Arc I - Chapter III - Episode V: "Behold! The Legendary Technique: Duality Bonding!"

  Lyte of Utopia

  Arc I: “Apocalypse”

  Chapter III: “Armageddon”

Episode V: “Behold! The Legendary Technique: Duality Bonding!”

“Abyss Breaker!” Rikito roared from above, launching the swirling orb of black and violet destruction.

  “W-what!?” Cette cried out, startled.

  “Refreshing Barrier!”

Cette barely managed to raise her dome. The orb crashed into it, splintering the shield and leaving her smoking and scorched — but still standing.

Dammit. She has more damage tolerance than the Third General, and she has her shield ability. Not to mention she can heal any damage we do… I hope those two weren’t bluffing about their new technique!

Cette’s gaze sharpened as she watched Rikito.

“You look tired, dear. Shall I make this quick? Or would you like me to peel you apart slowly?”

[In the mountains where Rayon and Darc fled]

The ground was carved with glowing red runes; a massive circular array etched into the stone like divine script. Its lines pulsed rhythmically, resonating with the two warriors standing at its center.

“Alright, the array is finished,” Darc said, wiping sweat from his chin.

Rayon clasped his hands, his voice solemn.

“Then let’s begin. Synchronize with me. No hesitation. We don’t have a moment to spare.”

  They closed their eyes, focusing.

Aether poured out of their bodies, streams of crimson and white colliding in the array, swirling violently before settling into a unified, blinding reservoir of light.

The runes hummed louder, wrapping them in tendrils of energy that tethered their souls together.

  “Flux aligned,” Rayon muttered. “Now.”

The array erupted in a blinding flash.

From the blinding glow of the array, a single figure emerged.

He hovered above the earth, the fused spirit of two warriors blazing around him — crimson streaked with white, pulsing like a living sun.

A small crimson runic array formed on his chest beneath his gi.

The man slowly ascended into the air as he looked down at the two soulless bodies that slumped over.

  [Rikito vs. Cette]

Cette’s smile faltered as her gaze snapped to the mountains.

What is that? That wasn’t there before… I assumed those two little earthlings ran away. But now…

Her grin returned, lips curling upward as her eyes glowed.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

“You tricked me, little brother. What did they do? Tell me!”

“Heh…” Rikito smirked despite the blood pooling at his feet.

“Don’t ask me. Whatever they’re doing… It’s your problem now.”

  “You brat!”

She blurred from sight — then CRACK! Her fist tore through his chest.

“RIKITO!” Asuka’s scream ripped through the battlefield as his eyes dulled, his aura fading.

  I… couldn’t even see it… she thought.

Cette didn’t even glance down at him as he fell over. Her eyes locked on the mountain.

Cette flew into the air facing the mountains. As she focused her vision in that direction, she spotted someone flying quickly towards her.

“Greetings,” he said, his voice a perfect unison of Darc and Rayon.

  Cette narrowed her eyes.

“Who are you? Where are the earthlings?”

“They are me. I am them.”

He spread his arms, the light of the runes still burning faintly along his forearms.

“Behold the miracle born of Duality Bonding: Daryon. Witness our true strength! Beware of your demise!”

“…Right.” Cette rolled her eyes, “At least your yield is impressive. Good. I was getting bored.”

“Hmph. You sure you don’t want to use one of your Demon Forms now? You’ll regret taking me lightly.”

“Oh, I’ll play with you a little first.”

“Then let’s go somewhere else.” Daryon pointed to a smaller island. “I don’t want these people interfering.”

Rikito looks messed up… Daryon thought as he looked down at them.

“Fine,” she said with a chuckle. “But I don’t think they’d make much difference.”

The two of them flew away from the mainland to a smaller island nearby.

“Rikito! Are you okay!?” Asuka shouted as she ran over to where he was lying.

“Good, he’s still breathing! Don’t worry, I’ll heal you right away!”

She laid him on his back and started healing the wound in his chest.

  [On the smaller island]

Daryon cracked his neck, his body humming with raw energy.

  “Alright… let’s get started.”

Cette floated above the broken earth, stretching her arms lazily.

“So eager. Come prove that power isn’t just for show.”

  “Gladly.”

In a blink, Daryon Aether?Skipped in front of her, his elbow aimed at her face.

She caught it — but he twisted, backflipped over her, and planted both palms on her back.

  “Blue Fragments!”

Daryon jumped away from the explosion while admiring his work.

“Heh, how’d you like that?” he said, rubbing his nose.

The smoke finally cleared to show her energy shield fading.

“Looks like that hurt… how bout another one? PURPLE CHARGE!”

If I get hit by that right now, even my shield won’t be enough!

“Demon Form! Plus… Super Refreshing Barrier!”

Cette screamed as the purple energy beam collided with her shield, the heat singeing her hair as she braced against the shockwave.

“Damn, looks like I should’ve transformed first. Whoops. Alright! Full Power Boost!”

His crimson aura expanded wildly like an untamed beast as his muscles bulged abnormally and his veins pulsated.

  “HA!”

Cette tried to attack Daryon as he finished transforming, but he easily evaded all her moves.

“Dammit! This is infuriating! How did they suddenly become so strong!?”

Cette’s scalp fizzed out steam as she ripped her hair out.

“I could have squashed them like bugs before! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!

Just wait, you fool! My brother should already be on his way! Even if you were able to magically beat me, he’ll make sure you all suffer!”

Daryon held his head as if she were yelling too loudly.

“Sounds like you’re a sore loser… but the real fight is just beginning.”

I have to remember that I can’t let this fight drag on for too long. Not only does she have the advantage in terms of stamina and regeneration, but it won’t be long until the bonding array runs out of aether.

Daryon glanced down at the array glowing beneath his gi.

  I must end this quickly!

“Hey, don’t you have a higher form you can access? Don’t you think you should use everything you have to beat me?

Or are you still underestimating me? Personally, I’m tired of playing games.”

  Daryon smiled faintly.

Cette snarled, hair whipping around her as her form warped again. “Fine. Let’s end the games.”

Her skin blackened even further like obsidian, her hair lengthening into a wild, violet mane.

  “Demon Form Level Two!”

Finally, Daryon’s face eased its tension.

“Hey, that’s some impressive power… I can see why you would think that you could beat me with it… But unfortunately for you… this isn’t my limit either!” Daryon powered down, then recentered his energy.

His bulging muscles and extenuated aura calmed themselves, his body slimmed down, and his aether hugged his body like a blanket.

Focus… I’ll re-channel my aether more efficiently to maximize my yield.

Daryon sharpened his gaze as his runes blazed brighter.

  “Now… let’s end this.”

  “Sudden Burst!”

Cette fired a wave of water-based aether in an attempt to catch him off guard — but he tore through it, meeting her head?on.

His strikes were precise and brutal, breaking through her defenses with raw power and perfect synchronization.

After a series of punishing blows, she staggered.

Daryon hovered above her, cupping his hands as energy swelled between them.

  “This is over.”

The sky turned violet as he fired.

  “PURPLE STRIKE!”

The colossal bomb devoured the horizon, setting the clouds aflame as it engulfed her.

  “N-NOOO!”

Her scream echoed before it was swallowed by the roar of the blast.

When the light faded, only smoke and ash remained.

  “And… that’s that.”

Daryon landed softly, his aura dimming before his body split apart— two shining lights flying back to the mountain range where they set up their array.

The two of them coughed and panted as life returned to their pale bodies.

“Looks like we finished the fight just in time!” Darc chuckled.

  “Whew.”

Rayon exhaled, both hands on his knees. My body is on fire…

“Remind me to never do that again.”

  Darc smirked faintly.

“Aw, you didn’t like fusing with me?”

  “Shut up.”
