Chapter 26- Investors

Me and four others stand in front of Vincent. The four of us are going on this mission.

"You five will be traveling to the human territories! During this time you will have three stops before coming back." Vincent informs us, "We have three very rich men who are willing to gives us money for their protection to our camp."

Vincent then looks at me. He walks over and grabs my shoulder. He then looks towards the other four.

"This is Caleb. He will be your leader on this trip. You only stop when he says you can stop. Is that clear?" Vincent says.

  "Yes sir." The others shout.

Before we leave for this mission, we have an hour to gather our belongings and say our goodbyes. I first go to my tent. Mark is sitting on his bed.

"Hey Cal! You heading out?" Mark asks.

"Yeah... I'll be back in a few weeks." I tell him.

He stands up and walks over.

"Stay safe man." He says while giving me a hug.

"You too. Don't mess things up with Ann while I'm gone please." I joke.

I grab my knife and sword first. That's all I'm gonna need for now. Vincent has some food for us already packed. I then go over to the library. I walk around the shelves and over to the tables. Ann and Wick both sit at a table. I walk over to them.

"Hey guys. What're you doing?" I ask them.

"Just sitting around, are you heading out?" Wick says.

"Yeah, it'll be a quick mission though." I tell them.

Wick stands up and gives me a quick hug. He then sits back down.

"Ann? What about you. huh?" I chuckle.

She stands up and gives a side hug.

"When I get back, you and Mark better be, y'know." I joke.

She gives me a light punch on the shoulder and sits down.

"See ya." I say and begin walking out.

"Bye, bring us back something." Ann says.

I walk out of the library. Now I just have to say bye to Mal. I would talk to Reed but he left for a mission st night. Vincent won't tell me what it is. Maybe I'll learn when he gets back.

I reach the training grounds. Mal is practicing against Marty. They've seem to have bonded a lot recently.

  "Mal! Marty!" I yell.

They both turn towards me. Marty waves and I walk over to them.

  "You leaving already?" Marty asks.

"Yeah. But I'll be back!" I say.

"Is the trainer coming before or after I'm back?" I ask Marty.

"Before. But I'll keep Mal safe from them." Marty jokes.

I give Marty a hug and look over at Mal.

"Bye Mal. I can't wait to see how strong you are when I get back." I tell her.

  She gives me a smile.

"I'll be stronger than you, that is a guarantee." She says.

  "Sure kid." I joke.

I walk off and head over to Vincent's tent. He's standing outside at the door.

  "You ready?" He asks me.

"Yeah! I've got everything I need." I tell him.

"Great. I've got a few things I need to discuss with you before you leave." He says.

  "What's up?" I ask.

He grabs me by the arm and pulls me into his tent.

"The king of the highnds has a holy knight in one of your stops." He says.

  "Okay... And?"

He sps his head. He walks over to his bookshelf and gives me a map. It's a map of Erin.

"Do you see a highnds here?" He asks.

"No?" I say unsure of where he's going.

"The highnds royalty may be working with our king." He says, "If the holy knight learns of your intentions, she'll kill you on the spot. Grab the investor and leave the city as soon as possible. Got it?"

  "Got it!" I say.

He leaves the tent and I follow him. We reach a rge carriage. The four people who are going on this mission with me are standing outside of it. Once they see us, they hop into the carriage. This one will takes us to our first destination, after that we'll need to buy our own in the first stop. I hop into the carriage.

"Bye man." I say to Vincent.

He gives me a nod and walks over to the driver. Then the carriage begins to move.

"Why is our leader a kid." One of the men says.

I look over at him. He's not a rge man, but he's still bigger than me. He doesn't look too strong. I could probably beat him.

"Don't say that Derick!" One says.

They look over at me and holds their hand out.

"Thanks." I say while shaking his hand, "I'm Caleb, I hope to be a good enough leader for you."

"I'm Marlin! IT's good to meet you." He says.

I sit back in my seat. The other three are quite. The four of them all have bck hair and blue eyes. Marlin is a good sized man and so far he seems like the nice one. Derrick is right there in between me and Marlin's size.

"What're your names?" I ask the other two.

"I'm Henry." One of them says, they point over at the st one, "This is Terry."

"Nice to meet the two of you." I say.

  Derrick looks at me.

"What kind of retionship do you have with the leaders?" He asks.

"I'm just a soldier to them." I tell Derrick.

He stares at me and looks away.

"I don't believe it." I hear him mutter.

He clearly is gonna be hard to work with. Thinking about it now, why did they pick me to lead this mission? Maybe it's another test? Or Vincent thinks I'm stronger than I really am. Maybe I just give off good leader vibes.

We've already been on the road for a day. We finally reached the Orc territory's border.

"Hey Caleb... Before we get through the border can we stop for a little?" Marlin asks.

"Sure, I guess a stop could be nice." I agree.

I lean over to the driver.

"Hey, stop for a little." I tell them.

He moves off to the side of the road and stops. We all hop out. I can see Derrick eyeing me from the corner of my eye. I don't know what his problem is. It seems these four know each other already. I'm the odd one out here. I start to head back to the carriage when Derrick stops me.

"I want to fight! Winner gets to be leader." He says.

Shit! Only a day in we have problems. If I don't fight him it'll show weakness. But also if I lose I give up leadership. Y'know what? I fight him. I'm sure of my capabilities as leader anyways. This guy is kind of annoying though. I just want his mission to be done already!

  "Sure, why not?" I chuckle.

We luckily stopped on ft nd. Perfect for a little spar. We both line up and pull out our weapons. Derrick looks a lot more serious about this than I am. His eyes have a strong determination in them. Marlin starts our fight. Derrick rushes me, he's slower than he looks. He gets up close to me and pulls his sword over his shoulder. Before he can swing, I give him a left hook to the face. He stutters back from this, I flip my sword over to the ft part and whack him in the side of the face.

"That was... Kind of pathetic dude!" I ugh

Derrick's face gets red like a tomato. He storms off to the carriage. If this is the cocky guy in the group how weak are these people? This may be a harder mission than I first thought it'd be.
