The three of us parted ways outside the Guild, and for my first stop I went back inside to talk to Linda the receptionist again.
"Back so soon? Let me guess, to prepare for your quest you're here to ask if we have anyone else who can teach you Light magic. That right?"
"Close, you actually almost got that. I'd assume that Non was the best Priest in the Guild, since you reccomended him to me, so I'm here to ask of anybody in the city who can teach higher ranked Light magic."
"There is, but if you go to him don't expect your gold to st very long. Here." She took out a slip of paper and wrote something on it. "This is the address. The temple here has a 5th tier Priest, but it's very expensive to hire him to teach you, and a rge majority of mages are capped at 3rd tier, so if you go don't get your hopes us too far."
"What do you mean by capped?" Once again I hear another new term.
"Hm? You don't know? A 'cap' is basically a limit; every mage is capped at a specific tier. Reaching the 2nd tier is next to guaranteed for most mages, but after that they might be capped. It's fairly common for the magic cap to be after the 2nd tier, and many who aren't in that category pteau at the 3rd. It's not too rare for the 4th tier, and the 5th tier is only a little less common than that, but someone who can reach the 6th tier popping up is about a one in ten-million chance. Reaching the 7th or ultimate may not even be possible, it's only told of in ancient legends."
"Oh. Thanks, I'll be going now."
"Then I'll see you tomorrow when I give you the details on your departure."
Next I headed to the location of the temple she told me about. I'm not too worried about my magic cap, I'm already exceptional with my affinities, so being capped at the 3rd tier wouldn't hurt too much. The building was about halfway around the mountain, but after a while I arrived. I climbed the steps to the temple where there was a priestly woman waiting by the doors.
"Good day, ma'am. Do you have any business with the temple today?"
"Yes. I was told there was a Priest here who could teach Light magic yo the 5th tier."
"I see. Do you have an ID of some sort? If so let me see it."
I took out my Guild card and activated it before handing it to her.
"Here."
She examined it for a second then returned it.
"Thank you for your patience, Miss Mira. You may enter. Just go straight down the hall."
"Okay."
The nun opened the door of the temple for me to enter, and I did before continuing down the corridor. I knocked on the door at the end when I reached it and the man on the other side responded.
"Come in!"
I did just that and I what I saw was a neat, organized office with wooden furniture. Of course, that only extended to the desk, chairs, and shelves; everything else was still stone. The dwarven man behind the desk just screamed the word 'priest' - he had short gray hair and he wore a white robe with gold lining. His looks only made me want to be respectful towards him.
"You here to learn Light magic too?"
"Yes sir. That's correct."
"Well, do you at least have an affinity for it?"
"Yes."
"Good. Do you know your cap?"
"I do not."
He reached under his desk and removed a crystal ball simir to the one used when I learned my attributes.
"Okay... before we check that, do you have multiple attributes?"
"Yes."
"How many?"
"...Six."
"..."
"..."
"If you're going to joke around you can leave now. I'm a busy man."
"I'm being serious though..."
"Fine. I don't have time for this... Just put your hand on the ball."
Just like with Freiya, I put one hand on the crystal ball and the Priest used both, and after a second it started filling with light. This time, however, it wasn't changing color. Instead, it slowly filled with white light before quickly fading and restarting. The process repeated six times before stopping. I looked up to the priest's jaw dropping to the floor.
"It's real..."
"Hm?"
"You really weren't lying about your affinities... I'll teach you at a discount, 5 gold coins per spell up through tier 5, being a total of 35 gold coins, unless you already know some."
"I already know though the first three tiers, but what's real?"
"Has anyone told you about ultimate spells? It's said they have the power to destroy entire armies, but only ancient legends tell of people who reach the 7th tier and learn these spells. I'll spare you the details, but 'The Legend of Arnagir' tells of a hero who learns and casts the ultimate Fire spell called Hell on Earth. Nobody has been able to prove if it was real, but there are some who say that a human kingdom far to the north-east has an uninhabitable nd that exists as a result of this spell. At least, until now there hasn't been any evidence of ultimate spells even existing outside of 'fictional' tomes that list their incantations. That being said, now I suddenly have someone walk into my office with not only the attributes of all six elements, but a magic cap at the seventh tier!"
"..."
Seriously!? That just seems too overpowered...
"You said you learned the first three tiers of Light already? I'll just need 10 gold coins and we can begin."
"Right..."
I forgot for a second that I was here to learn Light magic. I handed him the payment he asked for.
"That's it. I'll teach you in the courtyard outside. Follow me."
I followed him and he taught me two more spells and was as shocked as Non with my uncanny ability to learn them my first try. With these spells, I heavily doubt those Shadow creatures will be much trouble. Now I just need to figure out how to spend the rest of my day.
