Chapter XXVI – The last day

She won, but it left a bitter taste in her mouth. She had to use the system, even though she wanted to do it herself.

However, the possibility of losing 35,000 in income was too overwhelming.

She couldn't pass up such an opportunity. She would never have a chance to earn that kind of money at the Academy. She felt terrible about it. As if she had betrayed herself. However, as they say on the Earth: Money may not buy happiness, but I'd rather cry in a Lambo than on a bus. She knew she had made the right choice.

The final battle would take place today against someone she knew well. Deng Zhifang, the first person who had confessed his love to her in this world, and also the secret of the Cambion. She had already seen him fight and wasn't sure if she could win, even with her new skill.

“Hey Minnie, what do you think?” She asked her AI system.

“I chose it myself so that you could win. But most is up to you.” She replied briefly, which was unlike her.

Still, nothing is certain. After all, it's just a silly E-class ability. How strong could it be?

“You underestimate abilities because you are such a monster. Know that most people your age don't even have a single E-class skill. And the difference between F and E is huge, as you well know. For example, your Qi Sensing at F-rank had a radius of only a few centimeters, while at E-rank it was already several meters.”

May realized that she was right. Even her father, at the 9th stage of Qi Refinement, was probably able to use Qi Sensing at a weak E-rank level. She decided to check her profile.

Seeing this, she was quite pleased. The tournament had really improved her spear skills. Real combat for real stakes had taught her more than learning in supervised conditions.

Unfortunately, her progress in martial arts was still slow. This was due to its esoteric nature. To be honest, she was already thinking about buying a better martial art from the system in the future, one that was a little less obscure.

Her stats didn't increase much, but that made sense, as she hadn't been cultivating much since arriving here, being too focused on the tournament.

Deng Zhifang was not an easy opponent. She wondered if she would be able to defeat him.

A few years ago, he wasn't so strong, yet I still remember his fight. However, a lot has changed since then. Nobody is standing still, everyone is moving forward.

She had no intention of giving up.

The Itry Spear Technique cost her 12,000. Such an amount could not be ignored, its power was quite incredible.

As long as he's within range of my spear, I should win. I doubt he'll be able to stop a spear that's three times faster than normal.

Of course, May already knew the flaws of this technique. After all, a threefold increase in speed for such a low price had its drawbacks.

The first drawback was, of course, that she had to have spears, which was the least important thing. However, this technique required constant activation, which consumed a large amount of Qi energy, over 10 per second.

Thanks to her extraordinary Qi reserves, she could maintain this technique for 30 seconds. This may seem like a long time, but the activation took more than 3 seconds, which was another disadvantage.

In short, I have to predict when he will attack me. If I activate the technique and he avoids me, I will waste my Qi. However, if I don't activate the technique early enough and he attacks me, I won't have time to activate it.

In Zhong's case, she was lucky, but here the risk was much greater because Zhifang was a short-range sword fighter.

This technique also seemed to have a limit. Over time, her speed statistics would increase. May knew that at some point, the effectiveness of this technique would decline. Of course, the skill could be improved, just as she had managed to increase her Qi Sensing rank.

However, this technique had been developed for 30 years, so May doubted that she would be able to make any progress. However, that was a problem for the future. At present, the technique still worked flawlessly.

She went out and started getting ready. Before entering, she met Zhifang. He smiled when he saw her.

“You don't even know how happy I am that we're meeting in the final.”

May stopped and looked at him. He had changed a lot since she first met him two years ago. He was still a child, but you could see he was in good shape, which was a testament to his hard work. Was his blood responsible for this? Perhaps. May didn't know if demons were any different from humans. However, logic told her that his strength was far greater than it should have been, even with rigorous training.

Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit.

However, she had no intention of complaining that it was unfair. After all, she hadn't played entirely cleanly herself, as she had her little system. It was a much bigger cheat than being the offspring of a succubus.

“Yes, it's amazing that two people from the same town made it to the final round.”

“Exactly, especially since our town is quite small. But I believe that together we will make it to the Inner Court!”

At his words, May frowned. It wasn't even that she didn't believe in his skills, but she wasn't sure about the sect itself. Lin Yun had already revealed the truth about him. Izzy, on the other hand, had warned her about him. Although she didn't know the sect's attitude towards demons, she suspected that it wasn't the best.

However, he is half human. Does that make a difference?

“Why are you looking at me like that? Don't you believe in me? Ha! We'll see what you say after I beat you.”

“Yes, let's give it our all.” She said and walked away.

Whatever the answer, she had no intention of getting involved.

“Are you ready?” Zhifang asked, before continuing. “Even given our relationship, I have no intention of showing you any mercy.”

“Our relationship? What are you talking about?” She laughed at his words. “Don’t get any ideas, just fight like you would against anyone else.”

“You know what I'm talking about.” She didn't.

The boy scratched his cheek and continued.

“I don't want to hurt you. Can you just give up?” He said with a slight embarrassment.

May was surprised. She didn't even feel offended because of the absurdity of his words.

  “I'm sorry, but no.”

They both fell silent. The audience listened intently. This was exactly what they wanted! They thought it was a passionate conversation between two lovebirds who, despite their passionate love, were forced to fight each other! Of course, it was all just in their imagination.

May had no intention of giving them the satisfaction, so she remained silent. The referee waited for a while, as if hoping that their conversation was not over. Finally, however, with no other choice, he had to begin.

The fight began. Both were very cautious. Finally, she noticed that Deng Zhifang was beginning to twitch slightly, so she decided to activate her new technique.

Could it really be that simple?

Deng Zhifang began to approach her. Like a mouse to cheese, straight into her trap.

Finally, he attacked with his sword. He was within range of her spear. May smiled slightly and, thanks to tripled speed, her spear launched forward.

She intended to finish it in one move. However, not everything went according to plan. The spear grazed his waist. It wasn't what she expected. He started bleeding. At the same time, he jumped back.

Did he manage to avoid it? Was it a coincidence, or...

“Ha! I knew it,” he said with a slight smile. He was wounded, but it looked like he understood something.

Many questions popped into May's head, questions she didn't know the answers to, but she was sure he had figured something out.

That damn Minnie said no one would notice!

“No. I said no normal person would find it strange. Besides, it was my personal recommendation, which is why you didn't pay anything for it. If you wanted something perfect, you could have paid the system for an answer.”

As usual, she is useless. She thought.

“I noticed it during your last fight... Your speed is remarkable. It's a good thing I was on my guard, otherwise it could have ended badly.” He said. “Now the question is, how do we approach you?”

Oh, right. He doesn't know I used up my Qi.

Not everyone used Qi Sensing constantly like May. Even she limited herself after the incident with her father's family.

However, this fact worked in her favor. If he had known how much Qi this technique consumed, he would have certainly attempted to waste as much of her energy as possible.

But how was he able to discover something like that? Was it because of his race? Surely no ordinary human would be able to discover that after seeing just one fight.

He began to circle her. She didn't dare activate her technique. She didn't know if he was going to attack her, so it would be a waste.

On the other hand, if he suddenly attacked her, would she be able to defend herself without her technique? There were too many unknowns and nothing seemed certain. He was still bleeding, so that was a good sign. At least time was on her side. She began to get closer to him. She couldn't wait forever. Her spear skills also improved.

She attacked. He managed to dodge the blow. She struck again, but the boy easily avoided the attack and changed position—now he was the one counterattacking. She defended herself as best she could. After a few seconds, she felt she had to retreat.

Subconsciously, she activated her technique again. She barely made it in time; his sword was only a few centimeters away from piercing her. However, she managed to do it in time and used her spear to deflect his sword. Once again, she managed to injure him. This time, the wounds were much more serious. His reaction was quick, but he was still slower than the archer.

The boy jumped back and looked at her. He seemed confused.

“Again... I can't figure it out. But never mind. I give up!”

“What? But why!” May was surprised. She may have hurt him a few times, but he could still win.

“I have a feeling I would have lost anyway. Besides, I told you I didn't want to hurt you... I'm sorry, but I can't fight properly.

She was confused. She wondered what he meant. Couldn't he fight seriously because he had feelings for her and didn't want to hurt her, or was he hiding something? Did he have some hidden ability, but using it was too risky, or was it something else? She felt anger and sadness. She wasn't happy about winning. She felt bitter and wanted to leave. To tell the truth, she felt disappointed. She wanted to fight more.

Finally, the results were announced. Lizzy's obese father entered the arena and began a long speech.

He finally got to the end and raised her hand, announcing in a thunderous voice that she had won. He then declared that a party for the winner would begin in an hour.

“But before that, let's meet in my office. I have to give you the grand prize,” he whispered in her ear. She nodded.

She entered his office, which was located on the top floor of the mansion. Until now, no one had ever been allowed in there. His office had a huge round window decorated with carved wood, from which you could see the entire garden, which was basically like a whole park. She noticed that she was being watched. She imagined that the man liked the fact that she was admiring the view, as it made him feel proud. He liked it when people were impressed by his wealth.

“Miss May Shan from the small town of Pualin.” He began. “I would like to congratulate you on your victory. I have heard a bit about you from my daughter.”

She had expected it. He probably knew about her encounter with the ghost, as he was the owner of the land. It would have been strange if he hadn't known.

“You know, we mages have to stick together,” he said, gesturing with his hands. To be honest, she didn't understand what he meant.

“But I'm not a mage,” May replied. In fact, not even his daughter was a mage. Only he was.

“You know what I mean. Your mother is a mage, isn't she?” he asked with a forced smile.

“Yes, but I'm not. Excuse me, where is this coming from?" She replied, because she didn't like where the conversation was going. She immediately recognized that he must have had some ulterior motive.

“You don't like beating around the bush, huh? That's cool. Me neither. Become my spy.”

  “What?”
