Arc I: “Apocalypse”
Chapter I: “The Generals”
Episode X: “The End of The Beginning”
“Rikito…” Akira blinked awake, the world spinning above him.
“Don’t move!” Asuka snapped, her voice cracking.
Her glowing green hands pressed firmly against his chest.
“My technique links our energy — it can’t stabilize if you keep thrashing around!”
Akira ignored her and stood up, swaying on his feet. His gaze fell on Rikito. The boy stood motionless, bowing his head, fists trembling.
“Rikito!” Akira barked. “You said we’d beat him! So, fight!”
No answer.
Akira’s jaw tightened.
“Fine. Then I’ll do it myself.”
Akira pushed Asuka off and walked over towards Kai.
“Well, well,” Kai said smoothly, his black aura simmering in the night air.
“The vessel presents himself.”
“You…”
His smile widened. “You can sense it, can’t you? The immeasurable gap between us.”
“It doesn’t matter,” Akira growled.
His fists were clenched, tight and desperate.
“I’ll beat you… for making Asuka cry.”
Kai chuckled. “Bold words, kid.”
But his smile faltered.
Rage took over Akira — deeper than he’d ever felt.
His power began to surge wildly, causing the ground to crack at his feet. Akira’s aether flared thicker than ever— a dense, creamy white color.
His black hair swayed from the overflowing aether that poured out of him. His irises flashing white like twin suns.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Julie’s face drained of color. “T-that… that’s—”
Kai’s expression darkened. “No… it can’t be. That power… even Apocalypse was wary of it.”
Something about this is different… Asuka thought to herself.
Akira leveled a glowing gaze at him.
“Give up. Or else.”
“Hmph. Bold.” Kai blurred forward, a high kick aimed at Akira’s skull.
Akira didn’t flinch. He caught the general’s leg midair, twisted, and hurled the general into the dirt with one arm — the sheer force causing a gust of wind to blow everyone back.
Kai rose, dusting himself off, a genuine laugh escaping his lips.
“Impressive. But playtime’s over. Let me show you real strength.”
Rain slowly began to fall as the navy sky turned even darker.
Kai’s aura erupted like a black storm.
“Demon Form: Level One!”
“What, no special name?”
Kai smirked. “When you’re truly powerful, you don’t need gimmicks.”
In a flash, Kai vanished. Using Aether-skips, he blitzed Akira.
“Argh,” Akira didn’t even see the strike until pain exploded in his gut. The creamy light around him flickered — then died.
He hit the ground hard, reverting to his natural state, gasping for breath.
“Akira!” Asuka screamed.
Julie grinned in relief. “Ha! That’s General Kai for you.”
Rikito… didn’t move.
Kai exhaled, lowering his aura. “Well. Seems our time here is done.” He reached for Akira’s limp body—
—and blinked. It was gone.
“Oh?”
A shadow loomed.
“Enough.”
The Headmaster of the UFA materialized between them; Akira cradled in his arms.
“Kai,” his voice boomed. “Or should I say… Fourth General.”
Kai rolled his shoulders. “Took you long enough, old man. You almost ran out of time there.” He said as he tapped his wrist.
“You’ve disappointed me,” the headmaster said, lowering Akira gently to the ground. “You’ve betrayed the trust of this academy — of these children.”
Kai sneered. “Spare me your morality. I was never really one of you. This whole ‘instructor’ thing? A cover. The UFA was just a convenient way to get close to the vessel.”
The headmaster’s aura surged, a crushing white force that pressed the air flat. “Then I’ll teach you the meaning of respect.”
Kai smirked. “Respect? Cute. But fine — if you’re so eager to die.” His own power flared. “Demonic Base Form.”
The forest convulsed as their fists collided. In an instant, they were a blur— a whirlwind of strikes too fast for Asuka’s trained eyes to follow.
“They’re… even?!” Julie gasped, disbelief edging her voice.
Kai’s grin widened. “Not for long.”
His aura darkened further. “Watch closely, Rikito. This is the control you’ll need if you ever want to stand where I stand. Demon Form: Level Two.”
The pressure quintupled.
“Huh?” Rikito finally looked up as if he had woken up from a trance. “What is this incredible power?”
Before the Headmaster could react, a spear-like beam of pure black light ripped through his chest.
“Infernal Chant: Bullet of Scorching Dawn,” Kai whispered.
“Bone Piercing Ray.”
Blood sprayed in an arc as the headmaster staggered, collapsing with a guttural gasp.
“Headmaster!” Asuka screamed, sprinting to his side.
Kai powered down, exhaling. “Tch. Shame. You had potential once.”
He turned to Julie and Bills.
“We’re done. Let’s go. Before the old man pulls one of his little tricks.”
“Yes, General.” Julie bowed, shivering.
The three of them vanished into the shadows.
Asuka pressed glowing hands against the headmaster’s wound.
“It’s… It’s not working! I can’t save him!”
Rikito finally moved, his voice hollow.
“It’s too late. His energy’s gone.”
Asuka stared at him, trembling.
“What are we even supposed to do now? The headmaster’s dead! Kai and Julie are Generals! And… and Apocalypse is our father?!”
Her voice broke. “Did he… is he the one who killed our mom?”
Rikito didn’t answer.
She looked down at Akira, unconscious but breathing steadily. His calm face softened the storm inside her.
She cradled his head in her lap, silent tears streaming down her cheeks.
Meanwhile, in his mind, Akira stood adrift in endless darkness.
The shadowy figure appeared again, closer than before, hand outstretched.
“Seek the one who wanders the solitary lands,” it said, its voice a thunderous whisper that rattled the void.
Akira tried to respond — but when he opened his mouth, no sound came. No breath. He reached for his lips and felt nothing.
No mouth.
Only silence.
