Arc I - Chapter I - Episode VII: "Fire Demon"

  Lyte of Utopia

  Arc I: “Apocalypse”

  Chapter I: “The Generals”

  Episode VII: “Fire Demon”

“IT’S OVER. Kneel before my almighty power!” Felix roared, his demonic flames scorching the labyrinth walls and filling the air with stifling heat.

  Akira stood silent, chest heaving.

“What? At a loss for words? AHAHAHA!”

Akira clenched his fists. “...No. This is the perfect opportunity to test my limits.

No distractions. No witnesses. Just me pushing beyond what I thought possible.

  Felix… prepare yourself.”

Felix tilted his head back and laughed, a jagged, wicked sound.

“You? Defeat me? In your dreams.”

  Akira crouched low.

“Hyper Energy Mode… Layer Four!” His aura burst out into life, violent orange arcs tearing through the stone floor.

“That’s still not enough to stop me!” Felix spat.

Akira’s veins bulged, sweat rolling down his brow. “...Layer Five!”

The ground cracked beneath him, his energy howling like a storm ready to break its cage.

  [Elsewhere in the tunnels]

Julie stepped carefully into a large, torchlit cavern.

“What’s this?” Her voice echoed off the ancient stone.

After exploring her tunnel to a dead end, she had backtracked and found herself here — at the same labyrinth entrance as Akira.

Her eyes traced the chiseled warning at the gate.

“‘Those who enter, be warned. This sacred ground is protected from the outer realms.’” She smirked. “Strange sign.”

  She entered without hesitation.

  [High above the Giant Forest…]

A man flew across the sea at incredible speed, his presence cloaked but his aura immense.

He descended into the forest, gliding toward the same cave the students had entered.

  [Akira vs. Felix]

“Wha—what?!” Felix staggered backward. “How has your power grown so drastically?!”

Akira shot forward, movements blurred. “Dragon’s Barrage!”

He blitzed Felix, landing a flurry of punches that launched him skyward. Then Akira vanished and reappeared above him.

  “Star Destroyer!”

The golden beam tore through the air.

Felix barely managed to brace himself as the attack detonated against him, sending him crashing into the stone floor.

Akira floated above, panting. “Now… It’s really over.”

“HAHAHAHA!” Felix’s laughter crawled through the dust as he pushed himself out of the rubble, his body charred but intact.

  “What?! He’s still alive?!”

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

Akira’s muscles quivered, the backlash of his layered Hyper Energy Mode crashing through his body.

Felix grinned, jagged teeth glinting in the hellish light.

“You brat. You’ll need more than that to kill me! Inferno Death Cyclone!”

He whipped his arms outward, conjuring a massive spiraling tower of hellfire that devoured everything in its path.

The chamber screamed as stone melted to slag beneath the flames.

“Tch—!” Akira crossed his arms, blocking what he could.

The heat seared his skin raw.

Felix strolled toward him as the fire dissipated, savoring every step.

“Good… you’re still alive. Now I can cook you nice and slow…” He licked his lips.

“You bastard…” Akira spat blood. “I… won’t… lose!” He flared his aura again, summoning what little strength he had left. “Star Destroyer!”

Felix barked a laugh. “Another beam? Flaming Sky Phoenix!”

He conjured a blazing bird of fire that clashed with Akira’s beam.

Their attacks collided, the cave trembling as molten rock dripped from the ceiling.

“ARGH!” Akira’s body screamed in pain, blood dribbling down his chin.

  I can’t… keep this up!

“No use resisting! You’re finished!” Felix’s flames swelled, swallowing the beam whole.

The two techniques detonated in a blinding explosion, collapsing the ceiling of the chamber.

Akira lay broken in the rubble, vision blurring. His breath came in ragged gasps.

Across the cavern, Felix emerged — mangled but still standing, his left arm burned down to the shoulder.

“You… damn… brat.” Felix’s voice quivered with fury. “I lost an arm because of you. I won’t be able to regrow this, you know!”

Before Akira could respond, Felix’s wounds hissed and steamed. His severed arm began knitting itself into a grotesque blackened stump.

Akir’s eyes widened as he looked at Felix.

  He’s… healing?!

Felix smirked. “Surprised? This form doesn’t just make me stronger — it keeps me alive. This is the gift of a true Demon General.”

He stalked forward, flames coiling around his clawed fingers. “Now sit still… while I rip the Heart of Utopia out of your chest.”

  Akira’s throat stiffened. “The… what?”

“Woah, I can’t have that happening.”

The voice cut through the suffocating heat.

A figure descended between them, movements casual yet radiating lethal intent.

Felix’s remaining eye bulged. “Fou— Kai!?”

“Oh, so you know me,” Kai said, rolling his neck. “Then you already know… It’s over for you.”

Felix snarled and threw his flames at Kai. “Die!”

Kai didn’t even flinch. He raised a single hand, and his fingers glowed with compressed power.

Draconic Kata Verse: Roar of the Abyss!

  “Dragon Blast.”

The attack erupted — a colossal dragon-shaped surge of energy that roared as it devoured Felix’s flames.

The dragon crushed Felix under its sheer pressure, dragging him across the cave’s chamber before detonating in a grand explosion.

  Felix’s scream was cut short.

Kai exhaled softly, lowering his hand. “Well, that was a bit anti-climactic.”

Akira barely registered what happened before consciousness left him.

  Kai crouched beside him.

“You’re in rough shape, kid… but you’ll live.” He slung Akira over his shoulder. “Good thing I showed up when I did.”

All the Demon Wolves remaining in the tunnels vanished once Felix was defeated.

[Inside the labyrinth after Master Kai left]

Felix’s mangled body twitched in the shadows, clinging to life.

“Argh… my body… he destroyed me.”

  Footsteps echoed.

Felix snarled. “W-who’s there? Show yourself! I’ll—”

A chillingly sweet voice cut him off. “What a shame.”

  Felix froze.

“No… you… What are you doing here?!”

An unknown woman stepped into view, her smirk unnervingly playful.

“I’m here to relieve you of your duty.

Apocalypse is waking up soon… and when he does, we generals will present the vessel to him.

But…” she licked her lips, “not you.”

  “W-wait—!”

  “Shhh.”

  GUSHHHHHHH

The cave filled with the wet, tearing sound of a gluttonous feast.

  [The next morning]

Akira lay in a bed at Woodberry’s infirmary, staring blankly at the ceiling.

  Every breath was needles.

The image of Felix’s claws closing around his throat replayed over and over.

“You should be dead,” Rackon said from the corner, voice grim.

  “I almost was,” Akira admitted.

His voice cracked as the words left him.

“If Master Kai hadn’t shown up…”

He trailed off, shame washing over him.

Rackon didn’t respond. He didn’t need to.

Akira clenched his fists under the sheets.

“I need to get even stronger. A lot stronger. Or next time… I won’t be lucky enough to wake up.”

Later that day, the four students left Woodberry Village, exchanging final goodbyes with Rackon and Fevee before heading to UFA.

  [The day after]

They were to report before the Council of Seven — an honor reserved for only the most exceptional students.

Despite failing to kill Felix, their actions were deemed enough to pass the Trial, given its unprecedented difficulty.

“Are you ready, Akira? We need to report to the Council,” Darc said as he and Sikira waited.

“Go on ahead. I need to grab something from my room.”

“Don’t take too long!” Sikira said as she and Darc left.

As Akira walked back through the quiet corridors, a voice called out.

  “Hey, Akira.”

He turned. “Julie? You heading to the Council too?”

Julie tilted her head, smiling faintly. “Actually… I’m here to see you.”

  “Me? Why?”

They walked together toward a secluded part of campus.

Julie stopped, turning sharply to face him. “Akira… I need you to do something for me.”

  Akira blinked. “What are you—”

  Julie stepped closer.

Her footsteps were soft, but her aura was sharp and suffocating. She pressed against him while he was unable to move from the pressure she emitted.

“See… I don’t care about that Council.” Her voice dripped with amusement.

“What I really care about… is you. Mr. Vessel.” Her smile turned cold, predatory.

Akira stiffened. “Where did you hear that? Was it Sikira?”

“Oh no.” Julie’s eyes glimmered. “I heard it from Felix. Right before I absorbed him.”

  [Flashback]

Felix struggled against the wall, missing an arm and a leg. “Julie? What are you doing here? I didn’t ask for your help!”

Julie crouched beside him, eyes glowing faintly. “And I didn’t come here for your permission.”

  “W-wait! Julie—!”

“Apocalypse will rise soon. And when he does, we’ll bring him the vessel.” She grinned. “But… you won’t be there.”

  “No—NOOO—”

The sound of flesh tearing filled the chamber.

  [Back in the present]

Akira’s blood ran cold. “You… you absorbed him?!”

Julie tilted her head. “Mhm. And he told me so many interesting things. Like how you’re the key to our god’s ascension. Once Lord Apocalypse is fully risen, we’ll finally be able to do it…”

  “Apocalypse… is waking up?”

“Exactly. And you’re the vessel that will help him bring us to the Grand World. Willingly or not.”

Akira took a step back. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about. Why do you people keep calling me the vessel?!”

Julie sighed. “You still haven’t caught on? What a shame.”

Her aura flared, the air vibrating with demonic power.

“But I guess you’ll never learn… because I’m going to end you right now!”
