Chapter 29.6: Chau Ngoc Yen: The Beginning of an Emperor

After many days, with the Lang King's army flooding every street, it was too late. Enemy soldiers stormed house by house, looting provisions, capturing women and children as slaves, and hacking men to death on the spot. Jewels, treasures, and valuable items were plundered, loaded onto carts, and concentrated in one area. This was also the moment the Immortal Cultivators (Tiên Gia) took action. They infiltrated the West Lang army, secretly leading the people they needed to save outside and arranging safe hiding places. Despite their precautions, they were discovered, leading to small, scattered battles across the city, with fire erupting everywhere.

The Lang King’s main forces advanced straight to the second wall, 35m high. The Wind Wolf Guards (Phong Lang V?) suffered more than half casualties attempting to fly over. The air defense guards on the wall noticed the chaos inside the first wall. This area was defended by the Chau Ng?c Kingdom's most elite troops and many talented generals, holding firm to prevent anything from entering or leaving.

Simultaneously, the Lang Kingdom's elite forces moving through the underground sewers were fiercely attacked by the creatures living down there: Ratmen (Ng??i Chu?t), Lizardmen (Ng??i Th?n L?n), and Mutated Humans (Ng??i C?i T?o), and even monsters over $5\text{m}$ tall. A great number of the Lang King’s elite soldiers were annihilated.

Meanwhile, King Chau Ng?c T? was indulging in wine and merriment with concubines, officials, and his sons at a grand, week-long winter festival feast behind the third wall, within the Chau Ng?c Kingdom Palace. Despite hearing that the enemy had breached the first wall and was stopped at the second, the King remained unconcerned. He continued to feast, carelessly ordering only a few martial generals to investigate.

King Chau Ng?c T? had 15 sons, all resembling their father. Only the 14th Prince, Chau Ng?c Yên, was different. With a gentle nature and frugal lifestyle, he won the hearts of many, reminiscent of the Chau Ng?c Kingdom's great King in his youth. Consequently, many people followed the Prince. Chau Ng?c Yên was the only prince not attending the feast. He was at the home of his literature teacher, H?u Thành Danh, and his martial arts teacher, Doanh Th??ng Quan, studying with his classmates in the area protected by the second wall. Phong Tr?n, the man with the Jiaolong (River Dragon) arm, a quiet and absolutely loyal figure, always silently shadowed the young Prince.

Many times, while the Prince was studying, Phong Tr?n stood outside the courtyard, silently guarding. This time was the same; he waited in silence but continuously received updates from the Royal Shadow Corps (ám B? Quan) disguised as gardeners.

  The Shadow Corps reported:

  •   "The Lang King's army is splitting into two directions, heading into the underground sewers.

  •

  •   One direction is led by the White guard Demon Wolf General (B?ch H? Ma Lang T??ng).

  •

  •   The other direction continues the assault on the second wall, led by the Black guard Divine Dog General (H?c H? T??ng Th?n Khuy?n).

  •

  •   Both possess Golden Core (K?t ?an) strength and are considered among the strongest generals in the Lang Kingdom."

  •

Phong Tr?n replied: "Good, maintain contact. Use the Ratmen as bait to lead them deeper into the Labyrinth."

Phong Tr?n asked further: "What about the Lang King?"

The Shadow Corps said: "Near the Lang King are 3 generals: the Fire Wolf General, the Iron Wolf General, and the Earth Wolf General, assisting with the second wall assault. Additionally, there are 2 less famous, unnamed individuals: one from the Star Family (Tinh Gia), and one from the Yin-Yang Family (?m D??ng Gia). Their personal combat ability is not high, but their command ability is very strong."

"According to intelligence, the Fire Wolf General will also descend into the underground labyrinth in 10 days."

Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

Phong Tr?n instructed: "Track the Fire Wolf General. Notify me immediately when he enters the labyrinth."

When class ended, the students went for lunch and rest. H?u Thành Danh and Doanh Th??ng Quan met Phong Tr?n at the gate to ask about the situation. Upon learning the details, everyone proceeded with the original plan drafted by Noe.

The plan was to lead the students out, using the Prince's classmates as a distraction. The group would split into two directions to escape the first wall and flee the Capital. Noe and reinforcements would be waiting outside.

  •   Doanh Th??ng Quan brought his family unit, the Century Battalion (Bách H? Doanh)—about 100 absolutely loyal, super-strong men. Doanh Th??ng Quan rode a majestic Three-Horned Earth Dragon (??a Long Ba S?ng), holding the Fire Spirit Sword of his master's father.

  •

  •   H?u Thành Danh entered the students' courtyard. He was always accompanied by a male assistant beauty, his contracted spiritual beast, the Three-Tailed Fire Fox (H?a H? Tam V?), who had just reached the Golden Core (K?t ?an) stage.

H?u Thành Danh addressed the students: "Today, we will learn mock battles with real warriors. But in a few days, we will learn real battles with real weapons. Therefore, I demand you put in your utmost effort these days. Because the upcoming lessons may involve blood, tears, and... of course, a lot of sweat." He sighed with relief, having almost said "loss of life."

These students were too young, having never even killed a chicken. Hearing about such practical combat training made them excited and eager to participate.

Seven days later, the students followed Phong Tr?n and their teachers down to the Underground City (Thành ph? Ng?m) right beneath the Chau Ng?c Capital. At the same time, the White Guardian Demon Wolf General emerged from the underground labyrinth, advancing into the second wall. He immediately planned with his subordinates to open the city gate from the inside.

The regular wall guards, who were only skilled at dealing with flying soldiers, were completely overwhelmed by the strength of the Lang King's subordinate generals, partly because they were caught by surprise, and partly because there were no great generals left to defend the area.

Each member of the Century Battalion cared for one student, with the 14th Prince closely following Doanh Th??ng Quan during this 'practical training.' Phong Tr?n led the way, with H?u Thành Danh and the Three-Tailed Fire Fox bringing up the rear. Along the way were checkpoints monitored by the Shadow Corps. When the Prince was far enough, they began setting traps to block anyone from following.

Throughout this 'practical training' journey, they encountered many rats and strangely shaped monsters, some with large hands and small hands, or large feet and small feet... Most wore hoods to conceal their abnormalities. Occasionally, they went mad, which was terrifying. The students cried out, but a few were brave enough to fight.

The initial laughter and playfulness disappeared. Prince Chau Ng?c Yên began to understand the situation. He asked his teacher directly:

"Teacher, please stop hiding it from me. What is happening on the surface?"

Doanh Th??ng Quan pondered but, seeing the sincere and trusting look in his student's eyes, he told the truth: "I am not sure what is happening up there right now, but I guess the second wall is about to be breached. We are transitioning from 'special training' to an escape to the outside."

The Prince nodded: "So my suspicions were correct. What about my parents and my friends' parents?"

Doanh Th??ng Quan was very pleased that his student cared about his friends rather than being worried or afraid for himself. He said: "My Prince, our current responsibility is to protect you. The others are old enough to protect themselves. May I ask a favor of you?"

The Prince clasped his hands and bowed: "Your student listens; please teach me."

Doanh Th??ng Quan said: "I need the Prince to tell your friends about the current situation."

The Prince thought for a moment and said: "Yes, Teacher." The Prince gathered his friends and told them the truth. Immediately afterward, there was crying and shouting. The Prince single-handedly comforted and talked to each friend until all the crying gradually subsided and stopped completely. The students turned to their teachers, thanking them for their help. The Prince's leadership capacity was very high.

The journey underground, which had initially been filled with fear, suddenly became more engaging and useful as new members joined the group.

All of them were carefully selected by Phong Tr?n, possessing good and cheerful personalities. They were arranged to help the Prince familiarize himself with the **Southern Barbarian (Nam Man)** (other-human races). This was a preparation step so that Chau Ng?c Yên, when he ascends the throne, would not panic or despise these tribes.

  The new members included:

  •   The Ratman Sword Master (B?c Th?y Ki?m ??o Ng??i Chu?t): With extremely fast attack speed, the entire group of students received a very fun and humorous sword training course.

  •

  •   The Lizardman (Ng??i Th?n L?n): Specialized in using spears, possessing flexible combat skills.

  •

  •   The Three Long-Arm Brothers (A Nh?t, A Nh?, A Tam): With abnormally long arms, they had an advantage in close-quarters combat and space control.

  •

  •   The One-Eyed Giant (Ng??i Kh?ng L? M?t M?t): 8m tall, a formidable physical force.

  •

All of them possessed great strength but simple minds, making them very suitable to be loyal subordinates to Chau Ng?c Yên. The Prince quickly reciprocated the friendliness and cheerfulness of these other-human races, building his first relationships outside the noble circle.
