Bonus Chapter 06: In Universe Threat Dossier

Dossier on: Thraken Owen Rend Dericote.

Date of Birth: Born early 7931 C.R.C. [Precise date difficult to acquire due to Fondorian calendar drift. Date of birth placed early in the year.]

Parents: Owen L. Dericote Dericote and Naomi Rend Dericote.

Family: The Dericotes of Fondor are one of the original twelve thousand [down to ten thousand] original settler families of Fondor. They were once powerful landowners and frontiersmen. They participated in the culling of the Lilundite, Monj, Lickite-Otulanch, Mite-Murphy and Dertocote families during the first several hundred years of Fondorian settlement and interbred with the small number of humanoid Fondorians [As did all other Fondorian original settler families | Notice: This provides slightly improved metabolism, eyesight, hearing and reflexes]. The Family lost their influence during the first attempted Restoration of Fondor [Failed during unknown conflict between Alsakan and Coruscant ca. -7023 C.R.C.]. This influence was partially regained through martial excellence in support of the syndicates and unions, but lost once more during the second attempted Restoration of Fondor [Failed due to Sith raid during Great Hyperspace war in early 2977 C.R.C.]. Family fully committed to supporting the unions and syndicates resulting in closer ties compared to more conventionally influential families and the trade families. Recent history has placed the family into martial careers once more.

The family currently has 4917 members [1008 Elders, 3109 Adults, 800 Children] divided among the primary branch and the lesser branches. The current head is Owen L. Dericote Dericote. The family knife is held by the ancestral head and the ancestral slugthrower is currently loaned to the heir informal Thraken O. Rend Dericote. The family has slowly begun economic recovery after a series of misfortunes over the past six generations. It is currently unknown who will be the next heir informal as the current one has made it clear he has no intentions to create offspring of his own.

Friends: Elix Welder Riderman-Dericote, Alice Wanderer, Charley Estuary [Deceased], S. Cpt. Luis Sicato, Comm. Faxe Strom, Admiral Dao [Deceased], Admiral Nils Tennant.

Place of Birth: Fondor City, Fondor, Tapani Sector, Rimma Trade Split, Colonies.

Official residence: Fondor City, Fondor, Tapani Sector, Rimma Trade Split, Colonies.

Profession: Republic Navy officer. Previously: Fondor Navy cadet, Judicial forces cadet, Judicial Forces officer.

Education: Graduate of Fondor Naval Academy and Carida Judiciary Academy [Doctorate in History (Done during time at Academies)]

Titles: Marshal Administrator of North East Slice Command, Fleet Admiral of the Republic Navy, Heir informal of the Dericotes, Keeper of Ancestral Slugthrower, recipient of the Medallion of Honor.

Command: 120th Battlegroup “Slice Hussars”, 97th Outer Rim Squadron, 347th Outer Rim Section, Element Little Revenge; North East Slice Regional Command.

Traits: Paranoid, Brave, Wrathful, Cunning, Cruel, Loyal, Ambitious, Empathetic, Ruthless, [Notice: It is uncertain which of the previously mentioned traits would win out in his decision making process].

Additional perks & quirks: Alcoholic, Collector of Star Charts and Hyperspace routes, Member of HONO Clique, Asexual and Aromantic sentient [Seduction and Honeypots therefore unlikely to succeed].

History: Born, raised and educated on Fondor. His family, close and extended, still reside there to this day as is expected of Fondor’s original settler families. Was deemed adequate enough for ship command before the war in the Judicial forces after his education. Posted to Mon Cala before the outbreak of the war after previous service along the Corellian Run in the Core and a stint at Sullust to hunt a lesser pirate gang. After the outbreak of the war he lead a significant raid into Separatist space, making a journey from Munto Codru to the Perlimian and taking a smuggler route back to Mon Cala to avoid Separatist patrols. The Republic Admiral has lead major naval engagements over Mon Cala (Victory), Pammant (Victory), Mintooine (Victory), Dellalt (Victory), Handooine (Defeat), Altratonne (Defeat), Astigone (Defeat) and Balshebr (Stalemate).

NOTE: The three defeats occurred shortly before the stalemate over Balshebr. In luring away forces from Sy Myrth and splitting his forces into smaller Tasforce Detachments, Dericote managed to, in short order, seize Wyndigal and Handooine while having a subordinate eliminate a Separatist squadron in the Byss system. It could therefore be argued that the defeats from Handooine through to the stalemate at Balshebr could be seen as strategic victories for the Republic.

  - F. Admiral A. Farstar, 1st Guard Fleet, Raxus Command.

Threat Assessment: The Republic Officer has proven himself quite competent in military matters. He has shown a propensity for overcoming difficult odds. He has used unconventional tactics before and will abuse terrain and manipulate the battlefield to his heart’s content. He has a love of sensor buoys and proximity mines and is known to use both for trade interdiction, information gathering and battlefield control. Due to his expertise in convoy raiding he has managed to subvert any attempt of counter raids through a mix of sensor buoys and reinforced convoys, stripping his own forces to do so repeatedly. Other than the previously mentioned expertise he has shown himself to be a competent skirmish and line commanding officer. It is currently uncertain how he would do in a full on melee.

Preferred Stratagems: The Republic Officer has shown a preference for arrowhead and spear-tip formations and their derivatives. He has shown competency for the standard line formations and fighter management. He has favored a mixed line, though will often keep his Venators and Acclamators in a second line if possible while (if they are available) keeping his Fondorian ships on one flank and his Corellian destroyers on the opposite flank. He also favors skirmishing forces to lure in an opponent into favorable terrain and has been noted for digging into the histories of naval combat to supplement his terrain based tactics. He is also known to opening a battle with a missile barrage to shred opposing fighter swarms.

Battle analysis: In his raids he prefers fast paced aggressive action from his ships, with a first strike from afar to disorient or destroy his enemy, with a special preference for anti-fighter fragmentation missiles against any advance fighter swarms. Such an opening strike is usually conducted from an unexpected angle. This is followed by a fighter and bomber assault and a charge which leads to a brawl. If his enemy hasn’t been overwhelmed by then, he is likely to continue the momentum and leave before a strong resistance can be built up against him.

In sieges he is much like a Fondorian fauna known as the mudpuppy protecting its nest. He bares his teeth with long range engagements and minor skirmishing from his corvettes and frigates as he analyses the battlefield. If he is on the defensive he will have prepared the terrain if he is on the offensive he will make the terrain his. He will continue to make minor swipes at his opponent until he sees a weakness and pounces without caution. If the weakness can’t be fully exploited, or he believes it becomes too risky, he will, much like the mudpuppy, return to his original position and begin anew.

Note: Be aware, much like the Fondorian mudpuppy, in times of absolute desperation, he is likely to cannibalize his nest and retreat, rather than give it up to the enemy. He has shown willingness to bombard worlds from orbit and according to sources in the Dac system, prepared to scuttle a major portion of the Mon Cala drydocks and shipyards. In other words, if he cannot win, he will not allow his opponent to win either.

Weaknesses: His alcoholism is known to affect his administrative capability. He is also known for overtaxing himself and putting himself (and his men) at the front-lines of boarding actions and in naval combat [This is countered by his experienced staff and adjutant officers], however this has lead to him overextending his position and putting himself and his men at risk.

He also rarely if ever has his battleships and cruisers change planes and approach vectors in an engagement once he has settled into them. However his more maneuverable ships and strikecraft are known to attack from various vectors once a brawl has begun. Thus the stagnation of his lines can be abused by a clever enough commander.

  → Threat level: Medium High

Suggestions: When fighting attempt to use battlefield terrain to your advantage, especially to hide additional forces. He is known to attempt a retreat whenever he is outnumbered beyond a doubt of victory and will retreat if he deems the possibility of casualties to be too high. It is recommended any officer engage him during the time a resupply convoy is on route to his position, as he should have split off part of his forces to secure their safety. As always information is your ally in this fight, close off all known hyperspace routes and have an experienced navigations team aboard to track any emergency jumps performed. Drag the battle out if necessary, but do not be surprised if the officer attempts to gather reinforcements for a counter attack against you. If he overextends his position pounce and remove the commander from his command by any means necessary. It is likely such actions will cause a rout.

Vice Admiral Blox Hatha’s Addendum: Despite what is written about the officer’s weaknesses he is clever enough to delegate command during times of duress. He is also willing to remove himself from the front lines to ensure strategic command. From what the few bugs my buzzdroid attack deposited could gather, before being destroyed, he is also restrained enough in his alcohol consumption to not have it effect him during battle. I believe if I fought him in a long term campaign, in which we both commanded a similar number of forces, without outside intervention, I could whittle him down through convoy raiding. However I do not believe I could win a conventional battle or series of battles against the officer in the same parameters unless I had a multitude of terrain, strategic and supply advantages through him being on the offensive, which adds another series of issues. I advise that any officer who fights him remember caution being the better part of valor.
