Chapter 1: Reincarnation

Chapter 1: ReincarnationPocket Heroines (PH) is a harem otome game with millions of pyers. In fact, in terms of pyer base, it surpasses any other otome games by a considerable margin. But what drives pyers to py this game?

If you ask any pyer whether they like the story, then you'll get weirded-out looks. It is way more generic than any and all stories:

The protagonist Bob loses his home and family to demons. He swears revenge. To get stronger, he enrols on the Ifrit academy, an academy of magic and swordsmanship. There, he meets the heroines aside from the main heroine, Generica, with whom he grew up. In the end, they fall in love and, as a team of five, defeat the demon king, avenging Bob’s family and friends. Then, since polygamy is allowed there, he lives with his four wives happily ever after.

Indeed. From the seven heroines that exist in this game, Bob is capable of charming four on each game run. However, whether it can be called smart, the developers included a feature where the ending differs for every combination of heroines. This means that there are 35 different endings.

This zy way of expanding the game resulted in the developers being scorned by the pyer base.

However, if it's not the story and also not the heroines with their simirly generic looks and backstories, then what is it that drives the pyers so mad about this game?

The answer is the combat system. In no other game, otome or even PvP, is the combat system this fun. The vast majority of the pyer base is simply entranced by the combat system. In fact, almost every pyer is hoping for a multipyer mode, where they can py against other pyers.

The combat system is a 3D fight in a circur boundary. You can dodge, block, parry, fire magic or attack with your sword. Furthermore, you have complete freedom of movement. That alone is not revolutionary. However, it comes with several difficulty levels. As the difficulty increases, the amount of control you have over your character also increases. Ultimately, you can even choose which foot touches the ground first when dodging.

Additionally, there are always several different ways to block enemy attacks. You can block with your shield, sword, or invoke a magic to block the attack. Magic is done by movements with your mouse, and is therefore very simir to Harry Potter.

Why am I expining this to you, you ask? Well, I've just done a feat, said to be impossible in the game's community. When you complete the game, you have the option to either completely reset the game or py another route, in which case the game would reset as well. However, the route you just pyed would become unavaible to you, and the fights would become slightly more difficult through better AI and higher enemy stats.

Considering there are 35 routes and the difficulty ramps up more and more, the more routes you complete, even after five years since the game started, nobody has ever beaten every route through this method.

And guess what?! I just did it! I dedicated five years of my life to this shit! LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO!

Right now, I'm jumping around in the living room because of sheer ecstasy. After half an hour, I finally calm down enough to look at the screen and notice the third option that was never there before.

Curiously, I get closer, my heart still pumping from the physical activity just now. There, I see the third option: "Receive Reward". Clicking on it, the screen changes, and a woman appears. She's not any of the seven heroines, and yet, she is a woman that I know very well. She is one of the seven goddesses of PH.

In PH, according to lore, every heroine is connected to a goddess. That is why they are so powerful. Powerful enough to even contend with Bob when working together. Bob himself is the wishes of humanity manifested as a human. In fact, magic works mainly through wishes, and so Bob could be considered a product of magic, solely to defeat the demon lord.

Anyway, I'm digressing. The goddess, who is the main goddess and corresponds to Generica, looks up and straight into my eyes. Startled, I jump back, yet even then, the goddess calmly follows my eyes, maintaining eye contact.

Then I'm surprised once again, as the goddess does a literal fourth wall break and turns from 2D to 3D. "Congratutions." A melodious voice breaks through the shocked silence, but does little to calm my unease.

"You have completed the game, and therefore allowed us to win a bet against the dark goddess, making sure she never interferes with our world again. For that, you have our utmost gratitude."

Hearing that, I immediately understand what is going on. It seems like the seven goddesses made a bet with the dark goddess about whether anybody could beat the game on every route. According to the game's lore, the dark goddess is always connected to the demon lord. So, by making the dark goddess unable to interfere with the world, the bet effectively prevents the spawning of another demon lord.

Coming to that conclusion, I suddenly remember how I am supposed to feel scared by her suddenly coming out of the computer. However, my excitement and adrenaline overrule the fear, and I look at her before asking:

"Are you real? Does that mean the game world really exists? Also, are you one of those devs who are cursed and praised at the same time?"

The goddess is first surprised by my acceptance of the situation, before answering my questions one by one:

"Currently, I communicate with you through a projection. However, I exist as a real physical entity. Simirly, the game world exists as you know it in physical form. However, only the game world from PH and yes, I can be considered one of the devs."

"So will you personally give me my reward?" I ask her.

"Yes. I will fulfil one wish of yours."

  "Then reincarnate me into PH."

"Okay," she answers with a smile, before I start losing consciousness.

Hey, hey, hey! Shouldn't I now choose my specs and everything?!
