And thereof do we carry yet another chapter to this celebration.
'Thas been quite a short set of stories, wouldn't you agree, my dear reader?
... (Yeah, I guess.)
Yes, yes...
A most pertinent set of ideals, I may say...
All the same do I carry...
That the tale must go on...
And thereof, I say...
Yes, the very dire wolves...
I shall describe them when they do eventually appear.
... (Yeah. I gotta admit. I do wanna see what makes them different from wolves in my world.)
Hmmm...
Yes, I do suppose that that is what would concern you the most.
Wonder and not understanding...
... (Huh?)
Oh, worry not...
The musings of one who has seen much...
All the same...
Was it as I did consider telling you this that I did think of yet another most interesting thing...
... (What?)
Well, I thought it would amuse you a bit...
The very sight of what it takes for one such as the young lad to smell something.
Or even so, how be it so, that it feels for one such as himself to smell that far...
... (Well... yeah... I guess...)
Oh, very good then.
Well, I shall fail to tell you of the former...
'Twould be an especially long tale...
But of the latter, must I say...
That there remains much to be discussed...
... (Huh?)
Do consider this...
My dear reader...
Do consider this...
When you smell something...
Are you therefore able to tell what it is?
... (Well... yeah?)
Very good then.
And thereafter, do I ask...
Can you tell where it is...
What it is...
And from whence it came...
Even so, how it is?
... (Uhhh... Yes... or kinda I guess, you already asked that, kinda, not really, and... huh? How the heck am I supposed to know that?)
Yes, yes, very good then.
... (Huh?)
Do allow me to simply tell you this by speaking of yet another sense all humans carry...
That being...
That of their eyes...
... (O... k...)
Yes...
Do consider that, and all the while, do consider how your eyes function...
That being...
Their very power to see what lays before them...
To see where it is...
Where it goes...
How it is...
What it is...
And even so, from whence it came?
... (O... k...)
Yes, now do visualise this further...
Considering this also...
That a bird in the sky...
A very beast that flies over the earth...
Bears the very same thing as you, but merely...
... (Better?)
Indeed.
'Tis of the many things of birds, I would say...
... (So his sense of smell is just... better? That's it?)
Yes...
And also no.
... (Uh... huh... So what was all this about then?)
Hmmm?
Oh, why, do forgive me for being overtly vague...
'Tis not something I would have preferred to do...
I was merely pondering upon it the more...
... (Ok, so what is it?)
Yes...
And so now, considering that bird...
Consider this...
What does the bird truly see?
... (Huh?)
Yes...
Yes, indeed.
Truly, I say unto you, my dear reader, truly...
What does the bird see?
... (Well... it's up in the sky... so...)
Yes?
... (It sees what's on the ground as though it was really close by?)
Yes, yes indeed!
You are getting it.
And thereof, my dear reader, do say...
What does the bird truly see?
... (Huh?)
Oh, come on now. You are very nearly there.
... (I don't get it.)
Oh come on...
Just a bit more...
Simply say this...
What does the bird see?
... (Huh?)
Come on now, my dear reader...
You are so close...
As a giant white owl with its wings in the air...
Gathered over an unsuspecting prey...
That fails to hear it dare I say, my dear reader...
You are indeed that close.
If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Yes!
... (O... k...)
Oh, well...
Perhaps a bit of repetition would help you...
Ahem...
What would a man see should he be up in the air where the bird finds its domain to be?
... (Uh... just a few trees?)
Precisely.
And for the very bird that just so happens to find itself by the air at all times...
Do say, what would it see?
... (Small animals... I guess...)
Yes, yes...
Very good...
Now do tell me this...
In light of this all, what does the bird see?
... (More things than the man?)
Yes!
Yes!
And absolutely correct, my dear reader.
Indeed.
That is what a bird sees that a man cannot.
More.
... (More?)
Yes, indeed.
More.
... (That was the big reveal?)
Yes...
... (Uh... huh...)
Hmmm?
You seem unamused?
... (Well... I dunno... I could have told you that.)
Hmmm?
... (You've said it a bunch of times... That Jake's sense of smell is incredible... and this and that... what does this have to do with anything?)
Hmmm...
Oh, ho, ho...
'Twould seem that you have yet failed to grasp this all, my dear reader...
... (Huh?)
Do consider this, I say...
Should the bird see more...
Then truly...
What does the bird see?
... (Huh?)
Oh, come now do follow through with me...
What does the bird see?
... (More?)
Indeed.
More.
... (Uh... huh... I still don't get it...)
Well, I suppose I shall just shorten this discussion and tell you all the same.
Indeed.
Ahem...
Do consider the very first question I asked of you...
Your very ability to smell what was left and what remained right...
... (Huh? Oh yeah... What I smell, what I smell, twice, for whatever reason, how it is, where it is, where it came from... yeah... that was it right?)
Absolutely correct, my dear reader...
And thereof, do say...
What does the bird see?
... (More?)
And therefore...
... (More... wait... you mean he can... Wait... I think I get it.)
Yes?
... (He can smell more. He can smell things I can't smell. Well... I still could've told you that much.)
Oh, bother, you still are failing to see it aren't you?
... (Huh?)
Do consider this, my dear reader...
When you smell a well-cooked meal...
Most likely cooked by your darling of a mother...
... (Hey, for all you know my mother was horrible.)
Was she now?
... (Well... no. She's great.)
Very good then, do tell me this...
What do you smell...
... (A well cooked meal of chicken with a side of fries, a few slices of pizza and cake for dessert. Black or white forest cake, or maybe red velvet...)
Hmmm...
Alright then...
Do consider this...
What can't you smell?
... (Huh?)
Yes...
What is it that your sense of smell cannot tell you?
... (Huh? Wait... you mean those questions?)
Yes...
Or perhaps I should shorten this conversation ever the more and simply ask of you...
What would the grand lad himself smell?
... (Huh? I actually... I guess he would smell a lot of meat and potato and cheese and cake... Yeah... the scent would be all over the kitchen... So that's my bet...)
Very good then. However, that is fully incorrect.
... (Huh?)
My dear reader, do consider this...
For it shall be required for me to explain what happens next...
What does it mean...
To be as the young lad...
In your quarters...
Smelling something utterly incredible to the nose?
... (Like... an overload?)
Oh, bother...
Are the birds overloaded, must I ask of you?
Simply, I say unto you, my dear reader, simply...
Things are not always so black and white.
... (Well... I guess... I guess the birds aren't overloaded...)
Indeed.
And thereof, I say...
Is the young lad much the same.
... (Huh?)
There are many hidden wisdoms inside every matter on the world, my dear reader...
Even so, is something as simple as one's sense of smell yet an example of them...
... (What?)
Do consider, for example, the very quarry that the young lad is to hunt today...
Why, he does find himself to be utilising merely his sense of smell...
To tell what is where and which remains where...
Indeed...
... (O... k...)
Are you paying attention, my dear reader?
... (Yeah... I... Yeah...)
Very good...
For even in something as the ability to smell...
Remains there many a wisdom...
Indeed.
... (Like what?)
A good example would be the very beast that he finds himself hunting now...
Why, would many a man...
... (Wait! Which beast?)
Why, the young lad has settled for a grave-tail today...
One lying in wait for unsuspecting prey as the very many of them do...
Buried underground...
... (Ok...)
And of it, my dear reader, do consider this...
What does Jake smell?
Hmmm...
No...
I shall simply tell you...
Indeed.
Do consider the many hidden wisdoms of the sniff...
And even so, of the scent...
... (Ok.)
As the young lad has learned from experience and from battle with monsters...
A simple sniff...
Not one overly large...
That one would suffice largely...
... (Ok.)
And of that sniff, one following it, that he may make certain of what the first one said.
... (Uh huh...)
And there I say, my dear reader, lies the very mystery of the nose...
For...
Indeed...
For the very greatness that is the hard labour he put into training himself for such...
Does he now hold it within himself to...
Smell more...
... (This is starting to sound like some kind of long-winded joke.)
Oh bother, do stay with me as I tell you all this.
Ahem.
The young lad does not merely smell the beast when many fail to...
Nay...
That is merely a thing that many would immediately suggest...
But a failure in the understanding of hidden wisdom...
... (Ok?)
Why, do simply consider a single sniff in the air...
As air warm or cold does enter his nostrils...
And then leaves it...
Carrying information...
The very sort of which is useful to him.
... (Uh huh...)
Why, do consider this, dear reader...
Had your mother made you this meal...
And had therefore carried it all the way outside...
Could you smell it yet?
... (I guess...)
Well, perhaps that example fails to be suitable for you.
Do consider this, my dear reader...
The young lad can smell things...
Things...
Even and so, should he remain in your position...
As the very fact that perhaps your mother made a detour on the way...
Why, he could even tell where exactly she was standing...
For how long...
Whether she gave some of your sumptuous meal to another or not...
Well, that much fails to be useful to my explanation, however...
I shall go on.
The young lad can also tell when exactly each and every one of those meals has been prepared...
And tell exactly for how long they have been at the table...
... (Wait... hold on...)
Did you not say that you could tell me of all of this?
For...
Just with a pair of sniffs could the young lad tell the very size of each grave-tail...
The paths they'd taken to get there...
The very places in which they were hidden...
One placed its claws on a tree...
He could tell how warm each of them were...
To say nothing of how long each of them had been there.
Indeed.
And so much more...
... (Really?)
Why, I do hope you understand what I have tarried for so long...
Just to tell you...
... (Well... yeah... I guess it's pretty amazing...)
Oh, ho, ho...
Then you have failed to grasp the true concept behind all this...
... (Huh?)
Do consider this, my dear reader...
If the bird sees more...
Then what does the very young lad smell...
... (More?)
Precisely...
... (Wait... oh... So...)
Yes?
... (Those who see more... see more?)
Precisely...
Indeed.
Perhaps better put...
... (Those who see more... see things you didn't even know you could see by seeing?)
Very good my dear reader...
Very good...
Why, I am glad I did not have to spend an entire chapter telling you all this...
And do forgive my difficulties in explaining this all...
Why, I am most certain that we shall have yet another lesson concerning all this...
... (What?)
Yes, yes, but for another time.
Do wait for such and such a moment as I do eventually get on with it...
While I, my dear reader, simply...
Go on.
... (Ok...)
Ahem...
The young lad was walking through the forest as I did say earlier...
And as I did also say, had he settled on a grave-tail as his prey for the night.
... (Ok.)
And thereof, I say...
Did the young lad, out of the very kindness that blossoms from his very heart, set his eyes on the very largest one of the three.
... (Wait... oh yeah, he can even tell how big they are.)
Yes, the many things about scents...
Why, 'tis a whole world I must say...
Do consider...
How does the young lad see with his own mind...
Now that he sees with his nose...
Better than many a man?
... (Huh?)
I shall leave that for you to consider...
Why, a good example would be how he sees the very art of smelling...
For example...
What does the scent of something long gone feel...
Compared to the scent of something that is still there?
... (Weaker?)
Surely...
But there remains yet more...
Why...
Oh...
I should halt myself...
I do believe I am getting overly excited...
Do consider the very young lad walking about a forest...
Silent as it always is, I must say...
And of the very same, lay before him...
Why, I must add that it was the very second-furthest of the three grave-tails...
The very journey of which opened his nostrils to yet two more...
The very pair of which failed to surpass this one in size.
Indeed.
And thereof, I do say, my dear reader...
At the very base of what was a truly magnificent tree...
Now lay a strange plant...
One with a light green stem...
And of it, something of a massive bulb...
Yes...
Hmmm...
Do simply imagine a large bulge across a stem...
Yes...
A bulge across all areas...
As though an egg upon a small pencil...
Yes...
Do consider that...
... (That's one of the analogies of all time.)
Oh, bother...
Very well then, I suppose I could spend the rest of this celebration...
Hmmm...
No, I shall simply go on.
Indeed.
And upon that bulb, do imagine little hairs...
All the very likes of which protruding out of it...
Ending in something of a colourless drop.
Yes...
That my dear reader, would oh-so accurately describe the very thing that lay before them then...
And even so, it did describe the very thing that lay before the young lad.
Indeed.
Grave...
Tail...
Name: Grave-tail
Description: 'Tis a large green dragon... Well, larger than many would assume... Managing to be larger than many a man, and even so, not that large. Even so, does it bear very short hind legs and very long forelegs, walking as the forelegs hold themselves far to the creature's side as it walks forward. Even so, does it have especially large and thick claws... Claws the very sort of which are good both for killing and for digging... Yes...
The tail is their most well known feature... However... it does vary from dragon to dragon. Yes... And of their long face and somewhat spiny backside, why... I have already spoken it, haven't I?
Behaviour: The very creature is most often found under the dirt or hidden wheresoever it may be. Why, the very beast has many a hiding place. And thereof is it most often silent or still... Not making a sound and not a move either... All the same is the very beast very rarely out of this position... Why, researchers wonder where they get the time to mate. All the same, I say... does the beast outside its very hiding only ever show violence when provoked... Indeed. Otherwise is not much known... Though I would say, should it be discovered... is it quick to hide itself once more. 'Twould rather avoid conflict, I would say.
Ability: The very beast is well known for its stealth. The very ability of this creature to remain not merely soundless... But thereof also still... As though a tree in the wood, or even so, the very still waters. Yes... That very thing finds itself to be as silent as such. All the same, must I say... that the very beast is known to wait for its mark... Attacking the very ones foolish enough to approach oh-so suddenly... Taking advantage of their shock... Lunging at them suddenly... And thereof... Striking them... Crushing them with its claws and biting with its jaws, as you shall soon see. Even so, does it bear a scaly carapace, one that is quite average amongst dragons, to say nothing of their teeth as well. Even still, have I yet to say, that the very beast has claws most perfect for burrowing, and also, for killing.
Threat level: C
Fact: There are many a different breed of the beast. Why, there even exists a pink one called the rose grave-tail. Yes... Coincidentally, the very beast was named by an explorer. Yes. A tale that was. Very well then...
I do suppose that that does bring this celebration to a close.
... (Huh? Already?)
Well...
Yes...
... (But...)
Oh come now, the time is well over...
... (Alright...)
Yes...
Do take good care my dear reader...
Do take good care...
And of the very same, I say...
Do always consider...
To do your best...
And of this day, why...
May it fall unto those good days.
Indeed.
