When the Danger Became Real

Soma turned to Assashin and spoke to him, this time with complete seriousness. There was no hesitation in her voice.

“Assashin… I think someone is following me in the real world. Yesterday, when I was injured and lost all my energy, I saw a man aiming an arrow straight at me. I believe he was trying to kill me in reality.”

She paused briefly, her gaze lowering before meeting his eyes again.

“His appearance felt strangely familiar, and that’s why I want to ask you something. It seems I have a very powerful enemy who wants me dead, yet I don’t know the reason. So tell me… are you willing to stay by my side, even in such dangerous circumstances that could cost you your life?”

  Assashin didn’t hesitate.

“Of course,” he replied firmly. “We are brothers in the end, and brothers help each other when times are hard.”

A faint smile appeared on Soma’s face.

“Thank you, Assashin… or should I call you my little brother?”

Then her expression softened, and she added, “But before that, I want to ask you for something. When I regain my ability to move, will you help me train? I think my muscles will remain numb for quite a long time, and I might even struggle to walk.”

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

She quickly shook her head, as if to reassure him.

“But don’t worry. My injury didn’t cause paralysis, and it doesn’t threaten my life. There’s no need for fear or pity.”

At that moment, Assashin truly realized how serious Soma’s condition was. Yet her warm smile convinced him that goodness still existed in this world, despite all the hardships they had endured—and those still waiting ahead.

He smiled back gently and nodded in agreement. The request seemed simple enough. Without saying another word, he left her room to give her the rest she needed.

That night, Soma remained alone in the dark room. Exhaustion weighed heavily on her, and she couldn’t stay awake for long. She fell into a deep sleep so quickly that she didn’t notice Theo entering the room a short while later.

Theo approached quietly, sat beside her, and gently brushed his hand over her hair. He leaned down, kissed her forehead, and whispered softly,

“I’m glad you came back to us safely… my sister.”

He then left the room in silence, allowing her to rest.

For five days, Soma remained in the same state—sleeping, eating the meals Theo insisted were “healthy,” then sleeping again. Slowly, boredom and frustration began to consume her. She could no longer tolerate the constant stillness and weakness that followed her every hour.

On the morning of the sixth day, she tried to stand and walk again.

  She failed.

Her legs gave out beneath her, and she fell onto the floor, the noise echoing through the house. The sound immediately drew Theo and Assashin to her room, panic gripping their hearts.

They rushed inside to find Soma on the ground, struggling to stand once more. Assashin hurried to her side and grabbed her hand, trying to guide her back to the bed, but she refused.

“I’m tired of sleeping,” Soma said firmly. “I want to return to my work as soon as possible. So what do you say… how about starting rehabilitation training for my weak, idle body?”
