Chapter 15: Golden Apple

The faint glow flowing across the surface of the golden apple hadn't faded yet, and he could still feel the strange warmth lingering on his fingertips when a familiar sound of air being torn reached his ears.

It was the sound of the air being torn apart as Diana flew, and her speed was more urgent than any time she had rushed back to the training ground before.

Viktor's heart tightened, and his hand subconsciously gripped the golden apple tighter. The greed awakened by the magic had not completely faded, and a brutal thought quickly emerged.

'Hide this thing. Keep it for yourself.'

But as soon as that thought appeared, Viktor forcefully suppressed it.

He gnced at the bck smoke still lingering on the ground at the street corner and remembered how Diana had patiently taught him to control his power these past few days.

Earth was not Viltrum, and possessing and killing wouldn't solve all problems. In fact, it would destroy the peaceful situation he had just begun to find.

Moreover, Diana still had her Lasso of Truth tied around her waist. It wasn't worth lying over a golden apple whose effects were still unclear.

He took a deep breath, loosening his slightly trembling fingers, and stood silently in pce while waiting.

The red figure arrived in an instant.

Diana nded in front of him, and her gaze immediately locked onto the golden apple in his hand. Her brows furrowed tightly, and the atmosphere around her suddenly grew heavy as she spoke in a deep voice.

"Eris, the Goddess of Strife, has she been here?"

  He nodded and spoke briefly.

"A bald woman with green eyes showed me this apple, and then I lost control for a moment. I broke her spine, and she turned into bck smoke and vanished."

He left out the details, just stating the core of what happened. Diana sighed helplessly upon hearing this, her eyes showing both understanding and a hint of heaviness.

"It seems you still have a long way to go to completely get rid of your habit of violence and destruction."

Her gaze fell on the traces of bck smoke at the street corner.

"You killed her body here in the human world, not her true form."

Viktor's eyes showed a trace of quiet frustration. He killed her, but he didn't realize she wasn't completely gone.

Even though it was the other person who started the trouble, it was clear she wasn't someone who would be reasonable. He raised the golden apple in his hand, his tone carrying a hint of awkward curiosity.

"This thing... is it a treasure?"

The desire that had overwhelmed his senses earlier made him instinctively feel that this apple was not simple.

"The golden apple itself isn't rare in the divine realm."

  Diana expined.

"Gods under Zeus often use golden apples to prolong their lives and stabilize their soul vitality. However, Erish's apple is different. It's her personal divine artifact."

  Diana's tone became serious.

"In addition to its basic effects, it can also stir the deepest desires within all living beings, awakening envy and a thirst for conflict. There have been several instances where divine disputes and mortals have been instigated by it."

Diana paused for a moment before adding:

"More importantly, Eris won't vanish just because her mortal body in the human world was destroyed. And once she is resurrected in the divine realm, the evil magic on this golden apple will also be revived."

He was taken aback, and his hand holding the golden apple rexed a little. This wasn't a treasure worth fighting for but a ticking time bomb that could go off again at any moment.

As for the apple's power to extend life, it wouldn't attract him, who already has a long lifespan. The intense possessiveness he had felt earlier was merely the lure and illusion of magic.

Diana looked at the legendary golden apple and, for a moment, felt a bit of a headache.

Even though she should advise him to hand the golden apple over to the Justice League for safekeeping, the current Justice League didn't seem to have many good ways to handle the wrath of a god.

The Justice League, which had only been established for two years, hadn't yet had the time to recruit many members, and as of now, the only heroes in the entire league connected to magic were herself and Shazam.

Shazam often gave off an impression of immaturity and unreliability in his words and actions, even Batman mentioned that Shazam had caused several incidents involving magical artifacts going missing in his Fawcett City.

Although nothing major had happened in the end, leaving a magical artifact that could possibly start World War III with Shazam for safekeeping clearly wasn't a great idea.

As for Diana herself, she was indeed closely connected to magic, but most of her abilities came from the divine blessings of her bloodline and the artifacts bestowed upon her by the gods.

She could use some small magical tricks, but she couldn't compare to Eris, the Goddess of Strife, much less suppress an apple capable of causing a divine war.

By the way, how did this kid defeat the Goddess of Strife?

"Perhaps you should hand it over to the Justice League. This isn't something you should be dealing with..."

"No, we can't hand it over to the Justice League."

Just as Diana was about to firmly take responsibility and try to convince him, Viktor opened his eyes and immediately rejected her suggestion.

"Ms. Prince, you were silent for a full three seconds just now. If you truly believed that the Justice League currently had the capability to handle this apple, you would have spoken up immediately."

He looked at the golden glow on the surface of the apple as it shimmered in the sunlight, deep in thought.

"We should first understand why this happened."

"The Goddess of Strife wouldn't just casually pull out such a valuable artifact to influence an ordinary person. The fact that she wanted to use the golden apple to make me lose control means that she sees something in me that caught her attention."

Diana's worried face slowly turned to surprise as he expined everything.

"In other words, from the perspective of the gods, or rather, those who use magic, there must be something special about me."

Diana felt a little embarrassed. She was also a demigoddess, but at that moment, she couldn't offer any effective advice.

"I've already offended the Goddess of Strife, and whether I want to or not, if we hand this apple over to the Justice League, it means that a group of people with superpowers will become targets for her. This isn't something that can be easily taken on by the 'responsibility of heroes,' Ms. Prince."

He didn't say anything further because everything was already clear.

If Superman and The Fsh were affected by the Goddess of Strife's magic, the consequences would be unimaginable. Moreover, the Justice League was still in a position where the public didn't fully trust them.

Even though they had the means to handle things, if even one or a few of their heroes were influenced for a short time and caused trouble, the public retions disaster that followed would be catastrophic.

  "Wow."

Diana crossed her arms. She hadn't been particurly curious about Viktor's background, and deep down, she mostly viewed his request as just another daily task for the Justice League.

"You and Shazam are truly opposites. By the way, is it true that you're only fourteen, like Bruce said?"

He smiled and stuffed the golden apple into his pocket.

"If I really thought like a normal fourteen-year-old, then both now and in the future, I would just be another conqueror from Viltrum."

  Diana froze.

  A conqueror?

  What did that mean?

However, Viktor had already taken off into the air. He had originally pnned to go out shopping for some fruit today, but this mess had ruined his mood.

  "Wait, what's your pn now?"

Diana couldn't shake the feeling that this kid cked a certain respect for adults, but she gritted her teeth and followed him into the sky.

"The Justice League must have a list, right? Don't you actively collect information on global anomalies or dangerous individuals and keep track of them?"

He honestly said, "The Justice League doesn't have any experts. We can actively look for them. By the way, Ms. Prince, do you really not know any magic users on Earth?"

  Diana suddenly understood.

They needed to talk to Batman!
