Chapter 29.7: A Heroic Death: The Honor of the Scapegoat

  1. The Chivalrous General and the Invisible Defense Layer

  2.

The Black Guardian Divine Dog King (H?c H? Th?n Khuy?n V??ng) was the Lang King's strongest and most loyal general. He was a beastman with a dog's head and a human body, dark skin, eyes shining like stars, and magnificent, multi-colored black raven wings on his back, carrying the bloodline of the Heavenly Dog Divine Bird (Thiên Khuy?n Th?n ?i?u). The Black Guard was renowned for his chivalry and kindness, earning praise from both comrades and enemies.

In the assault on the Chau Ng?c Kingdom Capital, his Heavenly Dog Army (Thiên Khuy?n Quan) was the most disciplined and strict unit, always at the forefront of every battle. They suffered more than half casualties, yet no one retreated.

The second wall was not only a physical barrier but was also protected by a thick energy membrane, like an invisible dome. This dome was weaker underground, so the White Guardian Demon Wolf General (B?ch H? Ma Lang T??ng) was assigned the mission to descend into the tunnels to destroy the energy towers that controlled this invisible barrier.

  1. The Four Symbols Formation and Deception

  2.

The Black Guardian Divine Dog King silently observed for many days, noticing that the general defending the second wall was an ordinary man named Ng?c Tr?n, whose hair and body were all white due to the consequences of a failed breakthrough. But how could he alone hold off all four generals of the same rank (Golden Core)?

Ng?c Tr?n appeared simultaneously at all four city gates (East, West, South, North), creating a great morale boost for the entire defending army. On his back, he always wore four small flags bearing the images of the Four Divine Symbols (T? T??ng Th?n Thú):

  • Divine Dragon (Th?n Long - Wind): Increases the power of arrows shot.

  •
  • White Guardian (B?ch H? - Water): Restores physique and vitality.

  •
  • Vermilion Bird (Chu T??c - Fire): Summons firebirds to attack.

  •
  • Black Tortoise (Huy?n V? - Earth): Repairs the city walls automatically.

  •

After many days of failed assaults, the Black Guard and the three remaining generals (Fire Wolf General, Iron Wolf General, Earth Wolf General) used their full power to drill a hole through the Energy Wall and rushed straight in. The four Lang Generals immediately sought out Ng?c Tr?n at their respective gates to attack, hoping for a swift elimination.

The Energy Wall slowly closed, trapping all four of them inside. Arrows rained down, and various spells attacked them. To finish quickly, they focused their full force on the Ng?c Tr?n controlling the formation flag.

But Ng?c Tr?n vanished. The formation flag still flew. It was then that they realized they had been tricked; this was only a clone of Ng?c Tr?n used to lure them in. The three other generals retreated, using their strongest strikes to drill a large hole in the barrier and escaping to save their lives.

  1. The Divine Eye and Teleportation Capability

  2.

The Black Guardian Divine Dog King did not retreat. He flew a circle, fully confident in his Supreme Golden Core (K?t ?an Siêu C?p) cultivation (far surpassing the Ninth-Rank Golden Core rank that Ng?c Tr?n was aiming for). He activated his Divine Eye (Th?n Nh?n), an eye that could see the energy currents flowing everywhere; within the formation, the energy would flow towards the person maintaining the Formation. After flying several circles, he discovered Ng?c Tr?n's true location.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Fast as lightning, he slammed down from above. In his hand was the Vajra Mace (Chùy Kim Cang) imbued with Lightning attribute, capable of shrinking to fit in his palm or growing as large as a five-story tower. As soon as he touched the ground, thunder and lightning erupted, flooding the air within a 100 {m} radius. But he saw no sign of Ng?c Tr?n.

In a flash, four Ng?c Tr?n clones appeared simultaneously, leaping onto the Black Guardian Divine Dog King's head, plunging Black Swords (H?c Ki?m) shrouded in powerful Killing Intent (Sát khí) through his energy shield, wounding him.

He immediately recognized the true body, as only one clone caused a deep wound. The Vajra Mace automatically discharged electricity, but that was still a clone. He struck one clone, and the remaining one stabbed him once more before vanishing.

The Black Guardian Divine Dog King roared in frustration. Ng?c Tr?n's two stabs were taking effect: the Dark Poison (?m ??c) from the Black Sword reduced his MP regeneration rate, and the Killing Intent made him furious, gradually losing his reason.

He forced his Divine Eye open once more and understood: Ng?c Tr?n possessed Teleportation ability (swapping his position with a clone)—a costly spell, but constantly replenished by the formation.

Ng?c Tr?n, from the top of a tall tower, leaped and delivered a powerful strike directly to his eye. Blood spurted, and the Black Guard was temporarily blinded. In a panic, he threw the Vajra Mace forward to guide him and carve a large hole in the energy shield, then scrambled outside. Severely injured and with weakened eyes, he dared not recklessly charge in alone again.

  1. Honor and a Heroic Death

  2.

Many days later, the White Guardian Demon Wolf General successfully infiltrated the second wall, transforming into a giant Demon Wolf (Ma Sói) taller than a seven-story building. He used his full power to collapse one of the four ten-story energy towers, weakening the energy wall.

At that exact moment, the three generals (Black Guardian Divine Dog King, Earth Wolf General, Iron Wolf General) attacked together, breaching a hole in the energy shield and rushing in. Coupled with the Demon Wolf General, they destroyed another energy tower. Only two towers remained. One city gate was breached, and the Lang Army poured in like ants.

Ng?c Tr?n struggled fiercely until he was cornered. He created hundreds of clones, using the Black Sword and Black Fire (H?c H?a) to attack and annihilate the enemy. He fought so valiantly that the corpses of the Lang Army piled up into a small mound 5 {m} high; no Lang Army soldier dared to approach.

The Black Guardian Divine Dog King commanded: "Everyone step back, he is mine."

Ng?c Tr?n looked at his opponent and said: "Haha, finally a worthy adversary! I am ready to die now, if you can manage it."

The Black Guardian Divine Dog King bowed respectfully to his opponent and said: "You are a strong man. Drink this."

Ng?c Tr?n saw a recovery potion and drank it immediately without hesitation. His body instantly recovered.

The Black Guardian Divine Dog King laughed and said: "Haha, aren't you afraid of poison?"

Ng?c Tr?n replied: "Haha, no. You highly value your reputation; you would certainly never play foul, even against your enemy."

The Black Guardian Divine Dog King smiled and said: "It's a pity, no one has ever understood me as you do. In a different life, we would surely be sworn brothers. Would you like to share a cup of wine with me?"

Ng?c Tr?n continued to smile and said: "Am I afraid of you? Bring the wine! We shall become friends now."

They both drank wine and exchanged flattering compliments. By the tenth cup, Ng?c Tr?n said: "Our friendship ends here. If there is a next life, we shall continue drinking." With that, he slammed the cup down and stood up.

The Black Guardian Divine Dog King also finished his wine and said: "Let it be known who served which master. If there is a next life, I hope we serve the same master."

They saluted each other one last time and charged, their Killing Intent filling the sky. They fought fiercely for half a day; soldiers on both sides stopped fighting and retreated. It wasn't until the third and fourth energy towers collapsed that Ng?c Tr?n was defeated. He died, but his face held a satisfied smile. Dying at the hands of the Black Guardian Divine Dog King was an honor for him—a completely unknown man who, in an instant, shone brightly with the reputation of a loyal national protector and a worthy adversary.
