Against the Odds: Fueling the Fight?
On his 18th birthday, Colton Reed was left at a gas station to fend for himself. During his travels, the days seemed to stretch forever. That's when he developed the habit of using the word "we" in conversations. Eventually, he made it to his first city, and after searching for a couple of months, he was finally hired, making his dream of becoming an engineer seem achievable. Eventually, he was accepted into the college of his dreams. He studied harder than anyone else, but one night everything changed. A mysterious building had appeared in the middle of the city about a week after he had arrived. At first, most people just ignored it until a few months ago when the doors flew open and a small child, about 10 years old, walked through. His caretaker screamed at him to come back, but he kept walking as if his conscience had been shut off. After this incident, warning signs were placed around the city, telling parents to keep their children away. An investigation was conducted but led to nothing. The next time it happened, a parent tried to pull their child away and died on contact. After a long night of studying, on my way back home, the doors opened and a gentle voice lured me in. My body gravitated towards it. I tried to pull away, but my efforts were futile. Everyone watched, knowing there was nothing they could do. With a thunderous slam, the doors shut, and incandescent lights flickered on, revealing a decrepit concrete tunnel. My fate was sealed, and now my only goal was to escape this facility and return to the life I had earned.
