129. To Take Note Of A Fleeing Scree

And yet another day for the very two of us, I do say...

How are you doing my dear reader?

And a jolly good morning to you as well, I say...

... (I'm good. No biggie here...)

Ah, very good then. Now, do say, how does the weather find itself by you?

... (Chilly... with an extra chilly... Did I forget to mention it was chilly?)

Yes, yes, you have mentioned it before...

Pity that I had to bother to ask...

  Even still, do I say...

... ("That everything is going just splendidly.")

  Why, yes...

... (Oh, let me try. Ahem... "Everything is going quite smoothly. Why, I and the grand lad are just about ready to go play hopscotch over the terrace of our grand mansion... before we amuse ourselves with the grandness of theatre... Oh, ho, ho, ho...)

Oh, come now, my dear reader...

There is no need for you to be oh, so jealous, I say.

Why, I am well sure that your life has something worthwhile...

... (Uh... yeah... I guess so...)

  Very good then.

Why, it shouldn't bother you then that I shall indeed...

... (No. Don't tell me I guessed right.)

  Hmmm...

Well, then I shall say nothing.

  ... (What!?)

  Oh, come now dear reader...

  Ho, ho, ho...

'Tis not too far off the picture, I would say.

Why, the young lad for example is not near any theatre...

Nor do we find ourselves in something of a mansion...

  Why...

  Hmmm...

Well, that story shall have to wait even longer.

  Indeed.

  ... (Uh... huh...)

All the same, must I assure you, my dear reader...

Do take the greatest of cares...

  To fail to envy...

  ... (Huh?)

Why, would you prefer to live the life that the young lad lives?

  ... (Fair enough...)

  Yes...

  Yes, indeed.

All the same do I say...

That we shall indeed be doing more relaxing things today...

  By the ever present beauty...

  That is this island.

  Indeed.

  ... (You're on an island?)

  Why, indeed...

All the same, must I simply...

  Go on.

  Ahem...

  Ah, yes...

I was just about to tell you of how the young lad had found himself hunting a beast without ever so preparing something to carry it with.

Well, 'twas not really that much of a bother...

Why, the very young lad could merely lift it.

And thereof, did he do so...

Grabbing the beast by the tail...

The severed tail to be more precise, I should say...

And pulling it from the ground...

Removing it from whatever was left underneath the soil.

  And thereof, do I say...

Did he leave the very head and the very rest of the tail...

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

  On the ground...

As well as leave a trail of blood for the very path that he took.

A slow winding path back, I should say.

And even so, must I add...

That the young lad had little to no intention of stopping there.

  Nay.

Why, for the very kindness of his heart...

Would he simply fail to halt at a mere beast.

  Nay.

Why, was he already with his nose in the air...

  Searching...

For whatever other creature may have found itself in the dark...

  Hiding, or even so lurking...

  Yes...

And of them, do I say...

That the young lad did indeed find something else...

  Obviously, I should say.

And of that, even so, with the very severed carcass...

Did he carry himself all the way to his final destination.

  Indeed.

  His very quarry.

  ... (Ok. What's next?)

  Hmmm...

Well, I should say that it finds itself to be quite the humorous animal.

  ... (Huh?)

  Yes...

The very beast known as the giant Scree...

  ... (Scree?)

  Yes, yes...

'Tis for the very loud sound it makes when provoked, and even so, the very humorous way it travels and even so, for the very fact that it resembles a rodent.

  ... (Uh, huh...)

  Yes...

'Twas as the young lad, dragging the very beast did walk on and along...

  Hmmm...

  Ah, yes...

I did forget to speak of the hyena wolf.

  ... (Huh?)

Oh, fail to concern yourself too much with it.

In every realm there are those who conquer...

And even so, those who come to pick up the spoils.

  Such is the hyena wolf.

A beast whose very ideal is to simply look for what is left of a meal...

Or even so, to simply end one who is already on his knees...

To save other things to be said for later...

  ... (Huh... kinda like... hyenas...)

Well, it shouldn't really surprise me that humans of your world would name it so...

Most humans do indeed tend to think far more similarly than they would ever imagine...

  ... (Huh?)

  Moving along...

  Ah, yes...

  The very hyena wolf.

  Name: Hyena Wolf.

Description: 'Tis in many ways as dire wolf, I should say. Even so, does it bare a larger build, with larger and broader jaws... the very sort of which are even so longer... A tail, and a striped hide, most strikingly bearing something of a setting of brown hair... all about its back, from its head all the way to its tail.

Behaviour: A most interesting beast I should say. It simply... works alone... very rarely ever being spotted by a researcher with yet another of its own. Even so, does it remain an ever so cunning fellow... ever the waiter, but never the provoker...

Ability: For its thick hide and even so, for its terrible bite is the beast well known.

Its teeth are far harder than many a metal, and even so, is its bite more ferocious than many the very things it scavenges from.

  Threat level: C

Fact: Why, the young lad did indeed turn to it before it partook of the head and tail he left behind him. The very lad left it alone, I should say. Why, 'tis common knowledge... Their meat tastes absolutely horrendous.

Even so, did the young lad leave the beast to its own...

As it crunched the very bone of the grave-tail's lifeless skull under its teeth.

All the same did the young lad continue his walk...

Dragging the beast he did carry...

  Yes...

And was it as he did walk towards what would seem to have been an opening, that the young lad simply decided to halt himself...

The very reason being that the Scree was very likely now running as fast and as far as it could.

  Yes...

Why, the young lad knew that beast well...

  Indeed.

It would never stay put if he made all that noise...

  Dragging this corpse about.

  Indeed.

Why, in a distance, in the clearing...

He did indeed take note of the sound of bushes fluttering.

  Yes...

Fail to assume that the young lad did not know that that was a Scree.

'Twas most obvious to him, I should say.

Why, for the very fact that chasing it would require that he indeed at full pelt ran off after a beast well known for sprinting, I say...

  Indeed.

'Twas for that very fact that the young lad did simply halt himself...

  And even so, decided...

  Perhaps another grave-tail would suffice...

After all, 'twas the very only other beast about...

That failed to keep moving left and right...

  And even so, why...

Would he eventually require to simply...

  Return to the carriage...

Without even so much as a moment wasted.

  A pity, I should say...

The very young lad did indeed have hopes for the very thing...

  Yes...

All the same would he simply, settle for something much smaller than variety.

However, even still, did he bother himself to take yet one more sniff in the air...

To make utterly certain of the fact that nothing else had been missed.

  And of those things, why...

  Rubberits as always...

'Tis ever a strange thing for them to be missed...

Why, it is a well known thing that should Rubberits fail to be amongst the many beasts in the area...

That therefore there remains by that very area something worth being concerned over.

  Indeed.

  All the same, I say...

  Do consider this...

  My, dear reader...

The very rest of the beasts...

The very pair of remaining grave-tails...

  Well, two pairs...

The young lad was indeed ready and willing to make the trip to both pairs.

'Twould fail to be such a big hassle, I would say.

Even so, the very scent of a giant white owl...

However, this one was quite a ways away...

And a battle with such would very likely require much effort.

That did the very young lad consider, as it was, of course, the very best idea of them all.

  Even so, I should say...

  Was there the very Scree...

The very beast that he could see as he then turned to his left, following a walk into what seemed to be a path leading up to the river...

Across which he could see a Scree...

Which upon taking note of him, simply fled at a terrific pace.

  Name: Scree

Description: 'Tis a fat furred creature with oddly long legs. The sort of which you would not expect upon such an animal. Even so, is its brown and thick fur most... Hmmm... No, I think I shall stop there. It does also bare a large nose. Indeed.

Behaviour: A most humorous beast it is. Why, does the very beast find itself to be an ever so cautious creature. The very sort that would indeed flee at the first sign of battle. And even so, why, does the very beast scurry on its feet ever the more... Oh, do pardon me. The very reason for its humorous nature does indeed exist because of the way it flees. Even so, do they tend to live in small families... some ranging from a few... to many.

Ability: For its ability to run fast is it most well known. Faster than even the fastest horses, I should say. Even so, is it, how you say, very difficult to kill. Why, do only the very best of hunters find themselves doing so. And of that, I tell you, is its skin and fur a defence against those who would dare to hunt it down. And of that I should simply summarise, that the very beast is much stronger than it looks.

  Threat level: C

Fact: Why, should one require a good laugh, should one simply give a member of this fold a scare. I tell you. It does always bring a laugh to my person. Although... Hmmm... Well, I shall simply get along.

  Indeed.

  Following its nature...

Even and so, as a wide gap existed between the very pair of them...

  Indeed...

Did the Scree flee at a speed most unknown to many a beast...

  Fleeing without hesitation.

And as for the young lad, why...

Did he fail to bother jumping over the river to catch it.

  Nay.

'Twould be too much trouble, he would know.

And even so, do I say, my dear reader...

That there remained yet another beast that the young lad could hunt...

  Hmmm...

Time is up yet once more.

... (Oh, come ooooooon. It was just... like... one more sentence.)

Oh, come now, my dear reader...

It would be quite the bother to simply break rules when they are made, wouldn't you agree?

  ... (Mmmmmm...)

  Very good then.

I shall be going now, I say.

  Although, I should say this...

Do fail to let this get you down.

Why, you have a full day ahead of you, I say.

  Indeed.
