Chapter 13: Caught

Erald walked up to Mercy. “I want chocolate ice-cream.”

Mercy nodded and placed his hand on Erald shoulder. “Tag, I caught you.”

Erald stared at Mercy strangely. “You do know that’s not how that works?”

Mercy smiled and showed his fingers crossed. “I crossed my fingers while they were behind my back.”

Erald fell into thought for a moment. “That…. Does work I guess. No ice cream then?”

Mercy shook his head. “I’ll still buy you ice cream. It was fun trying to tag you.”

Erald gave a smile. “It was fun watching you try to catch me. If we ever play again, I’ll have to make sure you show your hands when you give up.”

Erald and Mercy suddenly appeared in front of Wenli’s food stall. Erald pointed at the food stall. “I want chocolate ice cream from here.”

Mercy walked up to the ice cream stall. “I’d like to buy a chocolate ice-cream.”

The owner named Wenli was surprised at their sudden appearance but nodded. She gave Mercy the chocolate ice cream and Mercy paid her. Mercy gave the chocolate ice cream to Erald and he teleported away. With that, Mercy left the food stall.

Mercy went to a park and relaxed on a bench. A piece of paper appeared. “Mercy, you cheater.”

Mercy smiled and chuckled. “Perhaps, but I still won, no?”

A piece of paper appeared, it looked crumpled and angry. “Here’s your wishing star. I think I’m going to come up with a cheater name for you.”

At the food stall, Wenli thought of what she had just seen for a moment. She saw someone buying Erald ice cream. It was weird but not too weird she guessed. After all, it’s not like she could judge since she was a Kejil. A decade ago, she had illegally snuck into Telon City. She came to the city with the help of a teleporter.

Her hair was dyed orange so no one knew she was a Kejil. Although all Kejils had blue eyes, all Kejils also had blue hair. To sell food, a license was needed. For Wenli, getting a forged license was simple. However it wasn't needed since getting a real license was easy if you had identification.

When she first arrived to Telon City, the teleporter helped her get through the process of needing a birth certificate with the help of a hacker. They simply had to enter her data into the city and she was recognized as a citizen. Although she came to the city through crime, she lived an honest life.

A Securer came by and sat down. It was Cailes who found Erald drawing on the hostage with a smile. “The usual.”

Wenli nodded and quickly made a bowl of ramen. She handed Cailes the bowl of ramen and he started chowing down. Wenli smiled as she watched and continued working. She had feelings for Cailes. The feelings came naturally as he kept coming to her stall to order food.

Knowing she was a Kejil, she doubted things would turn out good if he ever found out. With curiosity, Wenli decided to test the water. “Cailes, what do you think of Kejils.”

Cailes slowed down his chowing and looked at her. “I’ll need you to be more specific.”

Wenli looked at her hand. “What do you think of them as a group of people?”

Cailes fell into thought and answered honestly. “Honestly, my stance on them is neutral.”

Wenli looked at Cailes. “What do you mean?”

Cailes shrugged his shoulders. “I know our city was built on the eradication of all Kejils but the things Telon taught and spoke were contradictory.”

Having never gone to a school in Telon City, Wenli couldn't fully understand what Cailes meant. “What do you mean?”

Cailes looked at Wenli strangely, he decided to elaborate. “Think about it. Everything about Telon was perfect contradictions. Some even call her a hypocrite. She teaches kids in school to be accepting of others and kind. This whole country was built on that teaching, it’s why we’re so prosperous. When things comes to Kejils however, all acceptance and logic is out of the window. I can see why her views are so skewed though.”

Wenli became silent for a moment. “Do you think this country could change in the future? For Kejils I mean.”

Thoughtfully, Cailes answered slowly and thoughtfully, “Yes, what Telon taught this country was to be kind while having us committing atrocities. It's been decades. There’s no atrocities left to commit other than embrace kindness.”

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

Wenli smiled gently. “It sounds nice.”

Cailes shrugged his shoulders. “Kids these days are just too nice. They’re not fed on hatred like their ancestors were. They’ve only seen the goodness of the world. They also have one of the best educations in the world.”

Far away on the Mya continent in the country Lingin, there was a prison. With the government no longer around, the prison had deteriorated and few workers were left.

The Kenis Alliance sent in a flying warship to transport the prisoners away. One by one, the prisoners went onto the flying warship. Once the flying warship was loaded up, it flew towards Telon City.

Captain Zello who commanded the flying warship Kevo was not interested in transporting the prisoners, he was more interested in taking over Telon City. Everyone knew and everyone spoke of how Telon City would be the decisive factor in the war between The Izin Alliance and Kenis Alliance. As a Kejil, he did not think the Kenis Alliance was doing enough. They were planning to survive the war ahead when the armistice broke instead of trying to win it.

Zello ordered two of the prisoners to work together to cloak his ship and they obeyed. The flying warship Kevo became invisible and undetectable. It flew towards Telon City for three days and finally arrived. Now, it was time to begin his grand plan of conquering the city. As for Frelie Verji, the Kenis Alliance had intelligence that he received a permanent heavy injury from his battle with Flenny.

In a country called Vizen in the Izin Alliance, there was a secret laboratory. In the laboratory were many scientists doing tests. The head scientists by the name of Lyno looked at the test subject before him.

It was the egg of a monstrous beast. An egg he managed to create through breeding various dangerous beasts. It was an egg he hoped would bring swift victory for the Izin Alliance in the war ahead.

On Paradise Island on the tenth day, Pera and Aespia were building sand castles together. The reason they were doing this was so Aespia could get her mind off the Wood Stalker.

Aespia still seemed scared of the forest but holding Pera’s hand made her calm. The two did their best to make beautifully decorated castles. Aespia didn't know what a castle was so Pera was teaching her about them as they went about building sand castles.

It was peaceful, too peaceful. The peace felt suffocating and boring to the Host. Coming to a decision, the Host made papers appear in front of every player. “I’ll be going to sleep. Call me if something important comes up.”

With that, the papers disappeared and the Host went into slumber. The days passed by and the Host finally awakened. It gazed upon Telon City.

Vengo drank a cup of green tangi juice while walking. It was delicious, far more than he could ever imagine. Telon City, a place called utopia, a place where everyone wanted to live. He had always doubted the things said about it but they now seem true.

He would love to live in Telon City, it would be a dream come true. No longer would he have to live a life of crime. Unfortunately, he was a prisoner under watch. The order he had been given was to cause as much terrorism as possible. If he disobeyed, the chip in the back of his neck would activate and kill him.

Growing up in the Kenis Alliance as someone not a Kejil required sacrifice if you wanted to live. He had heard about how Telon City was made when people fought back against the Kejil rulers. The existence of Telon City sparked many rebellions throughout history against Kejil rules on the Mya continent.

One of the reasons the Kenis Alliance suffered so much was because of the rebellions they had to tend to when the war started. Now, everyone in the Kenis Alliance who’s not a Kejil had to live like slaves under constant watch with the threat of punishment.

Vengo stared at a window that showed his reflection. He was born a slave to the Kejils. A slave that was imprisoned when he fought back while getting beaten alive. Forty years, that’s how long he’d been alive. Looking at his messy purple hair and purple eyes, he could see the face of a man who just wanted to be free.

Vengo walked up to a bank and entered. There wasn't any security at the front at all. The people of the city lived so peacefully that they didn't have to worry about violence. Inside the bank were many people as they were withdrawing money for the festival in three days ahead.

Taking a deep breath, Vengo reached out his right hand to grab the nearest woman in the face. His hand stopped as she grabbed his hand. He looked at her and she looked at him. She was a woman with grass colored hair and grass colored eyes. Her face did not seem pleased. “What are you doing?”

Vengo lunged his other left hand and she quickly grabbed it. The situation became awkward and tense as she studied him. Everyone around looked curiously at the sight. Someone among the crowd recognized the blood seeping out of Vengo's hand. "His hand has Vilith Virus!"

Everyone became alert and started backing away. Vilith Virus was a virus famous for turning entire cities into wasteland. Living creatures affected by the virus mutated into dangerous creatures.

Poki immediately recognized the name. She knew the man before her could cause a lot of damage. Thinking quickly, she opened the Dream Coffin behind him. Since the Dream Coffin could become invisible to ordinary eyes, all people saw was that a dark tear in space opened up behind the man. Poki pushed him inside with great force and closed it.

She wondered if she should run or deal with the city security. Casually, she decided to open the Dream Coffin and walked inside. The Dream Coffin closed and there was no trace of her left. To the onlookers, it looked like she entered a dark tear in space and left no trace.

On the flying warship Kevo, Captain Zello couldn't believe that the tracking chip in Vengo's neck just disappeared. From their watchers, they saw what happened when Vengo tried to infect the first civilian. He was overpowered and thrown into a dark tear in space. The civilian then disappeared into the dark tear in space. From their records, there were no documents of any such superpowers.

The plan to put Telon City into chaos with the Vilith Virus was suddenly put on hold. Based on how the woman overpowered Vengo, she was quite a strong superhuman. "Search Telon City superhumans record, I want to know who she is."

Inside the Dream Coffin, Poki looked at the frozen man. She decided it was time to interrogate him. Some excitement and fear filled her. Was he a terrorist or just a crazy man?

Poki resumed time for the man inside the Dream Coffin and he was able to think and move again. The last thing Vengo remembered was being pushed inside a dark space by the woman. Now, the woman was suddenly in the dark space with him. "The name's Poki, what's your name?"
