyoto muttered. “It’s rare that we even get to see you use the Sixth Threshold!”
“Haha, yeah, I normally don’t need it. But I decided to get a little fancy since that guy was messing with my pupil.”
Leo’s face hardened.
“But anyway, we can chat later. For now, let’s go deal with these other intruders.”
“Right!” Kyoto and Reito yelled.
At that instant, a large portal appeared, covering the ground of the island and the water around it. All of the intruders sank into the portal and disappeared at once.
“What the hell!? Reito, what did you do!?” Kyoto asked.
“It wasn’t me! I can’t make a portal that big!”
“HELLLP!” someone shouted from the campus—
