Chapter 7 – Should I fight?

The archers stepped back and began firing arrows randomly into the air, but since there were so many Fijincotes, they were still managing to hit some of them.

They fell toward the ground like raindrops.

Meanwhile, the swordsmen were jumping and striking down the Fijincotes that got too close, but their numbers were far too great to handle. That was when the mage stepped in.

He used fire magic to kill the Fijincotes and push them back as much as possible. The Fijincotes were afraid of fire.

'But this won't work for long.'

The High Fijincotes that had been in the rear began moving to the front lines. They used the regur Fijincotes as distractions and then flew at high speed straight toward the humans.

That was when the first death happened.

One of the archers was about to fire an arrow when suddenly a stinger was pointed directly at his forehead.

In a matter of seconds, he was face to face with death.

  I couldn't look away.

  I watched everything.

The High Fijincote's stinger pierced straight into his forehead, probably penetrating his brain. It was disgusting and disturbing (for a human like me), but for some reason, I didn't care that much.

'But seriously, isn't his defense way too low!? Sure, he usually stays in the backline, but he's way too weak!'

A stinger shouldn't be able to pierce an adventurer's skull!

"Damn it! Jack is dead! Jack's dead!" one of the two archers shouted in despair.

The swordsmen ignored him, as they were now being attacked from all sides, and the fire magic couldn't handle them all. The old mage had overestimated himself. He couldn't cast rge-scale spells fast enough.

The swordsmen were forced back into a corner together with the archers and the mage.

They stepped backward, swinging their swords wildly.

Some Fijincotes were killed, but the swarm showed no signs of shrinking.

  'They're dead,' I thought.

"Damn it! We have to run!" the same archer shouted, looking toward the exit of the room.

It was dark, but he knew where it was.

This time, I didn't hide, but it didn't seem like he noticed me.

"Don't give up! We're almost there!" the old mage shouted.

This guy is an idiot—a hopeless idiot. Or maybe he's just a suicidal fool who dragged innocent people into this madness. 'Should I help them? No! They're humans.'

Besides, I can't deal with those things.

I could raise my defense to 5,000 and probably wouldn't take any damage, but it's better not to act right now.

  I stayed silent, watching everything.

One of the swordsmen was stung and soon began to succumb to the poison, getting pierced several more times.

Another swordsman had the back of his head pierced and started convulsing immediately after.

One archer had his arm pierced and lost movement in it, becoming useless and hiding behind the st remaining swordsman—their leader.

Aside from those two, only one archer and the mage were left.

Four members of the group were still standing.

"I can't stay here anymore!" the st uninjured archer shouted after the mage cast a rge-scale spell. He took advantage of the distraction to flee.

'Oh, he's pretty fast for an archer.'

He ran in my direction, and then our eyes met.

His eyes were filled with despair and helplessness.

Fijincotes came flying after him—and toward me as well.

So I raised my defense, just in case.

The archer ran past me, ignoring me. For some reason, he trusted that I wouldn't attack him.

The three Fijincotes chasing him attacked me instead.

They struck me three times with their stingers, but they couldn't pierce me. However, I was poisoned. Still, the poison was far too weak to affect me.

'Hehe.' I chuckled and bit one of them, using my Poison Fang skill.

Unfortunately, these little guys have poison resistance, so it wasn't very effective since my skill is still at a low level.

After realizing they couldn't hurt me, they returned to where the remaining humans were.

'Oh… They're dead.' I looked at the humans.

The swordsman leader was lying over the archer's body, and the mage was slumped against the wall, lifeless.

  'They're idiots. Huff~~'

I didn't go after the human who escaped because I don't want to get involved with him. Instead, I waited outside the room until all the monsters returned to their nest. Some of them ate parts of the humans.

  'Terrifying.'

As for the human who fled, he'll probably die anyway.

When everything was silent and the path was clear, I walked up to the mutited bodies of the humans and searched for the map the man had kept in the pouch at his waist.

The pouch was trapped between his body and the archer's, so I increased my strength and shoved his body aside.

When I did, his arm came loose from its socket.

'Urggggh! So disgusting, this is horrible. Holy shit.'

I quickly tore open the pouch and grabbed the map inside. Then I shot a strand of web onto it and attached it to my body so I could leave as fast as possible.

As I was leaving the room, however, I looked up and saw—

  < High Fijincote LV8 >

A giant wasp staring directly at me.

Its wings beat violently, producing a loud buzzing sound.

A few seconds ter, several Fijincotes emerged from the nest and flew straight toward me.

'Ah, shit, shit, shit!' My eight legs started moving, but I'm not fast enough.

Should I increase my speed and run, or raise my defense and endure their attacks while trying to kill them?

Urgh, this is a great opportunity to kill a lot of monsters!

Should I take this chance… or should I run?
