Arc I: “Apocalypse”
Chapter III: “Armageddon”
Episode X: “Rise of Apocalypse”
[The same day – Apocalypse’s Island]
The ground split like brittle clay as a beam of darkness shot from Apocalypse’s castle, staining the clouds above in black and violet.
Waves slammed against the island as if the ocean itself feared what was awakening.
Quakes rolled across the sea, reaching even the distant coasts.
[Woodberry]
Fevee trembled, her sharp senses locking onto the southern horizon.
Akira didn’t even glance at her — but his fists were clenched so tight his knuckles bled.
“He’s here,” Akira muttered.
Bowl was right. The seal kept him dormant… but now, he’s awake.
He turned to Fevee and Asuka.
“It’s time. I have to go.”
“Alone!?” Fevee’s voice cracked.
“Why don’t you wait for Rikito and the others to recover—”
“No,” Akira walked past her to the doorway.
“This is something I must do alone.”
Fevee followed him out, but he turned and placed a hand on her head.
“Stay here— help Asuka watch over the others. I’ll bring back good news.”
“...Right.” Fevee wiped her tears and walked back inside.
Asuka lingered, trembling.
“Akira…”
He turned his head, surprised she hadn’t followed Fevee back inside.
“Hmm?”
Her hands shook before she suddenly hugged him from behind.
“Akira… Make sure you come back to us. Safe.”
He froze at her unexpected touch, then softened in her warmth.
“…Yeah. Of course.”
With that, Akira launched into the sky, the wind splitting around him as he shot toward the darkness.
[After ten minutes of flying]
Focus. This is it. The moment I’ve been training for.
Akira clenched his teeth as he was approaching the island.
Charred forests. Sunken villages. Entire landscapes scorched down to nothing.
Apocalypse wasn’t just waking up — he was declaring war.
I can’t let him get away with all this destruction… everyone’s counting on me! The fate of the universe is resting on my shoulders!
Minutes later, Akira descended over a battlefield of devastation: deep craters, dead vegetation, and black sand twisted into unnatural shapes.
“Apocalypse!” his voice boomed across the dying land. “Show yourself!”
The ground trembled, and a deep, otherworldly voice growled from the castle.
“Who dares disturb my slumber…”
A shadow emerged from the castle’s peak, cloaked in black flames.
“You.”
The figure descended — towering and broad-shouldered, his jet-black hair flowing like smoke, violet eyes burning with godly malice.
“The vessel presents himself. How… convenient.”
As the cloak dissipated, his form became clear: ancient black-and-silver Utopian robes, inscribed with glowing runes and encrusted with small silver gems.
“Apocalypse.”
“So they call me.”
He tilted his head, studying Akira.
“You are brave to stand here. Or foolish. Perhaps both.”
“I’m here to defeat you.”
“Defeat me?” Apocalypse chuckled, his voice reverberating like a sermon.
“You think you can destroy what was once worshipped as a god? Even with an army, you’d fail. Alone? You are nothing.”
Akira smirked, “You talk too much.”
He dropped into his stance.
“Let’s find out… just which one of us is the foolish one here.”
“Very well.”
Apocalypse unleashed his power. His aura exploded, splitting the ground and silencing the sea.
His natural state’s already this strong!?
Akira grit his teeth as his breath hitched.
“Spirit Resonance!”
Akira’s creamy-white aura blazed with orange embers as he blitzed forward.
“A transformation? Oh, I see. You must be a Kaelithian… the same as my son… and my late wife.”
Akira snarled, “I don’t care about the past between you and Rikito’s mother. I’m just here to beat you!”
“Dragon Star Destroyer!”
The golden beam with the head of a divine, yet ferocious beast shot forward.
Apocalypse swatted it aside with the flick of his wrist.
“How tiresome. Try again.”
Akira’s grin faltered.
“Dragon Flash!”
He Aether-Skipped, raining punches and kicks. Apocalypse blocked them all with casual precision.
“Come now. Surely you can do better than this. You fight like a Kaelithian, but you lack their fire,” Apocalypse said coldly.
“Show me your burning passion. After all, you are planning to defeat me, aren’t you?”
Akira’s chest tightened at the insult.
“Shut up!”
Akira backed up while charging another Art.
I’ll fire an attack so powerful that he’ll have to block it!
“Utopic Star Destroyer!”
The gold beam, reinforced by Utopic aether, tore through the air.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
“That’s it?” Apocalypse said as he caught the blast with one hand.
“It seems you won’t be able to entertain me after all.”
Akira teleported behind Apocalypse.
“Dragon Shift! Now, Star Breaker!”
He launched an even more powerful beam from point-blank behind Apocalypse.
The golden inferno burst out in a wild fury.
What!?
Apocalypse took the attack head-on, causing the first beam to collapse on him, too.
The blast consumed the castle entrance in gold light.
“Alright!”
Akira celebrated as he flew into the air above the site of his attack, waiting for the smoke to clear.
Once it had cleared, Apocalypse was revealed to be standing unscathed.
“That was mildly amusing.”
No way… that’s my best move... and it had no effect? Jeez, this guy is a monster.
A smirk started to crack on Akira’s face.
What did I get myself into?
He flew back down to the ground in front of Apocalypse.
Apocalypse cracked his neck.
“Enough games.”
His aura deepened into crimson-black flames. His pale skin darkened slightly, turning ashen gray.
“Demon Form Level One.”
The pressure nearly knocked Akira off his feet.
“Too much for you?” Apocalypse smirked.
In a blink, he appeared before Akira, driving a knee into his stomach.
“Guh!”
Akira wheezed as he flew backward, blood spraying.
“Not bad…” he coughed, floating back up.
This isn’t working. I need more.
“Golden Energy Mode: Layer Ten!”
Molten gold flared over his creamy-white aura. The pressure stabilized his breathing as his wounds steamed in repair.
“Oh?” Apocalypse chuckled.
“Utopic energy. You think a child can wield my people’s stolen birthright?”
Akira vanished.
“Dragon Flash!”
He struck from behind.
“Better,” Apocalypse muttered, still blocking every strike.
“I think it’s my turn now, no?”
Apocalypse said as he raised one of his hands to his torso.
“Dark Orb.”
A small purple orb formed in Apocalypse’s hand. Then he slowly pointed it at Akira before pushing it towards him.
That attack doesn’t seem that impressive… but I shouldn’t underestimate it!
Akira backed away from the attack.
“Pointless. My Dark Orb… is a very gluttonous attack.”
The orb started absorbing everything around it.
The ground, the air, the very energy in the environment. It rapidly expanded in size and swiftly made its way towards Akira.
“What the hell!?”
Akira tried to run from the attack, but it continued to follow him.
“Alright, then let’s try this!”
He fired aether blasts at the orb, but it absorbed those, too.
Damn.
Akira took one final jump backwards, then charged a beam attack.
“Star Breaker!”
The beam clashed with the orb, both struggling to push back the other.
“Hmph. It’s no use. My orb will destroy everything in its path until it’s satisfied.”
“Says you! HAAA!”
Akira gave another push to his beam.
He managed to push the orb back, and by tilting his beam, he launched the orb into the sky. This caused a massive explosion that shook the ground below.
Apocalypse dusted off his hand.
“Mildly amusing.”

Fevee stood outside, her skin pale.
Asuka joined her.
“Standing here won’t help him.”
“I can feel his energy,” Fevee whispered, “That… insidious force near him. It’s suffocating.”
Oh yeah, that’s right. She’s really good at feeling aether. I can barely feel their energy from here.
“There’s no need to worry,” Asuka said, staring at the horizon.
“Akira will win. He has to.”
[Apocalypse’s Castle]
“Enough,” Apocalypse’s grin faded.
His aura erupted into an inferno of black and violet. His skin turned pitch black as midnight.
“Demon Form Level Three.”
The shockwave devastated the environment, obliterating the ground and sinking half the shoreline, causing massive waves to crash down on the island.
Akira’s eyes widened.
“This power… It’s like Bowl’s, but worse.”
“Bowl was my shadow,” Apocalypse said.
“This is true divinity.”
He blitzed forward, his fist burying into Akira’s ribs with smooth motion.
Before Akira could react, Apocalypse unleashed King’s Crown, a storm of beams shredding the battlefield.
Heh. This is gonna be harder than I thought! Akira smirked as he evaded the raining attacks.
“What’s wrong? Don’t tell me you’re giving up already. I thought that surely the vessel could entertain me a little longer.”
“Alright…”
I need a change of pace. If this isn’t working, then I’ll have to try that.
Akira degraded to his natural state.
What is he up to?
“Here goes nothing! Utopic Pressure!”
A rush of golden energy uplifted Akira. He was surrounded by a large vibrant aura.
Wow! What a rush of aether! It’s been a while since I’ve used this power… strength is literally overflowing from within me.
“Ah, so you know how to control the power of Utopia… but it looks to me like you have yet to master it.”
“Worry about yourself!”
Akira vanished.
He’s fast!
Apocalypse turned around, predicting that Akira would appear there.
He was right, but quickly after reappearing, Akira vanished again. He continued Aether-Skipping around Apocalypse until he got an opening.
“Draconic Fury!”
He landed a strong punch on Apocalypse. Then, he Aether-Skipped into the air above him.
“Star Breaker!”
Another direct hit.
How much energy does this boy have? He’s been throwing out attacks left and right, and yet he doesn’t appear fatigued at all!
“One more! Utopic Dragon Star Destroyer!”
Combining his Utopic aether with his Dragon energy form, Akira created another new technique.
“Persistent brat,” Apocalypse muttered.
“Dark Void!”
Apocalypse created a dome covering his body. It neutralized Akira’s attack completely.
“Dammit!”
No matter what I do, my attacks have no effect. At this rate, it looks like my only option is a battle of attrition.
“Dark Pillar!” Apocalypse shouted as he fired a beam at Akira.
It’s too fast, I can’t dodge it!
“HA!”
Akira surrounded himself in a cloak of energy to block the attack. The blast burned through the skin on Akira’s arms.
“Impressive, you managed to block that… but it’s meaningless now that you’re injured.”
“What injury?” Akira chuckled.
He wrapped himself in Utopic energy, and it soothed his wounds.
“I see. So, you can heal yourself with Utopic energy, similar to my Demon Forms. But I’m sure your reserves won’t last for long, and that doesn’t seem to be very effective. If you’re thinking you can beat me in a battle of attrition, then you’re dead wrong.”
“We’ll see about that!”
“Fool.”
Apocalypse spread his arms, lifting his hands into the air.
“My dream was peace… I marched; I bled for it. But alas, your kind only understands conquest. And so, they repaid my sacrifices with violence. In the end, it seems that the only way forward to peace lies within true power. The only option left... was to obtain the strength to dominate all others and enforce your own peace. Now… let me show you the despair of my might. Demon Pressure.”
A black dome of aura engulfed the battlefield. Akira’s lungs tightened as if gravity itself crushed him.
“Can you feel it? My aura, fused with numerous stolen blessings. This is the failed prototype I created for my own Heart of Utopia. A Dark Heart of Utopia, if you will.”
Akira dropped to one knee, coughing blood.
“I… can’t… breathe.”
This overwhelming feeling in the air… It’s like his aether is so dense that it’s weighing everything down.
“You don’t need air in death,” Apocalypse mocked, stomping toward him.
He reabsorbed the dome created by his aether back into his aura, its dense energy coating his body.
Apocalypse dominated the fight. He completely overpowered Akira with his unrivaled speed and power.
“Do you see now? You can’t beat me in a battle of attrition if I can kill you at any time that I want to.”
Akira crashed into the sand, his face bloodied, his breath shallow.
His body was battered beyond repair.
He closed his eyes as light slowly faded from them.
“Do you see now?” Apocalypse’s voice echoed in a tirade.
“You are not worthy of the Heart of Utopia. It was forged from Dystopian sacrifice. You… are a thief wearing stolen glory.”
Akira groaned, the world fading.
“Akira!” the voice of a young girl shouted in his mind, cutting through the darkness.
W-what!? Who said that? Akira thought.
“Akira! Get up!”
Is that… Asuka?
“Get up, Akira! You promised that you would win!”
I can’t… he’s too powerful… he’s way stronger than all the generals put together!
“But you’re even more powerful. Not because you’re the chosen one, or because you have the Heart of Utopia, but because you’re you. Show him the power… of Akira!”
The battlefield went silent.
Akira floated upwards until he was standing upright.
He suddenly felt a rush of power from within him.
His eyes turned gold with a golden eyeshadow as his black hair flared upwards in a different pattern from his Spirit Resonance.
His golden aura blazed, surrounded by floating sigils of light.
[Inside Akira’s mind]
A white void…
Akira stared into the emptiness.
“What the hell!? What is this place?”
“You…” A voice echoed as a faceless being appeared.
“Are you the one who seeks my power?”
Akira turned to see the being. It was the only thing in the entire void.
“Who… what… are you?”
“I'm nothing more than an old spirit. One who has lived through numerous ages and seen the rise and fall of many civilizations. Some may call me God, while others call me a saint. But you… You may know me better as Utopia. I am the Spirit of Utopia, forged from the very being and life force of our old planet and its people.”
“Life force of the planet? If you’re here, inside me, is that why planet Utopia is considered dead?”
“Perchance.”
“But I thought there were other bearers of the Heart before me?”
“Yes. My power has always been drawn from our planet and its people. Ergo, the name ‘Heart of Utopia.’ The power that you yield is greater than that of any of the previous Gods of Utopia. In the war between Utopians and Dystopians, the last God of Utopia, known as the King, collected all the stockpiled energy in the planet’s core in order to defeat the Dystopians. You are the product of that force.”
“Me?”
“Yes. Now is the time. You must take my strength and defeat Apocalypse once and for all! If you allow him to take me from you, he will use my energy to recreate our planet in his image. His might would be so great that he could eventually control the entire universe!”
“Right… but how am I supposed to use your strength? I was never able to during my training.”
“Hahaha. Worry not, child. You are already using my power. But to maintain it, you must keep your heart pure and your mind sharp. Time is of the essence, child. Good luck.”
The being’s ethereal body slowly faded into nothingness.
[The battlefield]
Akira was sucked out of the white void as everything turned black. Before he knew it, he was already awake.
Akira opened his eyes. His wounds vanished as golden light wrapped his body. His hair flared with a divine pattern, his eyes glowing like suns.
Huh!? Akira looked at his hands. This is it! The spirit’s power!
Apocalypse staggered. “That… That’s—”
“The power of Utopia.” Akira took his stance. “The God of Utopia.”
“I-impossible! How did you master it in such a short time!?”
“It’s simple. I just remembered what I came here to do. And what I have riding on this!”
Their auras collided, tearing the island apart.
Akira dashed at Apocalypse. The two of them began an even clash, neither one giving up ground.
Apocalypse snarled, “Do you think this changes anything? That Heart belongs to my people!”
I’m impressed that he can keep up with my combat style. He must also be using an ancient Utopian fighting style, Apocalypse noticed.
It seems… familiar.
“What’s wrong? You’re not getting tired now, are you?”
“Never, you little punk.”
The two of them continued exchanging blows. Neither of them was able to get a significant blow on the other.
“Fisticuffs are so boring, don’t you think. Using aether to clash with Arts is so much better!”
Celestial Rend: Verse of Falling Stars
“Star Destroyer.”
“Hmph. You’ll have to do better than that.”
Apocalypse launched a Dark Orb at the beam, instantly absorbing it.
“So will you! Star Breaker!”
Akira canceled out the orb.
“Alright… time to finish this then. Let’s see how you fare against this! Dark Saber!”
“Celestial Rend: Verse of Stellar Fracture: Star Breaker!”
Their beams clashed, shaking the heavens. For the first time since Akira transformed, he was losing the battle.
Dammit! His attack is so powerful! I don’t know how I can stop this!
“Don’t give up yet!” The Spirit spoke to Akira.
What!?
“It’s not over yet. You still have more power within you. Look deeper… and you will find the strength you need.”
Deeper… I must look deeper… Akira closed his eyes.
And then — more voices. Old. New. Male. Female. Every wielder of the Heart of Utopia before him:
“Push forward, Akira.”
“You are our will.”
“You are Utopia.”
Deeper… there’s still more.
Even though he was still losing the clash, he didn’t care. As if time had stopped, he focused all his attention on himself.
There! “This is it… It’s now or never! Your time has come, Apocalypse!”
“What!?”
His aura surged, enveloping his beam. Along with the voices of the previous wielders of the Spirit, Akira heard the whispers of the Cosmos speak the True name of his Art to him.
Celestial Rend: Golden Draconic Verse of Stellar Fracture…
“Utopic Dragon… Star Breaker!” Akira launched another beam straight through his first one.
“I-impossible!”
Apocalypse pushed back, not ready to give up.
Despite Apocalypse’s efforts, Akira strained his body with all his might and just barely managed to push him back in one go.
“ARGH!”
The divine blast devoured Apocalypse’s attack and vaporized his body in an explosion that split the sky.
Akira fell to his back, panting as he returned to his natural state.
“It’s over.”
The island was quiet again. Not because peace had returned—but because the storm had simply moved on.
Akira lay back in the sand, watching the clouds pass by. For the first time in years, he let himself exhale.
[Two days later]
I wonder… Akira thought as he was unconscious.
What pushed him to this? If he wanted peace… why cause so much destruction?
Why bring harm to so many people… and use his generals— his own family— as tools to reach his goal.
Just what… just how exactly did he see this world that we live in?
Akira groaned as he groggily opened his eyes.
“Ugh, where am I?”
He awoke to Asuka standing over his bed.
Asuka's face broke into a huge smile, unable to contain her excitement.
“You did it! You beat him!”
She dove onto him with a hug, squeezing the life out of him.
When she finally let go, she said, “We’re in Woodberry. You’ve been asleep for two days.”
Akira slowly rose, sitting up in bed as he tried to breathe.
“Where’s everyone else?”
Asuka stood back up before answering, “Darc and Rayon went back to the UFA to report to the headmaster. Fevee is with the village elder right now. Rikito… left— he said he was going on a journey to train by himself.”
“Of course he did… heh. No one’s around to celebrate my victory,” Akira stretched as he lay back down in the bed with his hands behind his head and his eyes closed.
“So, I guess I’ll just have to celebrate with you.” He turned his head and looked Asuka in the eyes.
“W-what do you mean by that?” Her face was flushed.
“Like a feast or something,” Akira said with an innocent look on his face, “what did you think I meant?”
“N-nothing. Never mind, don’t worry about it.”
Asuka had her face in her hands as she shook her head.
“Are you okay? Your face looks really red.”
