Chapter 3

Thankfully, it seems my precautions were unnecessary.

All the guards have returned safely, after one day of scouting.

"What do you have to report?" Kristina asks.

One of the guards steps forward, the dark elf woman, Teleri. "We divided ourselves in pairs, I and Caelia explored to the south," she says.

"Alright, then we shall have each pair report their findings. Starting with you."

"Understood! About 4 kilometers to the south, we found a road, it goes west to east."

"Then we are close to civilization, that's nice to know." In the future it might be useful to make our own road connect this mansion to that road, we don't have any builders though... I used to have almost as many as the king himself, it's such a shame they didn't get transported with us.

"We also found a village, south east of here, the road goes through it."

  "Did you see its inhabitants?"

  "Humans."

  "I see... Anything else?"

"Monsters here seem to be pretty weak, specially when compared to the ones back home," Caelia adds and the guards in the other pairs nod confirming what she said.

"That's to be expected, our region had very strong monsters compared to the rest of the world. Anyways, next pair?"

Ismet steps forward, "Me and Attia explored to the north. We found a river around 6 kilometers from here... That's all."

  "Okay. Next?"

Dordalus steps forward, "Okan and I found a cave about two kilometers to the east. I didn't sense any magical energy from it, so it's unlikely to be a dungeon." In the future, we could imbue it with magic to turn it into a dungeon.

  "Acknowledged. Next?"

Tycho steps forward, "Nothing of note, just trees."

"I see... Thank you all. That's was very useful information, now please return to your usual guard duties."

"Yes, ma'am!" They answer in unison, before leaving the room.

Kristina turns to Ernst, who was standing beside her, and asks, "What do you think?"

"The river and the caves might be useful in the future, but the highest priority should be that village."

  "I agree, continue."

"It might be useful to get information from the villagers. However, since they are humans, they could be prejudiced against non-humans and undead. I would recommend going in there accompanied by your lady's maid, Rose, to show you are not an enemy to humans."

"So, you just assumed I would want to go there myself..."

  "Am I incorrect?"

"No, you are correct. Prepare my carriage, I will go there pretending to be a foreign noble!"

"You wouldn't need to pretend, a foreign noble would be an accurate and truthful description of you. You are a duchess of Daemonia after all."

"I guess..." It might be better to just be honest anyways. The more lies one tells, the harder it is to keep a story together.

Around 20 o'clock, a fancy black and red carriage pulled by two horses arrives at the village. Inside of it, Kristina and Rose. On the outside Ernst acting as the coachman.

Ernst stops the carriage beside an old man who appears to be on guard duty. "Is there a place to pass the night in this village?"

"There's an inn in the center of the village, it should be hard to miss," the villager explains, apparently not noticing the coachman's vampiric nature.

  "Thank you."

After finding the place, Ernst drops the two women off at the entrance, before leaving to find a place to park.

Kristina is wearing a red and black dress, one of her fanciest ones, to really sell her foreign noble origin. Rose, meanwhile, is wearing the same maid dress as always. Eyes turn to them as they enter the establishment. Many villagers come here to drink during the night, so there's plenty of people.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

Lady and maid both go straight to the counter where the innkeeper is stationed.

"How may I help you?" The innkeeper, a chubby woman, asks in a tone as polite as she can muster. She's clearly making an extra effort since she can see the level of wealth that exudes from them.

"We would like to stay here for the night. Beside us two, there's also our coachman outside."

"That would be three silver them, Miss."

"I unfortunately don't have any of this country's currency, would this work?" Kristina asks, putting one Daemonian gold coin on the counter. God, players being able to create custom currencies for their countries was such a good feature! Daemonian Gold coins have a drawing of a pentagram engraved on them, on both sides.

"Ye-yes it should work," she answers taking the coins on the counter.

"You speak our language pretty good for a foreigner!" Someone drunk yells.

Kristina points to a ring on her finger, showing it to everyone, "This is a magical artifact that allows me to understand and speak any language." In the game this this allowed you to speak with any NPC even if you character's known languages didn't include the NPC's language. It's a silver ring with a bezeled ruby.

"My Lady has also bestowed me with one of those rings," Rose shows an identical ring on her hand. The ring is very easy to craft, so I made them for most of my Mansion staff so they could talk to any visitors. Talking isn't something custom NPCs did in Vera, Emilia would just imagine it happening.

"Oh, I heard of those, I think most diplomats use them," one guy on the back tells his friend.

It seems my hearing has improved since getting Isekai'd, considering I was able to hear that guy perfectly even with all the chatter here. Good to know magic isn't foreign to this world, still not sure if it's the same magic system as Vera though.

"I would like to chat a bit, if that isn't a problem." Kristina tells the innkeeper.

"Of course it isn't a problem!"

"So, to be frank, there was an issue with a Warp spell and we, along with our carriage, ended up here, a land that's unknown to us. We have been unable to warp back." Well, we actually have no idea what teleported us here, but Warp spell malfunction seems like a good story to go with by now.

"Oh, I can't even imagine what that must be like, I'm so sorry..."

"If you could tell us about this land, that would be really appreciated."

  "Of course!"

From the conversation they were able to gather the following:

-The country they are in is a kingdom called Stark.

-This village is called Baum and it is part of the Südfluss County, ruled by Count Fraz Weiz.

-There are two barons under the count, one on the east and one on the north. This village lies within the lands directly controlled by the count.

-They can find the count's estate and a town called Seestadt, which is the county's capital, by going east on the road.

-No one here knows of Daemonia or any other country from Vera.

"I lied about one thing, I'm afraid." Kristina says.

  "Huh?", the innkeeper is confused.

"It wasn't just my carriage that got teleported, but my entire mansion. It's currently in the forest, some kilometers from here."

  "Huh..."

"We will be returning there, so we won't spend the night here."

  "Ah..."

"You may keep the coin I gave you."

"Really? But I didn't do anything for you?"

"I'm paying for the information, it was very worth it," also, I have a bajilion gold coins, so one is like nothing to me. I think it's probably better if she doesn't know that though...

  "Thank you so much!"

"Oh, one last question, what's the populace's opinion on vampires?"

"They are thought of as evil and dangerous creatures of the night, most people think they are just a myth though. Why do you ask?"

"Because I'm a vampire," Kristina answers nonchalantly.

Rose stares at her lady in disbelief that she would reveal her vampiric nature like that. Meanwhile, Ernst, who had entered the inn during the chat, looks unbothered. After all, there's no way anyone here would be able to harm their lady and she already had gotten the information she came here for.

Wary eyes turn to look at the lady now revealed to be a blood-sucking creature.

"Evil, though? I'm quite good of heart, you know?" Kristina says in a sarcastic tone, winking one of her eyes. It's not surprising. Even back in Vera, some NPCs would react negatively to my character being a vampire.

"You drink human blood...?" The inkeeper asks with fear in her voice.

"Never from an innocent person, only of enemy soldiers and those sentenced to be executed. Most of the time I drink animal blood though."

"I see..." She calmed down a bit.

This seem to have helped a bit with the inn's clientele, but there are still some uneasy glares.

"And to be clear, if I had any ill will against you..."

  Area: Pressure

Everyone, except Rose, Ernst and the caster, Kristina, is immobilized by a sensation of dread.

"...All of you would be dead already."

The spell is disabled and people are able to move again.

Kristina sees the innkeeper draw exasperated breaths. Oh no!

"Did I go to far? I'm so sorry! I was just wanted to do something cool I read in a book once! Sorry! Sorry!" Kristina seems to be panicking. Without knowing what to do, she takes 50 gold coins from her inventory and throws it on the counter.

Seeing the amount of money in front of her, the innkeeper passes out.

Ernst smirks and mutters, "Classic Kristina..."

Is he saying this is how Kristina normally acts? I mean, she's an extension of me in a way, but I always imagined her being cooler than "Emilia". Also...

"I can hear you, you know?"

  "Of course."

  Ugh... That doesn't matter now.

  Area: Calm

  Wake

The innkeeper wakes up and seeing the money again almost makes her pass out a second time, but she resists thanks to Calm.

Kristina bows to her, "Please, accept the money and share some of it with the other people I have affected! I'm so sorry!"

  "Alright, I'll accept."

  "And I'm sorry! Sorry!"

"I got it the first time you said it, no need to keep saying it."

  "Oh..."

"Your ability didn't actually hurt us, right?"

"It just immobilizes and fills the target with fear..."

"Then it was just a scare, although a big one, no lasting harm done. I don't know the others, but I forgive you."

  "Really?"

"Really, just don't do it again."

  "Yes, ma'am..."

"Why is my lady acting like a child...? I usually wouldn't be by her side in a situation like this, is this how she normally acts? That's actually... kinda cute..." Rose ponders in her thoughts, having discovered a new facet of her lady.
