Shocked with the sudden revelation that the newcomer in the guild is a vampire, many of the adventurers that were sitting stand up and pull out their weapons. They now look at her as if she was a monster that wandered in.
Kristina turns to look at them. "What? Never seem a nice vampire before?" She asks in a sarcastic tone, before turning back to the attendant, Nicolas Auge. "I think it would be good for you to read the rest of my Stats out loud as well."
"Of course," he smiles. "Rank Unlanded," not that part though!! "Level 100, Strength 100, Constitution 100, Intelligence 100, Agility 100, Magic 100."
"See? I'm better an ally than a foe, don't you guys think?" She asks the adventurers, with a smug smirk on her face. Some are in disbelief, some feel awe and some feel dread. All of those who had pulled out their weapons stow them away as it's now clear there's no chance they would be able to beat her anyways.
Rose is included among the ones feeling awe, she knew her lady was strong, but she had no idea of the extent. Meanwhile, Ernst is unsurprised, that was about what he expected.
"As an attendant, I'm unfortunately not authorized to register a new adventurer as any rank higher than D. The guild master could register you at a higher rank, but he's currently unavailable." Interesting, there weren't ranks in Vera. The closest thing was that quests would have a level recommendation, but even so you were allowed to take higher level quests.
"Can we register now and then talk him into raising our ranks later?"
"That should be possible, yes."
"So, that's what we shall do."
"Very well," he takes a piece of paper from a drawer below his desk, almost the exact same size as the Stats menu. "Copy," the information on the Stats screen is appears on the paper. "You can dispel your Stats screen now."
Stats.
"Copy," he casts again and Kristina's face appear on the paper, in a place on the top right of the paper that was unfilled by text.
He takes another paper from the drawer below his desk. This one is smaller, having the proportions of a card, but it's thicker, also like a card.
"Make Card." The small paper is filled with information. On the left, Kristina's face. On the right, a big stylized letter D symbolizing that she's D rank. On the middle, her name "Kristina Sanguis".
"That is a pretty specific spell..." She comments.
"Indeed, it's a custom spell after all." Custom spells? There's lots I need to learn about this world...
He stores the big paper and gives the card to Kristina. She looks at its back and see that it has the Adventurer's Guild logo.
"Next one, please?", he asks.
Kristina moves out of the way and her lady's maid goes next.
"Stats," Rose casts.
Name: Rose
Species: Human
Rank: Unlanded
Level: 100
Strength: 70
Constitution: 100
Intelligence: 30
Agility: 40
Magic: 5
"Wha- How am I...?" She's shocked by her own abilities.
"Because that's the way I made you." Eh... That was a slip up, I meant to say raised. All her of the NPCs in her mansion have max level.
"Oh... I should've known, there's no way my lady would have made me into anything less." It seems she didn't take it to literally mean creating her, that's a relief...
Maybe... I did choose the honesty route, right? Should I actually tell them that they were fictional characters turned real...? How would I even go about doing that?
The attendant repeats the same process he did to make Kristina's card. "Copy, Copy, Make Card. Next one, please?"
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Ernst, the last one remaining, goes next. "Stats."
Name: Ernst Brennen
Species: Human (Vampire)
Rank: Unlanded
Level: 100
Strength: 30
Constitution: 50
Intelligence: 100
Agility: 80
Magic: 70
"You seem unsurprised..." Kristina mutters.
"It's not my first time checking my Stats," he answers.
Once again, the attendant repeats the process. "Copy, Copy, Make Card." The attendant gives Ernst his card. "The registrations are thus finished, they will be 15 copper."
Kristina puts one Daemonian gold coin on the table. "Sorry, I'm not sure what's the exchange rate..."
"Hmm..." The attendant picks the coin up and feels its weight. "I will assume a 1 to 1 relation to a Stark gold coin."
He opens a drawer and takes from it 8 silver coins and 5 cooper coins which he hands to Kristina. "Thank you for your patronage, anything else I may help with?"
My nose is picking up something... something fried... "So, you serve food here at the guild, right?" Kristina asks.
"Indeed," he points at a girl serving drinks to some man, she's wearing waitress clothes. "Just ask her."
"How do we pay?"
"You can pay through her or you can pay your tab later with me."
"I see."
The trio sits at an empty table. Kristina and Rose on one side and Ernst on the other.
The waitress sees them and approaches. "Are you new here?" she asks with a smile. Did she not notice we just registered? Even with the whole debacle over me being a vampire? Actually, she seems to be the only waitress in this whole place, so no wonder she didn't notice. She would be too busy with her job to pay attention to anything else.
"Yes, we just registered," Kristina answers.
"That's cool! Always nice to have some extra folk around." We only wanted the identification cards, sorry. We probably won't do any actual adventuring.
"So, what's on the menu?"
"Today we have fish and chips."
"Anything else?"
"No, just fish and chips. Well, you could also ask for just fish or just chips..."
"Alright... Does any of it have garlic? I'm very allergic."
"No need to worry, our recipe doesn't use garlic."
"Good, I'll want the fish and chips then."
"Will the other lady want something too?"
Rose looks at Kristina, as if asking for permission.
Kristina sighs, I'm honestly a bit offended she thinks there's a possibility that I wouldn't allow her to order food for herself... "Ask for anything you want, I will pay for everyone."
"I will want the fish and chips as well..." Rose finally speaks.
"And you, sir?" She asks Ernst.
"I'm not hungry, thank you," he replies.
"Alright then, two fish and chips. Will you want drinks?"
"Do you have wine?" Ernst asks.
"I'm afraid we do not... Would ale suffice?"
"It would."
"Is there anything non-alcoholic?" Kristina asks.
"We have milk."
"Then I shall have milk."
"Does she not know that milk is a children's drink?" Rose thinks.
The two fish and chips, a tankard of ale and a tankard of milk, all arrive at their table.
"Will this cover it?" Kristina places a Daemonian gold coin on the table.
"Huh... I think it should. Even if it's was worth half of Stark's gold coins it would cover it," the waitress replies.
"Then please take it as payment."
"Are you sure? I think you are overpaying."
"We only have gold coins, so overpaying is our only option."
"What a problem to have... Alright then," she takes the coin and leaves to attend other tables.
As Kristina eats, less and less adventurers look at her with suspicion.
"Eating normal food to endear herself to the adventurers, truly cunning! I would expect nothing less from my lady!" Ernst thinks.
Yum! I love fish and fries, I mean, chips.
After finishing her food, Kristina turns to Ernst.
"So, do you have any plans to get a meeting with the Count?"
"As a foreign noble, it would be likely that he would accept even a sudden visit."
"Currently, my rank is literally Unlanded on my Stats. How do you suppose I prove my nobility?"
"Your wealth and status is clear from your appearance." Well, I do wear very fancy dresses, but...
"He could think I'm just from some rich merchant family."
"That is true..."
"Now, it's not like your plan has no chance of working, if we can't think of anything better we will go with it... If it fails, I can always just use brute force, would prefer not to though." It's always more satisfying to get what you want without a fight.
An adventurer who was sat at a neighboring table, approaches and sits besides Ernst. He's a young man with blonde hair and green eyes, wearing leather armor and a sword at his hip.
"Hi and welcome to the guild, I am Lutz."
"Greetings, I'm Kristina Sanguis."
"Hello, my name is Rose, I'm Kristina's lady's maid." Lutz face makes it obvious he has no idea what's a "lady's maid".
"I am Ernst, head butler. If you don't mind me asking is Lutz your full name?"
"I do not have a family name like nobles do, but often people call me Lutz Swordfighter." I have read that, in medieval times, commoners would often have something sorta like a 'surname', called a 'byname'. Bynames weren't hereditary and were often either a person's job or their father's name.
"So, mister Swordfighter, what brings you to our table?" Kristina asks.
"Couldn't help, but hear you mention that you want to meet the count."
"And...?"
"My party is actually doing a job for the count tomorrow, I wanted to ask if you would want to come with us?"
"That could be helpful," Ernst comments. "What's the job?"
"Apparently a goblin tribe set camp near his estate, so he posted a quest asking for them to be dealt with and my party accepted it."
Ernst has a look in his eyes that somehow I know means "It's your choice my lady."
"I don't see an Issue in going with you. What time of day though?"
"Oh, right, you are a vampire... I could talk with my party members about doing it at night."
"That won't be necessary, I would be dead already if I didn't have way to survive during the day."
I can just use a coat with a hood, gloves and a mask to cover all my skin from the sun, like I did when I was low level, or if that doesn't work I can always cast 'that'.
"And the same applies to me." Ernst adds.
"Then we shall meet here again at sunrise tomorrow, see you then." He says, leaving back to the table he came from.
"I finally got used to the nocturnal lifestyle... This will destroy my sleep schedule won't it?" Rose cries.
Kristina pats Rose's head. "Don't worry, I know spells that can put you asleep, I could use them to help you fix your sleep schedule later if you want."
"My lady? You would do that for me?" She asks with tears in her eyes.
"Of course, you are one of my most prized servants."
