Arc III - Chapter III - Episode VIII: "Showdown! Akira vs. Rikito!"

  Lyte of Utopia

  Arc III: “Return of Darkness”

Chapter III: “Fading Darkness / Tales Untold”

Episode VIII: “Showdown! Akira vs Rikito!”

Akira used Dragon Shift to teleport to where he detected Lunario’s location.

This is…? “Get out here, Lunario, you bastard!” he yelled.

Rikito flew out of the castle through the hole in the roof.

  “Hmph.” Rikito sneered.

“It seems Helios has found us already…” Lunario said inside Rikito’s mind.

Lunario’s voice didn’t echo through the air—it resonated through Rikito’s Flow, calm as moonlight in still water.

So, Akira has become the host of this ‘Helios’. Rikito smirked. I suppose this is a good chance for me to put him in his place! “What’s wrong, Akira? You seem a bit excited. Oh, I know… It’s been a while since we last fought. You must be itching for me to beat you again.”

“As if. You sure you could beat me as I am now? I’m not the same kid I was all those years ago, Rikito.”

“Yeah—Lunario’s in there,” Helios told Akira. “Its resonance is unmistakable.” This smug bastard became Lunario’s host.

Rikito is a host for a spirit now, eh? “Now there won’t be any excuses for when I beat you!” Akira said as he powered up, unleashing a ferocious red and orange aura as fiery as the sun.

“You’ll regret those words once I’ve put you in your place!” Rikito’s aura also surged, with a silver and azure glow.

The two of them clashed, causing a massive shockwave that pulsated throughout the island and into the ocean.

They zipped around in the air so fast that it set clouds ablaze and parted the ocean.

“Alright, Akira! Let’s do this!” Helios said to him.

  “Yeah!”

Akira transformed into his Soul Resonance: Divine Utopic Spirit Resonance.

Golden markings appeared along his upper body like tattoos, and his eyes and hair were a deep golden color. The markings along his upper body weren’t ink—they were vows, burning brighter the more his Flow rose.

His aura was a beautiful golden yellow with a thick whitish coat of energy and sparkles surrounding his body.

“Wow, not bad! You’re stronger than I thought, Akira!”

“You ain’t seen nuthin yet, Helios!” Akira gained a golden yellow eyeshadow as his irises turned black with a golden star in their center. “This is the True power of the God of Utopia!”

“A formidable foe… how will you handle this, I wonder. Rikito?” Lunario whispered to him.

“Hmph, just sit back and watch. Akira isn’t the only one who can use that kind of power. Soul Resonance: Divine Demonic Spirit Resonance!”

His black hair flared up, turning dark as midnight with purple highlights. His aura was as cold as a dark, stormy night. It mirrored Akira’s power, but instead, it radiated black and purple energy.

  “True Demon Force.”

A purple eyeshadow appeared on Rikito’s face, and a black ring appeared around the center of his solid purple irises.

“I wasn’t aware that mortals possessed such strength in this era…” Lunario said.

“Let’s take this up there,” Akira said, pointing at the sky.

The two of them swiftly ascended into the outer layers of Earth’s atmosphere. They hovered in a standoff, both of them waiting for the other to make a move.

  Akira twitched—

  Rikito Aether-Skipped in response.

“You’ll have to be faster than that—Dragon Flash!”

Akira intercepted Rikito’s movements. Rikito barely managed to block Akira’s punch with his hands, then spun around to kick him. Akira leaned back to dodge the kick, then flipped backwards while firing an aether blast from each of his hands. Rikito deflected both blasts as he dashed towards Akira.

“Utopic Edict: Deus Fracture: God Breaker!” Akira thrusted his fist forward—light-blue aether surging off it.

“Implode…” Rikito whispered, causing Akira’s fist to explode before he could land the attack. Then he wisped around Akira and fired his own attack. “Oblivion Break: Black Psalm of Desolation: Dark Abyssal Cannon!”

Akira cloaked his back in aether, tanking the beam. “Blessed Kiss: Infinite Regenerations!”

Akira rerouted Flow—bone and tissue stitching back in a blink.

It wasn’t free. The repair burned through his reserves like kindling.

Then, he charged up another attack.

“Celestial Rend: Golden Draconic Verse of Aureate Starfall: Utopic Stardust Dragon Destroyer!”

The dragon formed by the astral beam of an attack chomped down on Rikito as he was hit by the wave of aether.

  “Argh,”

“Mercy of the Argent Veil: Moon Drip.” Lunario’s voice carried outward this time—calm, deliberate— allowing Akira and Helios to hear him.

A single drop of purple, luminescent lunar aether fell like dew—then rewound damage instead of healing it.

“What the hell? Hey, Helios, why didn’t you heal me!?”

“Uh… I don’t have an ability exactly like that, so I can’t really heal you. Sorry!”

“Man, that’s lame!” Rikito didn’t even have to expend his own aether to heal there!

“Mantle of the Black Abyss: Abyssal Lightning Cloak!”

Rikito cloaked himself in his black, purple, and red lightning, then proceeded to blitz Akira.

Unable to defend himself, Akira received numerous direct hits.

Damn, I have to do something!

“March of Devastation: Abyssal Ruination…” Rikito whispered as he finished his combo on Akira.

Infuscate! His skin quickly became as black as midnight. “Psalm of the Lightless Hour: Last Rites: Midnight Ruination Cannon!!”

He fired a massive beam at Akira.

D-damn! “Draconic Kata Verse: Amorphous Chant: Dragon Force!”

Akira released aether from every pore of his body, attempting to repel the beam.

That bought him a split second to teleport away from the attack. He backed away, wiping the sweat from his face.

“This bastard…” He’s fast… and I hate to admit it, but Rikito is stronger than me right now! Unless…

Akira got excited by the idea that came into his head.

Rikito’s Infuscate wore off, and his skin turned back to normal. He started breathing heavily as Lunario began talking to him.

“That was quite the display of techniques you put on there. But are you sure you’ll be able to keep fighting at such a level? From what I can tell, our opponents still have a tremendous pool of aether to draw from. On the other hand, those last two techniques you used drained your aether to less than half. I won’t be able to use Moon Drip for a while, so when it comes to recovery, you’re on your own.”

“Shut up…” Rikito said internally to Lunario. He was still fighting for his breath. “Akira won’t be able to match my power output or my speed. I’ll unleash all my strength and quickly overpower him.”

“I see. Then I wish you luck, seeing as the result of my battle lies in your hands.”

“What’s the matter, Rikito? You seem a bit strung out over there,” Akira teased.

“Shut up, you fool. Mind your own business.”

Alright Helios, Spir—uh… Utopia, here’s the plan: I’ll create a couple of Astral Clones to divert his attention. Then I’ll temporarily seal his techniques to create an opening. That’s when I need you, Spir—Utopia, to channel your aether into one of my clones so it can launch a big attack.

“What will you do during that?” The Spirit of Utopia asked.

“Yeah, it seems like you’re trying to distract him from something.”

Hehehe, while he’s distracted, I’m going to use that time to use Star Creator!

  “Star Creator?” Helios asked.

Yeah, just wait until you see this! You’re gonna be shocked! Akira punched his fists together. “Alright, let’s do it!”

  What’s he planning? Rikito wondered.

Akira opened up his arms and created two orbs of energy, one in each hand. The orbs sprouted out, forming two clones.

Astral Clones? What’s he planning to do with a weak technique like that? If he wanted to overwhelm me with numbers, he could make a dozen more clones with decent Yield levels…

Both clones dashed out from Akira’s sides and spread out. They circled Rikito.

They’ve surrounded me. Is he planning to use his Dragon Festival?

“Ha!” Akira and both his clones launched a volley of numerous aether blasts at Rikito.

Rikito flew up higher into the atmosphere, approaching the vacuum of space. I can’t get too high…

“Actually, you’ll be fine. As long as you remain as my host, I can protect you from the vacuum of space,” Lunario said.

  “Hmm… that’s good to know.”

Rikito effortlessly dodged and deflected all the aether blasts. While he was busy avoiding them, one of the clones chased him to a higher altitude.

“Draconic Kata Verse: Wyrm Liturgy: Dragon Festival!”

  So that was his plan.

With his clones surrounding Rikito once again, the three of them acted as anchors for the array that was formed.

“Utopic, Stardust Dragon Breaker!!” one of the clones yelled as it launched an attack from Rikito’s blind spot.

  “Dammit!” Perfect Demon Form.

A black mark appeared on Rikito’s face as he transformed, then it turned white as he used Infuscate.

I barely managed to block that in time! Rikito thought as his arms were seared by the beam.

Rikito’s overwhelming Yield destabilized the array.

“Damn, he’s too strong now!” One of the clones said.

Rikito quickly blitzed the clones, destroying them both in one hit and causing them to dissipate.

“What’s next?” Rikito said, searching for Akira. Where did he go? I can’t sense him.

Akira’s voice came from above. “I’m right here!”

A massive cloud of dust particles was over Akira’s head.

“I-is that!? Shit!” I couldn’t even tell he was preparing that!

“What exactly is that, Rikito?” Lunario asked.

  Hell…

“Alright, here goes! Higher Fusion: Massive Star!!”

Akira fused the dust into a contained ignition—an aether-sheathed star core, roaring but held in place.

The atmosphere didn’t catch fire—Akira’s barrier wrapped the star like a cage, forcing its output upward instead of outward.

“Does he intend to destroy this world in order to win?” Lunario asked.

No… he wouldn’t do that. But it won’t be easy to stop this.

“Incredible! You made an entire star!?” Helios said in shock.

“I’m not done yet! Photoreception!” Putting his hands above his head, Akira absorbed ambient aether from the star that he created.

“You can absorb solar energy just like me? It seems I’ve found the perfect host!” Helios boasted. “I can share even more power with you now that I’ve absorbed some of the energy released by your star!”

  “Really? Sweet!”

Akira’s fiery aura surged up again.

Rikito tensed. Dammit, he’s even stronger!

“Axis of the Radiant Throne: Heliocentric: Stardust Dragon Breaker!”

Akira created his usual golden beam of energy, but this time, there was a ring of fiery aether around the orb he was shooting his beam out of.

  Can I stop this?

“Don’t fret, Rikito. There is a way to counter this.”

“Lunae Potentia: Mirrored Verdict of the Silver Moon: Lunar Reflection!” Rikito barked.

A moon like Orb formed above Rikito, mimicking Akira’s star. Moonlight was never its own—Lunario simply made stolen radiance feel inevitable.

“And—Communion of the Pale Crown: Lunar Absorption!”

  Lunario’s strength swelled within Rikito.

  “Midnight Ruination Cannon!”

“How the hell did he match my power!?” Akira asked.

“It’s that damn Lunario! That bastard is stealing my power again! Or, well… I guess it’s your power this time. This star you created.”

  What? Really?

The two of their attacks exploded after an exhausting struggle.

“Yeah, Lunario has the power to reflect sun—or I guess I should say starlight—and turn it into his own power. You see that moon over his head? Yeah, now he’s also recovered his strength and is giving your friend more of a boost.”

Akira gritted his teeth. Damn, at this rate, this fight will last forever!
