Chapter 6

Kristina, Rose and Ernst enter the Adventurer's guild at sunrise, as it was scheduled. They find the main hall mostly empty, except for Nicolas, the attendant, who waves at them as he sees them come in.

Kristina is wearing a black hooded coat that covers her from head to toe and under it she has a long-sleeved shirt, pants and boots. For her face she wears a red mask and for her hands red gloves.

Ernst wears the same clothing as Kristina, except his mask and gloves are white.

Rose just wears the same maid uniform as always. Well, technically she did actually change her clothes from yesterday to now, but all her sets of clothes look identical.

A few minutes pass and Lutz arrives. Seeing Rose, he correctly assumes that the two masked people with her must be Kristina and Ernst and heads straight to them.

"These are the members of my party, Cheer Guard." He gestures towards 3 people accompanying him.

"Hi-hi, I'm Alina Healer!" A short woman introduces herself, she seems a bit shy. Just by her last name I'm already able to know what she does, profession based bynames are actually kinda useful. Her height is around 150 centimeters, she has long blonde hair and green eyes. She wears a white robe with green stripes and carries around a wooden magical staff with a green orb on its tip.

"I'm Hilda Shieldbearer," a muscular woman introduces herself. She has neck-length hair red as fire and hazel eyes. She wears metal armor and carries a metal shield which seems to be as tall as her. Spikes on the knuckles of her gauntlet indicate that her main attack method is likely punching.

"Marian Archer, s'up," a tall woman introduces herself. Her eyes are her long hair are both brown. She wears leather armor and carries a longbow.

"Nice to meet you all, I am Kristina Sanguis and I shall be accompanying you on this job. I apologize for my attire, I'm a vampire, as you must have already heard, so I must protect myself from the sun."

"I'm Ernst Brennen, Kristina's head butler. Also a vampire, as you can deduce."

"My name is Rose and I'm Lady Kristina's lady's maid!" She sounds proud as she mentions her position as a servant of her lady. "And I'm a human like you."

"Well, with introductions finished, I assume we shall be on our way?" Kristina asks.

"Indeed, I just need to do one thing first" Lutz replies. "Nicolas! Message the count's estate to tell them we are on our way!" He shouts so the attendant hears it across the room.

As the group walks through the streets, Lutz asks Kristina's trio a question. "Do you guys want to share a carriage with us or do you prefer to rent your own?"

"We actually have a carriage of our own." Kristina answers.

"Of course, shouldn't be surprised, you seem like a noble... Well, not how you are dressed now, but how you were yesterday."

  "Have you already rented yours?"

"No. There's a place right beside the eastern gate where we can rent one, we are going to rent when we get there."

"Then, would you like to go in our carriage instead?"

  "Really?"

  "Yes, really. "

"Thank you, that would save us some money."

"Although, everyone should be able to fit, it might be a bit tight for this many people."

"That's no issue for us, right?" The rest of his party nods in agreement. "So, where is your carriage?"

"It's in my mansion, I can get it here or anywhere else with Warp."

"Of course, you have a mansion..."

"Huh... So why not just warp to the count's estate?" Marian asks.

"I can't go to a place that isn't in my Map," Kristina explains.

Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit.

  "Ah, that makes sense."

Beyond the eastern gate, they travel in Kristina's carriage. Ernst is the only one outside, acting as coachman. I had actually made a coachman NPC, but, since he's a demon, Ernst has been having to do it instead...

There's two couch-like seats, one on the front facing back and one on the back facing front. Kristina, Rose and Alina are on the back while Lutz, Hilda and Marian are on the front.

"This seat is so comfortable I feel I could fall asleep on it," Hilda comments.

"Me too..." Marian yawns. "I didn't get much sleep last night..."

  Soon those two fall asleep.

"Your name is Rose, right...?" Alina, the shy girl, asks.

"That's correct." The lady's maid answers.

"Sorry, if this is rude, but... why aren't you a vampire, Rose?"

"Because she never asked," the maid's lady answers in her stead.

"Eh...?" Rose is surprised. "I can just ask?"

"Indeed! How do you think Ernst became a vampire?"

"Never thought about that, I imagined he was already a vampire when you recruited him..."

"You have a crush on him, but you didn't even know that...?" Wait, did I say this out loud? If his hearing is anywhere as good as mine, he definitely heard it, dammit...

"How do you know that?!" She's clearly flustered. "Oh, right... You made me..."

"Created? Did she make you? Like one makes a golem?" Alina's curiosity seems to be able to bypass her shyness.

"No! Raised! I meant raised!" Kristina is quick to correct. "Also, I apologize Rose, I really didn't intend to say it out loud..."

"No need to worry, my lady, I was already aware of her feelings!" Still driving the carriage, Ernst answers loud enough for everyone in the inside to hear.

"He knew..." Rose's face looks as red as beetroot. "And didn't do anything about it..." Concluding that he must not reciprocate her feelings, she starts crying.

"I'm sorry! It was all because of my question..." Alina blames herself.

"Nosense, there's no way you could've know and it was my fault for not being able to keep my mouth shut!" Kristina blames herself.

"You wouldn't have needed to keep your mouth shut if I didn't ask! So, it's my fault!"

"Still, it only happened because of my lack of self control, thus it's my fault!"

"What's happening...?" Hilda starts waking up.

"Alie and Kristina are fighting for the blame of embarrassing Rose," Lutz explains.

"Kristina's the lady and Rose's the maid right...?"

  "Yeah..."

"Alright..." She close her eyes and quickly returns to sleep.

  "It's my fault!" Alina shouts.

"No, it's my fault!" Kristina shouts back.

"My lady... It's cute when you act like a child, but please not right now..." Rose mutters amidst tears.

"Wha- Alright... I might have behaved a bit immaturely... Forgive me." Kristina apologizes.

  "It's fine..."

"I also acted immaturely, I'm sorry." Alina says.

"You don't need to apologize, I can't blame a child for acting like a child..."

"I'm an adult! I'm just short!" Alina corrects her.

  "Oh... Apology accepted then..."

"Rose, let me make up to you," Kristina pats her lap.

  "What do you mean?"

"Let me comfort you! Just use my lap as a pillow." I saw this in an anime once! In multiple anime actually!

"If you insist..." Rose lays her head on Kristina's lap and Kristina starts to gently stroke Rose's hair.

"You know, I have experienced unrequited love before... It might be hard, but all you can really do is move on..." She says, more as Emilia than as Kristina. I wonder if the backstory I had made for Kristina became real? Players didn't have descriptions like custom NPCs, so my backstory was only really in my head...

"From what she told me, didn't she have only one love? And that was quite requited, although lost... A white lie is harmless, I suppose." Ernst thinks.

Rose sleeps peacefully with her head on Kristina's lap. Alina also sleeps, although without the privilege of Kristina's lap.

"So, we are the only ones still awake, the leaders of each group," Lutz comments.

  "Besides Ernst outside."

"Yeah, guess someone gotta drive this thing, haha."

"Swordfighter, there was actually something I wanted to talk with you." Kristina asks looking the Cheer Guard party leader in the eyes.

  "Yes?"

"This might be hard to believe, but we actually come from a different world, something sent us to this one."

"Okay, that's a wild claim, but I see no reason to distrust you so I will accept it at least for now." That's a reasonable reaction. "Why are you telling me this?"

"I wanted to know if the other humanoid species look different here."

"Sure, just describe them to me."

"In my world, demons look like humans but with horns and pointy ears."

"It's the exact same here. "

"Beastfolk have animal ears and tail."

  "Same here."

  "Elves have long pointy e-"

  "Same."

"Alright then, it seems there aren't any differences then." That's getting kind of suspicious, why is this world so similar to the game, but yet not the same? "Most of my servants aren't human, do you think that would cause trouble if they accompanied me?"

"As long as they aren't demons, it should be fi-"

"Most of them are demons, actually..."

"Hmm... That could be an issue, the kingdom of Stark and the Demon Kingdom have been enemies for many generations, so there's lots of animosity against demons here."

"I see... What's the name of this demon kingdom?"

"It's just called the Demon Kingdom."

  "Oh..."

"And it's ruler is called the Demon King."

  "Huh... That's kinda generic..."

"Well, he's the only king who's a demon and his country is the only kingdom of demons, so there's not really anyone else to be confused with."

"In my world, there were multiple. For instance, I was a duchess of the demon kingdom of Daemonia." Daemonia was just demon in latin, so I guess not that different from Demon Kingdom...

"I believe we have arrived!" Ernst shouts.

"Thank you Swordfighter, that was all very useful information," Kristina bows her head.

"It was nothing, I would have talked anyways to pass time," Lutz answers shrugging his shoulders.
