Questions

“So I tried telekinesis.” I was just talking to myself, alone in the room. I didn’t know what to do next. “Maybe super strength?” So, I got up from the bed, grabbed the table, and tried to lift it. Surprisingly, I managed to do it but only by a centimeter. It was heavy but not so much that it was impossible. “So no super strength either.” I y down on the bed again.

A minute or two passed, and I still didn’t know what to do next. My hearing was the same, my vision was the same, my smell was also the same as before, maybe taste? Then I remembered the disgusting taste of water and the perfect deliciousness of the drink James had made me.

“But what kind of super ability is this?” I asked the empty room. “And how can I use it to gain more power?”

Then the door to the room opened and one of the girls walked in. She had brown hair cut just above her shoulders. Like everyone else, she was dressed in ordinary clothes. But the only thing that didn't fit me was her age. She looked like she was barely eighteen. Although I didn't know how things worked in this world. It didn't seem like such a young woman should be working in a pce like this.

"I...I..." The girl stood in the doorway with a frightened expression. "I didn't know you were here. I, I'll come ter." She said and quickly tried to close the door behind her.

"No wait!" I raised my voice a little and the girl froze at that moment. "Is this your room?"

The girl just nodded her head a little.

"Then why would you go away?" I asked, in a softer voice.

"I...I didn't want to bother you." She replied.

"But that's stupid. Come in. I'm Evelyn. And you?" I introduced myself while the girl continued to stand in the doorway.

“My…name is Emily.” She finally entered the room.

“Emily, you say, that’s a nice name.” I smiled and she did too.

“Thank you, you have a nice name too.”

“So tell me a little about yourself, Emily. As you know, I’m new here, so I’d like to get to know you.” I started. Because, what is a better way to find out information than through someone who knows about it. Yes, I could ask Anna or Sofia. But first, I didn’t know where Anna was right now and I wouldn’t know what to ask her without attracting attention. Although my appearance somewhere in the warehouse didn’t help me much. And second, I had the feeling that Sofia didn’t like me very much, even though we had only just met. So I decided to take advantage of this young girl a little.

“I don’t want to talk about myself much.” She gave me an unwanted look as she sat down on her bed.

“Well, if you don’t want to talk about yourself, you don’t have to, everyone has their secrets. So at least tell me something about this pce?”

“I only started working here recently, so I don’t know much yet.” I didn’t really hit it off with this girl. Then it struck me. One thing she could know.

“So you work at the bar, right? What’s it like?” I asked so I could get ready for the evening.

“Working at the bar? I don’t work at the bar. We’re not really allowed to go there.”

“What?” I asked, confused. I didn't understand what she was talking about. “But they give you free drinks there, or not?”

“I don’t know anything about that. I’ve never been there, I just saw it when I went with the madam to see the boss on my first day here.”

“What?” I asked again, even more confused. “So you’ve really never been there?”

  “No.” She answered simply.

“And you’ve never worked at the bar with James?”

“I don’t know who James is.” Emily said while, I, was in shock.

“Huh?” What’s going on? I asked myself. I was starting to have more and more questions. Something didn’t feel right. Something was going on here and I didn’t know what. I needed answers. And there was one person who might have them. So I got out of bed and headed for the door.

“Where are you going?” Emily asked.

  “To ask a few questions.”

I left the room, walked through the hallway, and ended up back in the main room. The girls were still there, but not all of them. I scanned the room and found a redhead sitting on one of the couches. So I headed over to her.

  “Sofia.”

“What do you want?” she asked me grumpily.

“I’d like to ask you something if you don’t mind.” I informed her in a serious voice.

“And what do you want to ask?” She turned to me.

“Do you know the guy who works behind the bar?” I asked directly.

“You mean James? Yes, I know him a little, why?”

“And when you started working here, did you work at the bar with him?” I continued with my questions while ignoring hers.

“Working at the bar? Why would I work at the bar? We practically don’t even go there, Madam won’t let us.” Sofia replied confusedly.

  “And do you know why?”

“What kind of questions are these, Evelyn. You’ve been here for less than an hour and you’re asking questions that I don’t even know how to answer.”

“Madam is usually at the bar.” The oldest of the girls, who was sitting across from Sofia, spoke up. We both looked at her. “I saw her sitting there once during a party when I was looking for her because of dresses and stuff.”

Something was going on here. And no one could give me a clear answer. I had to ask someone else. I thought about it. I didn't know where Anna had gone, Henry might have been in his office but I wasn't sure. And then there was one other person who might have some answers.

"Where are you going?" Sofia asked.

“I’m going to the bar.” And I headed for the exit.

“But you can’t go there.” Sofia said from behind me but I continued as if I hadn’t heard her. I left the main room through the curtain. I found myself in a dark, dimly lit salon again. But I kept going, walking past the tables until I reached the door that Anna and I had used to get here.

I walked over to it and opened it. On the other side was the same huge guy. He just turned and looked at me in surprise.

“Where do you think you’re going, young dy?” he asked me.

“Greg, right? I need to go to the bar. I need to ask James something.” I told him and continued on.

At that moment, his big hand appeared in front of me. “I’m sorry but you can’t go there. Not without permission.”

“Huh? But I really need answers.” I told him angrily.

“I’m sorry but no.” And he stood in front of me, in a way to prevent me from continuing my journey to get what I wanted.

  “But I really need it.”

Greg didn’t answer anymore and just looked at me with a serious face.

“Uhh…okay I’ll go back but could you tell Henr…the boss that I want to talk to him, please.” Again no reaction so I gave up and went back.

I walked through the salon again and entered the main room.

“Did you meet Greg?” Sofia asked ironically with a smile.

“Shut up.” I replied angrily and continued on. Through the hallway to door number six. I opened it and went inside. Emily was still sitting there as if she hadn’t moved.

“So what about the questions?” She asked innocently.

“I don’t want to talk about it.” And I y down on the bed.
