Arc II - Chapter I - Episode VIII: "Rikito vs. Rayon!"

  Lyte of Utopia

  Arc II: “Universal Threat”

  Chapter I: “Cosmic Tournament”

  Episode VIII: “Rikito vs. Rayon!”

“And let the final match of round one—begin!”

“Hmph. I’m not going to let you transform!”

Rayon unleashed a powerful silver aura with lightning, and he rushed Rikito as soon as the match started.

“What is that!?” Akira asked Darc.

“Heh, it’s his new power. He finished his training with the headmaster, and his potential has been completely unlocked. This is his Spirit Bloom!”

“Impressive,” Rikito said, “But not enough.”

Rikito blocked him using his Demon Pressure.

  “W-what!?”

“Now look, Akira!” Rikito pointed at him in the benches.

“I told you, I can do whatever you can do!”

Rikito transformed, amplifying his body with Spirit Resonance.

I’m close! Even if it’s not the same as his Utopic Spirit Resonance, I can still use Spirit Resonance simultaneously with my Utopic powers. I’ll be able to do that too soon—that Soul Resonance.

Rayon swiftly Aether-Skipped around the stage, looking for an opening to blitz Rikito.

“Too slow,” Rikito said as he dodged every strike that Rayon threw at him.

  “Is that so?” Rayon smirked.

He vanished from Rikito’s sight for a split second.

  “Aether-Skip: Chain Feint!”

With a flurry of Aether-Skips, he was able to catch Rikito off guard.

After getting in close, he launched a punch, leaving a scratch on Rikito’s face.

He hit me!? Rikito was flustered for an instant.

Dammit, as I thought, he’s too strong after transforming! Rayon grimaced.

“Then I’ll just have to go all out!”

Rayon started gathering aether into his hands, preparing to display a devastating art.

  “Purple—”

  “Fiendish Crusher!”

Rikito released a merciless melee attack that knocked out Rayon in one hit, canceling out his art before it could even form.

“Hmph, pathetic. I didn’t even use half my strength. He’ll live.”

Wow, I had a feeling it might be a one-sided fight, but Rikito was able to defeat Rayon in one blow…

“Woah! Rikito finished this match in less than a minute! I guess he must be eager to get to the next round! Don’t worry, folks! The next round will start in just thirty minutes!”

  [Thirty minutes later]

“Good news, folks! The arrangements for the second round have been decided! In this round, we will have a classic bracket-style tournament! The order can be viewed here!”

A holo-screen projected the bracket seeds.

  Akira vs. Leo

  Rikito vs. Bag

  Draig vs. Malek

  Lian vs. Kira

“Now, let the first match begin!”

“Lucky me. I wanted a chance to see your moves up close, and I got it,” Akira said as he hopped on the stage.

Leo was unresponsive, clenching his teeth as he tried to focus.

“Alright, show me what you can do!” Akira took his stance.

Leo hesitated; this guy is powerful… what was that transformation he used in the first round?

  “Well, come on then!”

Suddenly, Leo let out a battle cry. He powered up, releasing all his aether.

Wow, I was right! This guy is almost as strong as me, and he’s still a kid!

  Leo and Akira clashed.

Akira held back, so they were even, but Leo was just getting started.

“Come on, I know you can do better than that!”

Akira continued provoking Leo throughout the battle.

They continued trading fierce blows, each shockwave shaking the arena as gusts of wind flew in every direction.

  Eventually, Leo began to tire.

He started accumulating damage and was fatigued.

On the other hand, Akira was as good as new.

“Infinite Regenerations! You like it? My friend taught it to me, and I put a little spin on it.

With this technique, I can use my natural aether to heal myself without draining Utopic aether!”

“Dammit!” Leo bit his lip and squeezed his fists until they bled.

“I can’t afford to lose here!”

In Leo’s sudden outburst, his power soared.

  “First Threshold: Balance!”

His yield increased tenfold, his wild aura collecting around his body until it was as still as a frozen river.

“Interesting! Then let’s do this… Golden Energy Mode, Layer Five!”

Akira pressed him; his attacks were too fast for Leo to keep up.

Leo managed to block all the attacks, but he was still racking up damage.

  “Ha!” Leo shouted.

With his outburst of aether, he pushed Akira back a bit, giving him space.

Then he was able to even the playing field and return some blows of his own.

The two of them were an equal match for each other. But Leo wasn’t ready to give up.

  “Grr! Second Threshold: Renewal!”

A channel in his meridians opened, and he felt a surge of energy as they pulsed. His strength increased as his stamina returned to him in waves.

  “Ooh.”

  Akira unleashed Spirit Resonance.

“Guess I don’t need my energy mode anymore. You sure are strong for your age. Just how far can you go?”

Leo rushed at Akira, but it was easily countered. Akira beat Leo down and then almost knocked him off the stage.

“That’s enough. If that’s your limit, then you should just surrender.”

“N-no!” Leo said as he struggled to get up, “I must win! My family entrusted the fate of our clan to me! I must get stronger to keep my promise to them!

  Third Threshold: Singularity!”

  Another channel opened.

Once again, Leo had a rush of strength, but this time it was more than his body could handle.

He passed out, but Akira caught him before he fell.

“Heh, that was a great match. You can rest now.”

The medics hastily took Leo to the infirmary.

“And the winner of the first match is… Akira! The next match between Rikito and Bag will begin in ten minutes!”

  [The start of the match]

Rikito and Bag were in a standoff.

“I hope you have something interesting to show me,” Rikito said.

“Hmph. I’ll show you true strength right now, just to teach you a lesson!”

Bag closed his eyes and Focused his aether.

“Isn’t that the technique that Rayon uses?” Akira said as he watched the match closely.

“That yield’s not bad… but you’ll have to do better.”

  Rikito used Spirit Resonance.

  “Dark Lightning Cannon!”

The devilish beam of black lightning darkened the arena, the clouds turning obsidian as they rumbled.

  “Containing Barrier!”

Bag attempted to block the attack.

His energy barrier created a dome around Rikito, encasing him in a prison.

  But Rikito was too powerful.

The dome was shattered, and Bag was overtaken by the blast— easily knocked off the stage.

“Another swift match! The winner is Rikito! The next match-up is Malek vs. Draig!”

“I’ll make this match quick, too,” Draig said.

“Woah, now, don’t get too confident. Just because your last opponents were weak doesn’t mean you should look down on me!”

The two of them prepared to fight as they walked onto the stage.

They both decided to start at full power, neither one willing to pull punches.

“Let’s get right into it! Manifest—Nine-Tailed Spirit!”

Malek launched the first attack, creating a spirit avatar of a giant beast.

What an interesting art! Draig thought as he narrowly managed to dodge the beast’s attacks.

The tails of the neon orange beast stretched across the stage to attack Draig. It was like a never-ending assault from an opponent with infinite arms.

“So, you can manifest spirits to fight with you? That’s quite the ability that you were hiding.”

“Don’t be impressed yet. Heavenly Spirit!”

Malek used an energy boosting technique, the outline of his frame glowing like there was a sun behind him.

  “Woah, that’s pretty strong!”

  “Seven High Mountains!”

A mural of an ancient mountain range materialized behind him. He powered up again.

“Alright! I’ll match you! Spirit Resonance!”

“Not yet. Ten Heavenly Bodies! And to finish this! Five Raging Elephants!”

Ten orbs of glowing light formed above him, floating up and down in the air. The sparkles of energy they seemed to emit were absorbed into Malek’s body.

After increasing his flux and manifesting five muscular behemoths, he now had a unit of six spirit animals and an immense yield.

“Looks like this won’t be as easy as I thought…” Draig said.
