Mild Preparations

  Alpy376

I decided I would make my way towards the marketpce as I thought of what to do, and by the time I arrived I had come to a decision. My next stop was a bookstore. I found one, and when I entered I was greeted by an older human woman from behind a desk.

"Why hello, young dy! How can I help you today?"

"Do you sell any magic tomes here?"

Yep. I was here for magic tomes. The temple's priest had briefly mentioned them when he was teaching me, but supposedly they could be pretty expensive, but one tome will usually contain all elemental spells of a specific rank. Basically, a tier 1 tome contains the 1st tier spells of every attribute. Most normal people would rather just have someone tutor them in magic, but since I can use all elements, they're much more useful to me. The priest said that there are even a couple of tomes containing the ultimate spell, but those are usually considered to be fakes, since nobody aside from the ancient hero Arnagir has ever cast one of these spells.

"Yes, we do. However, we only have of the first two tiers if that's okay."

"Yes that's fine. How much would it cost for both of them?"

"8 gold coins. If you would like I could grab the tomes for you."

  "Thank you, that'd be appreciated."

The clerk left and dissapeared into the maze of bookshelves filling the building.

Tomes are usually fairly expensive to where most people wouldn't buy them, buy that's not the only issue. When learning from another magician, they can give an in depth expnation of how casting the spells feels along with the experience of having done it before. A tome, however, only contains what the spells look like, how the spells work, and the incantations for the spells. They should still work for my purposes though.

The clerk returned with the two books shortly after she left to find them. She set them on the counter and I exchanged them for the price of 8 gold coins.

"Thank you for your purchase and have a wonderful day ma'am."

I left the bookstore with my tomes in hand and began walking back to the inn. Since I have this magic now, I see no reason not to learn it all. Especially the Mind spells, since having those buffs is a major improvement compared to not having them.

When I arrived at the Moon-Fork's increasingly familiar door, I found Luci returning at the same time.

  "Ah, Mira. What good timing."

  "Hm? Why's that?"

"I just got a letter from my brother."

"Huh?" A brother? When did she have one of those? "I didn't know you had any siblings other than Tahli."

"Ah, right. I should probably expin things then. You see, my elder brother, the future king of Pristel, was just away to deal with politics in one of the human nations. That's also why you haven't met him. In his letter he expined that he had just arrived a couple days ago and that he regrets being too te to see us off. He's actually just about the main reason I can be here right now. In elvish society usually the first-born child is the heir, and anyone born ter needs to actually fight for the position unless the first-born decides they don't want it. Brother's been showing s lot of promise towards becoming the next king, so my parents had no issues with me becoming an adventurer. In a way, that kind of makes him responsible for my being here."

"Ah, I see. I was actually thinking of asking you how you got your parents to let you do this. Anyway, what was the letter about?"

"It wasn't much. He wrote that he just returned from his trip and that everything there went smoothly. He also congratuted us on becoming adventurers and asked how I was doing. He also asked if anything happened with the 'absurdly talented and beautiful' woman I left with. That's all there was though. I'm thinking of leaving the stuff I got in our room and going to get lunch. You wanna join me?"

  "Sure."

We dropped off everything we purchased today and left to the pce we ate at yesterday. I ordered the same thing we had st time and Luci did the same.

"So, Mira, I noticed those books you were holding earlier, were they tomes or something?"

"Yep. Sadly the store I went to didn't have any for higher tiers, but these two are good for the first two tiers, so I'll learn as much as I can on the trip."

"That's good. That's actually pretty smart, I guess tomes would be really useful for you. Did you do anything else?"

The waiter arrived with our food and I thanked him as he left before returning to the conversation.

"Well, after you and Rick left the Guild, I went back inside to ask about anyone else who knows light magic, and she directed me to a temple. A priest there had reached 5th tier of Light magic, so he taught me for 10 gold coins. He also tested my magic caps and told me I could use even the 7th tier."

"Really!? I shouldn't even be surprised at this point... But you said 7th tier though didn't you? That would mean that you just casually ended centuries of research and debates over whether or not ultimate magic exists because you wanted to learn a little but more Light magic. Congratutions, I expect nothing less from my amazing party leader."

"Hah..." Sightly embarrassed by her praise, a small sigh of annoyance escaped my lips because of her specific word choice. "Did you really need to say it like that?"

"Of course. I needed to expin to you just how incredible you are. At this point if some kind of diety appeared and said that you were a physical incarnation of the Goddess, I would believe it."

"That- I understand it's a big deal, but all I have is really special magic capabilities. Even if it was never recorded, I'm sure there must've been somebody simir to me at some point I'm time."

"Perhaps, but you're the first case that anbody's ever known about. Really, you're just that special. In the future, I'd be lucky to even say that I've spoken to you before, let alone the fact that you're my friend who I want to be more than friends with."

I rolled my eyes at the not-so-subtle reference to her confession st night. My cheeks were heating up just thinking about it... I decided to end this conversation here.

"Here. Let's just eat now before it gets cold."

  "Okay."

The food was once again amazing, and once finished Luci left to write a letter in response to her brother's while I went to the public bathhouse to bathe. When I got back to the inn, I hung out with Luci until dinner before heading to bed. I took off my equipment and Luci spoke.

"Um, Mira. It might be a little too selfish right now, but I have a question I want to ask you."

"Hm? What is it? Knowing you I'm sure it can't be that selfish."

I noticed her ears and cheeks were beginning to turn a shade of pink.

"Well, um, I was wondering if I could sleep with you again. It's okay if you don't want to..."

"If that's what you want, then I have no reason to refuse. You don't even need to ask."

  "Really? Um, thank you."

We climbed into bed to end the day, and while I didn't know the implications of this yet, I had accidentally told a woman romantically interested in me that she can sleep in my bed whenever she want. Surely that won't cause any issues in the future, right?
