The death of the twin makes the Kara situation so much harder. It's starting to frighten me how much she wants me dead. I want to ignore it, but recent events have made it impossible. We still had more information to get out of the twin. But we have to move with the group. As we begin walking I notice Mark in my group. I knew he wasn't with the others but it would've been nice if he told me he was going with me.
I head over to him. He's sitting in a supply cart alone. I climb up into the cart. His body looks stiff, he hold his head down and has poor posture.
"Hey, man. Something happen?" I ask him.
He looks over at me. He's quite for a long moment but eventually talks to me.
"Yeah, I guess things have changed. A few weeks ago I was working in a nice shop, now the man who basically raised me killed himself. Then after that the people who treated me like their younger brother want me dead." He says.
I can't feel pity for him. I cause his trauma. I ruined his life if I'm being real. He looks over at me and taps me on the shoulder.
"Caleb... It's fine, you didn't cause this." He tells me, "Anyone who became a hero would've had the same troubles. Don't feel bad for me."
I've know mark for only a month and a half, yet he still doesn't hate me for what I've done. As we talk Vincent calls me over. I hop out of the cart and go over to where Vincent is. He's walking by a cart full of people we had captured.
"Does something look off about those guys?" He asks.
I look over at our prisoners and the all look sickly. Some of them have their eyes closed while others are staring at the ground. A smell of rot is coming from the cart.
"What the hell?" I say.
"We say one pop a poison bottle, you think the others follow?" Vincent asks.
"Maybe they pnned on it? It could've been a back up pn." I tell him.
He sends me away, I don't move much closer before I see two guys sitting with Mark. I feel as if I've see these men before but it's hard to tell. I walk closer to the cart to see what they could be saying.
"Come on Mark! You know Kara doesn't want to hurt you." One of the men says.
I recognize the voice, it was the people talking in the tent the other night. They must be working for Kara. I run towards Vincent.
"Vincent! There's people... There's spies here. They're talking to Mark right now." I say, "They were talking about working for Kara!"
Vincent's eyes widen. He start running towards the cart, I follow him. The two people are gone by the time we get there. I hop in the cart.
"Mark... Mark what happened?" I ask.
He holds his head down. I bend down to look at him. His face looks dead. He resembles the people that ate the poison. He starts to smell horrible. I look over at Vincent.
"What?" He asks.
"Poison... He's been poisoned!" I yell.
We luckily have a doctor in our group. He's able to empty the poison from his body but it'll leave permanent effects on him. Not physical but mental. It'll be as if he's drunk at all times. I go sit down in a nearby cart. The doctor continues to examine him for any other need treatments.
Time passes slow, all I can think about is those guys with Mark. Were they the ones who poisoned him. They must've talked to him about joining them but he declined, so they poison him. If they have on for Mark do they have enough for everyone? What if they poison us while we sleep? They completely disappeared after they poisoned Mark. They could be anywhere. But it's te at night already. I sleep in the cart I've been ying on.
We reach our first stop by morning. Every group is moving on different paths but are we'll all be in the same pce by the end. Our stop is to tell some allied vilges about our move. Vincent still hasn't told me about our final destination. I'm guessing we're gonna be staying in the giant territory. Kara may be watching us right now. Maybe tomorrow she'll slit my throat, or take Vincent hostage.
We move from the vilge and out onto the road again. I can say I don't miss this part of traveling. Always being on the road sucks. To pass the time I walk around the group and talk to random soldiers. A lot of people are in the revolutionary army because the king had hurt them or their family. Most of the revolutionaries are human, the orcs are too scared of people to fight back and giants already lost a majority of their popution.
This world has changed me, I feel number. I guess I didn't realize it until now. We're battling some bandits that tried to rob us. When I arrived I don't think I'd have the guts to watch a man be cut down, now I'm the one doing it. A bunch of low life bandits really aren't a problem, besides they deserve what happens to them. They do kill and steal for a living, and who knows. Some might be working with Kara.
A day and a half of travelling ter we reach the other groups. We can now set up camp. I've always wondered how rge spells work, I've only seen small ones in action. Now I get to see an invisible barrier being made. One of the mages puts a blue stone on the ground. Around three mages surround the stone and begin speaking in another nguage. Then suddenly a blue beam flies into the sky. It reaches a good thirty feet high before it peels down into a ball shape. The spells moves fast and reaches the ground. After that it seemingly disappears. We're now invisible.
Marty makes me, Ann, Reed, Wick, and Mal train while the other set up the camp. Today is more spars. Since we have an odd number Marty will go against me. Ann goes against Reed, while Wick goes against Mal. The first match is Ann versus Reed. It's a lot better of a fight than I ever thought. Magic really is something special. Each spell one sends out the other counters with another completely different one. It goes on for a good while before Reed sends a rge fireball at Ann. It nds ending the battle after what felt like forever.
"Reed, that was epic!" I say to him.
He looks proud of himself. I can see his posture and mood get a lot better after the win.
"Thanks, maybe next time I can finally beat you." Reed tells me.
Next up is Wick against Mal. It's not a very fair fight but we're doing what we have to. The fight starts of with Wick making the first move. Wick has a huge range advantage with his spear. But Mal does have good speed with her small size. Reed still easily beats her but she almost got a few hits off. Now it's finally me against Marty. Reed starts the count down.
"Three! Two! One!" Reed yells.
Marty moves fast. I just barely dodge a ssh from. He goes towards my vitals, which is different from others I've went against. Most people swing with force, but he has strategy. The position of his attacks make it hard to block. In the end he overwhelms me and gets a hit off. It was a huge loss, I didn't even get a single attack off.
"Maybe a month isn't enough time." Marty jokes.
