Turns out that fighting while trying to move was no easy feat. It was one thing to hold your ground and have time to judge the approach of the enemies and figure out what it was you wanted to do.
It was another thing to be moving towards the enemy as they moved towards you, and with there not being a lot of distance between us, it required my family and I to react to the snakes much quicker.
Far less thought and much more instinctual actions.
But when you weren’t used to making those type of actions in this type of setting, where your life was quite literally on the line, then it became a challenge.
One that I was determined to lessen for that of my family.
No, I wasn’t some super brave person, nor was I just foolhardy and there was definitely a large belly of nervousness that I was carrying around with me, but I had more stats than they did, and more room to use skills than they did.
So I could take more risks.
“Don’t try to be a hero Freddy! Come back if it’s get too much!”
I didn’t have the time or the mental capacity to respond to Uncle Terrance as I stood near the middle point between both branching entrances.
This was the best way I could think of to stem the tide a bit and relieve pressure off of my family.
If no snakes actually got out and past me then they wouldn’t have to fight.
Of course, there were already a few out but they should be able to handle those.
In the meantime, I planted my feet firmly and gripped my spear tightly. The second a snake moved to exit one of the tunnels, my spear would be waiting for it.
Or so I thought.
The main problem was that they weren’t coming one by one. When we first advanced after entering, five snakes came rushing towards us immediately for a total of ten.
Since that, anywhere from one to five snakes would come out all at once, and I was currently trying to hold off about five them slithering towards me with bad intentions.
I activated Ripple Guard as the first of them lunged at me and the snakes didn’t necessarily stumble, as they didn’t have feet, but the energy reached them nonetheless and caused them to falter slightly.
From there I stabbed the closest one to me and activated Surging Step as I did so.
Using it to drive forward at the snakes in the rear, I smashed into them with the body of their fellow snake as a shield. Of course, it wasn’t very pretty and I managed to find myself on the ground as well.
Not wanting to linger on the ground, I quickly tried to spring to my feet only to find a snake bearing down on me.
Fuck!
Swoosh!
The sound of something flying right above me was quickly followed by a wet noise as the snake was punctured by an arrow and blood fell on my face.

Oh my shit it smells bad but I don’t have time to worry about it.
“You alright Freddy?!”
This time it was Uncle Robert who called out to me as he ran up alongside me and helped me to me feet.
I quickly stood and as I wiped some blood away from my eyes, I could see Uncle Terrance using his sword like a damn baseball bat and smashing the flat side into a snake coming for him.
If the situation wasn’t what it was, I would probably laugh at the sight of it.
“Thanks, I’m alright! Good shooting Aunty! Let’s get a move on!”
From there we fought together to push back the snakes around us, before rushing off deeper in the dungeon.
It was dark, and we couldn’t really see all that far ahead, but we ended up running for a couple minutes before slowing down and finally taking stock of what’s around us.
Not much.
“So what’s next Freddy, we find this floor boss thing and kill it right?”
“I hope so Uncle Terrance. This floor could be really long and we might have a few more battles on our hands before we even find the boss.
“Or it could pop out from the ceiling right now. I have no idea. Now realistically, I think it will be at the end of this long path we’re on, but who knows. Let’s just be as ready as possible.”
No more small talk was made after that as everyone was just focused on watching our surroundings.
Honestly it was quite stressful to be on edge the whole time like that, but we managed to keep doing it until we finally saw a change in front of us.
The wide path ended and what we were met with instead was a narrow entry way. One that we couldn’t see beyond of.
Hm. Well If I had to bet all my money on the fact that there was a boss on the other side of this entrance, I’d personally feel pretty safe about it.
I didn’t have to explain that to my family as one look at their faces showed the solemn looks as they thought about what was coming next.
Thankfully, we brought water along, and since nothing was attacking us in the moment, this was probably the only time we would get to take a small break, quench our thirst and catch our breaths.
Once that was done…
“Alright, same formation as before…only Aunty Renee I need you to be very cautious with your shots. They are limited and I don’t know if you’ll have time to pick up any lost ones. And we need to keep our range capabilities for as long as possible.
“Have any of you leveled since entering the Dungeon?”
Turns out all three of them had.
I had gained some XP myself, but it was almost like a drop in the bucket compared to what I needed to get to the next level.
“Okay good, assign whatever stat points you have right now. Every little advantage counts.”
A couple moments passed as they finalized their selectins and dealt with the warmth that came afterwards.
Then I entered and they followed in after me.
What we walked into was a massive room, but I don’t think a single one of us cared about the size of the room.
Instead our eyes were practically glued to the being that was laying down in the center of the room.
A massive snake.
Like truly massive.
It’s body had to be over 20 feet in length, and I had no doubt it was more than a few hundred pounds in weight. No…that thing had to weigh at least ton.
Now how in the fuck where we going to kill that.
“My god…”
Aunt Renee muttered that under her breath and it was like a trigger went off in the room.
Hanging braziers we didn’t notice before, suddenly lit up with fire all around the room in a chain reaction.
It was then followed by a deep rumble as the massive creature began to move from the slumber it seemed to be enjoying.
Shit.
This is bad.
This is very fucking bad.
How the hell where we supposed to kill that.
“Anyone got any bright ideas to kill that thing?”
Uncle Terrance’s question went unanswered as I scanned around the room desperately trying to find a solution to our problem.
I even thought for a second that we should turn back, only to see the entrance we walked into was blocked off.
Dammit I didn’t even hear it happening.
Just as I was about to tell my family about being trapped in here, the snake seemed to finally come to life, as it rose up from the ground and hissed so loudly that it was practically a roar.
Then Uncle Robert yelled out.
“Shoot it Renee! Before it gets going!”
My Aunt didn’t need to be told twice before she let an arrow loose. It flew with purpose and the snake either didn’t care for it or was two big and slow to react to it, and the arrow reached its mark cleanly.
But our fears only grew when we realized the arrow didn’t do a damn thing to the snake except making it mad.
Ah fuck.
