Happy, yet with aching feet, Luna y in bed. The faint light of the waning moon shone softly through the window. It had been a day that was both beautiful and terrible at the same time. She had swum through an ocean of emotions today, an ocean whose waves had threatened to swallow her forever, but in the end, light and hope had triumphed.
Slowly, she climbed out of bed and sat on the windowsill. It was already deep into the night and everything was silent; only the faint ticking of the clock in the living room reached her.A fluttery sensation spread through her body. But this time, it was a pleasant feeling, almost as if hundreds of butterflies were dancing in her stomach; it tingled so much.
"My House, my beautiful new House," she whispered softly. Her eyes sparkled with happiness and anticipation for the new things yet to come.
"I wonder what the boys and girls in Hufflepuff will be like," she asked herself, gazing dreamily into the deep blue night sky.
The sudden growl of her stomach broke the silence of her room. Immediately, the pte of candied strawberries, grapes, cherries, and apples that Menie had pced on the living room table for dinner drifted through Luna's mind. With quiet steps, she moved toward the door. Carefully, making sure not to make a sound, she opened the door and peered into the living room.
ll was quiet; only the soft breathing of Menie, who was sleeping on the magically enrged sofa, could be heard. Quietly, Luna steered toward the table. To her great joy, the pte was still there. Greedily, she grabbed a candied cherry and popped it into her mouth.
"Heavenly," she thought to herself, when suddenly a cry rang out behind her.
"By Merlin... Luna, are you mad, scaring me like that? Standing there like a ghost in your white nightgown right in front of my sofa... honestly!", Menie grumbled to herself.
Luna, who had nearly choked on her cherry, apologized meekly.
"I’m sorry, I didn't mean to startle you... I thought you were already asleep... well, and because I had such a craving for the candied fruits, I crept very quietly to the table."
A moment ter, Luna had a pillow thrown right into her face.
"Oh, I like pillow fights," she said, immediately grabbing a pillow from the floor and hurling it in Menie’s direction. And so, a wild back-and-forth began, accompanied by the loud ughter of them both. Until finally, completely exhausted and out of breath, they sank onto the sofa. And strangely, as they y there, a sense of familiarity settled between them, just as if they had known each other for ages... just as if they were sisters.
All at once, Menie grabbed the pte of candied fruits and took a hearty bite of a candied apple. Luna followed suit, biting into an apple with relish. They y together on the sofa for a long time, sharing stories of their lives until they finally drifted off to sleep.
The loud ringing of the arm clock eventually jolted them both awake. With a flick of her wand, Menie silenced the clock. Tiredly, Luna blinked at Menie, who looked just as weary.
"I know, I’d love to stay in bed too, but we have things to do today," Menie muttered, slowly getting up.
"And what exactly do we have to do?", Luna asked curiously.
"Well, I thought we would Apparate to Diagon Alley this afternoon to finally get you a new wand, not to mention your school supplies."
"Oh, really?", Excitedly, Luna jumped up and hopped toward the bathroom to freshen up.
There was no breakfast that morning for once, as both were still far too full from their nocturnal snacking spree. With a steaming cup of coffee, they made themselves comfortable on the sofa. Once they had finished drinking, Menie suddenly waved her wand, and an old gramophone came floating out of one of the cabinets, sinking slowly onto the living room table. With another flick, a beautiful song began to py from the gramophone.
Menie stood up and began to wave her wand like a conductor. Suddenly, a feather duster appeared and started eagerly dusting the cabinets; from the bathroom came a bucket filled with water, and a mop that had been standing in the corner moved dancingly toward the bucket. With a loud spsh, the head of the mop disappeared into the water, only to begin mopping the floor immediately afterward.Fascinated, Luna watched the spectacle and began to move slowly to the beat of the music. Luna didn't know the song or the singer, but what she sang was beautiful.
A Breath of Life A breath of life A timeless beat Forever lingering, never to fade Within eternity's retreat Gestures of love Can change the world's face Darkness will vanish and die When light fills the hollow space As long as the earth Around the sun will spin And as long as the sea Is moved by the moon within We are conducted By the rhythm of time Words of truth A soul’s inner might Finite is the depth below Endless is the one who created light Nothing is fleeting Nothing, only time Until the end reaches its beginning In a cycle sublime As long as the earth Around the sun will spin And as long as the sea Is moved by the moon within We are conducted By the rhythm of time
Without a second thought, Luna had stood up and begun to spin around her own axis, her hands waving back and forth, a sight so whimsical it drew a soft ugh from Menie.
The st time she had danced so lightheartedly had been at Bill and Fleur’s wedding, an occasion that had been so abruptly shattered by the Death Eaters. She couldn't quite expin what had suddenly come over her, but she began to let herself drift with the sound of the song. Under Menie’s astonished gaze, she danced through the entire living room, completely lost in her imagination. Only when the final notes of the song faded away did she open her eyes again, coming to a halt with a dreamy smile on her face.
"I never knew you liked to dance so much."
"Hmm... well, I never used to dance before... I don't know what came over me either," Luna replied shyly, her gaze lowered.
"Oh, Luna, there’s no need to be ashamed... look at it this way: you’ve just discovered a new hobby. And if you’d like, you’re welcome to keep the gramophone in your room... what do you say?"
I’d love to!", Luna burst out, her face beaming with joy. When the work was finally done, they both got ready for Diagon Alley. Luna was more than excited for the day ahead and for all the new and wonderful things it would bring...
