  Chapter 7: Departure and Arrival

  <><><>

Three days ter, I am ready. Before saying goodbye, I take one st shit. The toilet is way more bearable than before, by the way. It's an idea that I had approximately two years ago. I thought: 'Why not create a potion that would dissolve any waste?' And so I asked my Mom, and after understanding the purpose, she happily developed it.

The result was a terrifying acid that was capable of dissolving dead organic matter within seconds. Thankfully, this potion was strictly limited to dead matter. Alive matter and non-organic objects were simply ignored by the potion, making it behave like water toward them. This was a testament to how good Mom's alchemy really was. I know how it works now, but coming up with such a concoction is still way beyond my capabilities.

Anyway. After taking my shit and moving anything important into my subdimension, a spell that works like an inventory and is used by practically every at least half-decent mage, I finally left home under the nagging of Mom and the encouragement of Dad.

The fact that the subdimension could be used by nearly every half-decent mage seemed utterly astounding when I first remembered the setting, given the enormous Magic Power cost space-reted spells usually have. Then, when I tried the spell myself, I was again utterly surprised by how little Magic power was actually used. I used so little that I could open the subdimension at least a hundred times until my Magic Power ran out.

When compared to my space dispcement spell, a spell that should require way less magic power, but could still only be used twenty times with my Magic Power back then, it was very cheap.

Later, I noticed that this weird Magic Power cost not only applies to subdimension magic. In general, many spells should use up way more Magic Power. After cross-checking, I came to a conclusion. Spells that were often used cost less Magic Power.

After some pondering, I made two hypotheses. The first idea was that the goddesses had their hands in this, possibly to strengthen their race. The second idea was that when using magic, one instinctively made a wish to need less Magic Power to power the spells. Then this wish could manifest as a spell.

Both options were possible. However, I was leaning toward the second, as in the game, practically every character used subdimension magic without regard for the Magic Power cost.

While I reminisce, Mom and Dad shout after me.

"Make sure you always eat enough! And always get enough sleep! Don't forget to brush your teeth! Always stay safe! Don't..." Mom shouted.

"I'm sure you do well! Show them what you're made of! Don't embarrass your Dad! You'll do just fine..." Dad encouraged.

And now I've been on this journey for ten hours. I mean, I could've used flight magic to fly to my destination within half an hour at most, but I thought I would enjoy the scenery. And who knows? Maybe I'll encounter some cliches, like a carriage being attacked.

Now that it's almost dark, I decide to make a stop. After all, while I could use magic to still see as clearly as during the day, my mom did tell me to get enough sleep. And I really want to experience camping outdoors.

I take out the tent from my subdimension, which was apparently used by my dad when he was an adventurer. He told me to take good care of it, so I will. I cast a spell to automatically rebound anything that attacks within one meter of the tent. It will also wake me up if too much force is exerted on the barrier and it is on the verge of breaking.

I pour all my Magic Power into the spell before going into the tent to sleep. My first outdoor experience in this world! I'm so excited that I can't sleep, not that it matters, since I exert all my Mental Power before going to sleep. It's been a ritual ever since my Mana Infusion. At first, it just sorta happened since I was training my Magic Power control. However, I soon noticed that my maximum Mental Power increases after using Mental Power, just like my Magic Power.

As for how I use it up? At first, I would control my Magic Power through it. Later, I found a better way. You see, the only way to manipute Mana is through Mental Power. Unfortunately, the tter disperses if it leaves the body, making it impossible to absorb outside Mana, even tho there is always some in our surroundings. However, before my Mental Power leaves, I can still leave an instruction on it. Then, if I'm lucky, it will hit some Mana before dissipating. The instruction will make the Mana enter my body.

It is actually the second reason my Magic Power capacity grew so fast. The downside of this method is that it consumes an immense amount of Mental Power. Any Mental Power that leaves the body is basically forfeit. Soon I sleep deeply.

The next morning, I wake up in full spirits. After walking another five hours, I reach my destination. Bruk. It is considered a small city in Pocket Heroines. In fact, it's barely big enough to appear on the map of the game. At the same time, it is the closest city to my home. I pn to live here for a few days or weeks to get accustomed to being an adventurer.

As I reach the gate, I'm stopped by a guard.

"Hey, little Missy! Haven't seen you around here. Can I see your identification?"

In this world, there are several means of identification. However, the easiest way is always to get registered in the Adventurers Guild. Once you've registered, you can enter and leave the city free of charge. Once you've reached C-Rank, you can enter and leave any town or city free of charge. A big reason why many merchants are also C-Rank adventurers.

"I still don't have an identification. I just left my vilge yesterday. How much is the entrance fee?"

"You've travelled here alone? What are your parents doing?"

"I told them I wanted to go adventuring, so they had no choice but to let me go."

  "No choice? What'cha mean?"

"I'm simply stronger than them," I shrug.

"Hahaha, that's an amusing one. In that case, five Mon please."

Mon is this world's currency. One Mon equals approximately one dolr. Also, a very creative name for a currency, I know.

"Sure, here you go." I take 5 bronze coins from my subdimension.

"A subdimension? That's rare 'round these parts. I'm starting to believe your story."

"So, where is the Adventurer Guild?"

"You just have to follow the main street for a bit until you see a building with a sword image above the entrance."

  "Oh, I see. Thanks."

  "No problem."

I enter the city, and my eyes wander around. There is a small path following the city wall. Furthermore, a wide street goes straight through the town to the gate on the other side. This must be the main street he mentioned.

Along the main street, wooden buildings are lined up. A smith, a leatherworker and several other professions with connections to adventuring occupy these buildings. It seems like this is the adventurer's exit. It makes sense, given that the forest is in this direction. On the pins in the other direction, there really isn't anything noteworthy to hunt.

Two minutes of walking ter, I reach the building the guard spoke of. A giant building with two floors and a big entrance. Above the entrance, a big sword is depicted. This is the universal sign for the Adventurer's Guild. No matter which city, if you find a building with such a sword, then it is the Adventurer's Guild.

I enter and arrive at a big hall. On the left, there is a big bulletin board with all the quests. In front, there is a counter with a guild receptionist sitting there. On the right, there are several tables and stairs. This part of the guild serves as a bar. In the back, there are some corridors that I can't see where they lead to.

  I go to the receptionist.

"Hello, how can I help you?" the dy asks, smiling probably the thousandth time today.

  "I want to register."

At this moment, a voice interrupts.

"Ya want to register, ya little twerp? Ya're a hundred years too early!"

As I turn around, I see a man covered in muscles with a greatsword on his back.

"Thanks for the advice, but I've got what it takes. Additionally, please note that some individuals require this income to sustain themselves. You're not doing them a favour by stopping them. Every person has their own reason for registering, possibly even just for the identification, and I highly doubt there would be someone stupid enough to make light of this job. If there is, then that's their problem, and your stupid meddling won't change their mind."

Yeah, I just kinda assume that he is trying to help me here. Many around us look at him with approving gnces. The kind one makes after seeing somebody do something good.

I turn back to the guild receptionist and ask: "Can we continue?"

She snaps out of her daze, gnces at the man behind me, smiles a smile that seems more genuine now, and says: "Sure."
