  Chapter I: “The Generals”

  Episode VI: “Felix”

“So, you want to hunt this guy down?” Darc crossed his arms, his voice steady but eyes sharp. “I’m in.”

“Yeah.” Akira’s voice was calm, but his fists trembled with anticipation. “It’s too dangerous to let him escape. And he’s the objective for our Trial.”

“How are we even supposed to find him?” Sikira asked.

“I have a plan for that,” Akira said, glancing at Rackon.

  [A few hours later]

  “No. Absolutely not.”

Rackon’s tone cut like a blade.

“C’mon, man. Please!” Akira begged. “We have to do this to stop Felix. At least let me ask her—”

“No.” Rackon snapped. “I’m not letting that scoundrel get anywhere near Fevee. She could get hurt.”

“We’ll protect her! With you, me, Sikira, Darc, and Julie? There’s no way Felix could lay a hand on her. Heck, I almost beat him by myself the other day.”

Rackon glared at him. “You don’t think he has any other tricks up his sleeve? He’s one of Apocalypse’s Generals. He’s not going down easy.”

Akira’s shoulders sank. “Then what do you suggest?”

  “We track him.”

Akira blinked. “What, like footprints? That’s not—”

“No, idiot.” Rackon rolled his eyes. “The village guards have trained dogs.

We’ll go back to the cave, get Felix’s scent, and let them track him. It’s safer than dragging Fevee into this.”

Akira frowned. “…I still think Fevee’s aether sensing would be faster.”

“No means no.” Rackon’s tone was final. “Tomorrow, we borrow the dogs. End of story.”

  [The next day]

“What’d I tell you? It’s working.” Rackon smirked as the dogs led them through the dense forest. “They’re on his trail.”

The crew—Akira, Rackon, Sikira, Darc, and Julie—followed silently.

The deeper they went, the heavier the air became, each step pulling them closer to their quarry.

  [A couple of hours later]

“Look.” Sikira pointed ahead. “Another cave. This one… it goes underground.”

Darc knelt beside the entrance. “The dogs won’t go any further. I think this is it.”

“Alright. I’ll tie them up here.” Rackon secured the animals before joining the group.

Inside, the cave sloped downward, narrowing into a long, dim corridor. The air grew heavy, damp, almost suffocating.

“What is this place?” Julie muttered.

“An old pathway,” Rackon replied. “It feels like one my ancestors might’ve used.”

  “Hey—look!” Akira pointed.

“Well, looks like we’re splitting up. I call the middle!” Akira said, already jogging forward.

“Then I’ll take this one!” Sikira darted down the leftmost tunnel.

“Guys, wait! This is dangerous!” Rackon barked.

“Haha, looks like they’re already gone,” Julie laughed.

Darc sighed, shaking his head and shrugging his shoulders. “There’s no point in trying to stop those two. Looks like I’ll take this route.”

Darc walked into one of the unchosen paths.

  Rackon scowled.

“Well, I’ll take that path on the right, so why don’t you take the one over there?” Julie said, pointing to the last tunnel.

  “Fine. But stay alert.”

  [A while later]

Akira’s footsteps echoed in the narrow corridor.

“Hello? Anyone here?” he called. His voice bounced back at him.

The tunnel widened into a sprawling labyrinth, the jagged walls twisting unnaturally.

“Mwahahahaha…” The laugh echoed through the maze, chilling Akira to his core.

“That voice…” Akira tightened his fists.

  “Akiraaa~.”

Felix’s voice slithered from the darkness. “I’ve been waiting for you.”

Akira felt it— a surge of demonic power, suffocating and vile.

  That’s him.

Akira followed the aether signature until the corridors opened into a chamber.

Felix stood there, smiling like a predator savoring its prey.

“There you are,” Akira said. “This is the end of the line for you.”

Felix threw his head back and cackled. “End of the line? Yes… for YOU! You’ve walked right into my trap.”

“You must be delusional. There are four others with me. Even if you could beat me, you wouldn’t be able to get past all of them.” Akira narrowed his eyes. “You’re bluffing.”

“Bluffing? No, no, no.” Felix wagged his finger mockingly.

“You didn’t read the warning outside, did you?

This is no ordinary labyrinth. It’s sealed—your friends can’t sense you in here. They’ll wander in circles while my wolves tear them apart.”

Akira’s aura flared. “You really think that’ll stop us?”

“Think?” Felix grinned wider. “No. I know. While your friends struggle, I’ll burn you alive. HAHAHA!”

“Hmph. Big words from someone who couldn’t lay a finger on me last time.” Akira crouched, his energy surging. “Hyper Energy Mode — Layer Three!”

Flames of orange aether erupted around him, his body crackling with raw power.

Felix’s expression sharpened. “So, you’re forcing out your power in bursts. Interesting… but not enough.”

  “Oh yeah? Try me.”

“I’ll show you a real transformation, boy.”

Felix inhaled deeply. The ground trembled as his aether spiked. A suffocating, fiery aura engulfed him.

Akira’s heart skipped. “W-what is this?”

Felix’s skin blackened like charred stone, his eyes blazing crimson. His spiky orange hair darkened to embers, and his aura erupted into a fiery inferno.

“Behold.” Felix raised his arms, basking in his new form. “Fire Demon Felix!”

The aether rolling off him was suffocating—twice what it had been before.

“HAHAHAHAHA! Now…” Felix pointed at Akira, his claws glowing red-hot.

  “I’ll finish you for good.”
