Chapter 43: A Tragic Life

Zhuang Zi'ang's act of writing Su Yudiel's name on his exam paper was initially a bit of a prank. Unexpectedly, it yielded an unexpected result, attracting the attention of her homeroom teacher.

Li Junnan told Zhuang Zi'ang that he had overheard some teachers discussing how the top student in the grade from the East Campus had written his student's name on his exam paper. His curiosity piqued, he came to investigate.

"What's your retionship with Su Yudiel?"

"We're very good friends," Zhuang Zi'ang replied. He didn't dare to say that he liked Little Butterfly in front of a teacher.

He then pointed to the ginkgo tree in the northwest corner of the sports field. "The first time I saw her was under that tree. She's really interesting. Once you meet her, it's hard to forget her."

Naturally, he artistically omitted the part about climbing over the wall and skipping css. He also didn't dare to reveal any of their intimate or ambiguous interactions.

Li Junnan smiled and said, "She does often run around the campus, just like a butterfly."

"Sir, why did you give her a bunch of leave slips?" Zhuang Zi'ang asked, voicing the question that had been on his mind.

"You're good friends with her, and you don't know?" Li Junnan asked in return.

"As a friend, if she doesn't bring it up, it's not appropriate for me to ask," Zhuang Zi'ang answered sincerely.

Li Junnan's tone turned somber. "She's not in good health, so I gave her special permission. If she doesn't feel like attending css, she can go out and py."

Zhuang Zi'ang's heart sank. The phrase "not in good health" was clearly an understatement. For a homeroom teacher to be this lenient, her illness must be quite serious. It was simir to how Zhang Zhiyuan was now almost unconditionally accommodating towards Zhuang Zi'ang.

Zhuang Zi'ang had already vaguely suspected this, and now it was confirmed by Li Junnan. So, Little Butterfly was also sick, yet she lived so optimistically and positively. Zhuang Zi'ang felt ashamed; compared to Little Butterfly, he was far inferior.

As for the specifics of Little Butterfly's illness, Zhuang Zi'ang didn't pry further. For one, it was her private matter. Secondly, judging by Li Junnan's expression, he probably wouldn't want to disclose it.

"She's had a tough life. Lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her grandmother. Who would have thought..." Li Junnan's voice choked up, and he couldn't continue.

Zhuang Zi'ang felt like he had been struck by lightning, his head buzzing. Little Butterfly's life story was so tragic. Compared to her, he was actually quite fortunate.

A tear silently rolled down his cheek. Li Junnan handed him a tissue. "She's very lucky to have a friend like you."

"Sir, do you know where she went?" Zhuang Zi'ang asked, wiping his tears.

Li Junnan looked up at the sky. "I don't know. Probably somewhere she wanted to be."

Zhuang Zi'ang couldn't help but ask more about Little Butterfly. Li Junnan didn't know much, but he told him everything he did.

When Su Yudiel was very young, her parents died in an accident. Her grandmother received a settlement and raised her alone. Around the age of 14 or 15, Su Yudiel was diagnosed with an illness that required regur hospital treatments.

The settlement money from years ago was already dwindling, and it was gradually being swallowed by the bottomless pit of medical expenses. Despite this, she remained optimistic, cheerful, positive, and full of imagination, often bringing joy to those around her.

"That's about all I know. Did she not tell you anything?" Li Junnan asked.

Zhuang Zi'ang shook his head sadly. "No, we just had fun eating, drinking, and pying together."

Li Junnan smiled wryly. "That's just like her. She shares her happiness with others but keeps her sadness to herself."

Zhuang Zi'ang completely understood Little Butterfly's actions, as he hadn't revealed his own condition to her either.

The sun climbed to the center of the sky, its rays becoming intensely bright. The school bell rang, echoing throughout the campus, signaling the end of csses.

Li Junnan patted Zhuang Zi'ang's shoulder. "Don't be sad. I didn't come here for anything else. I was just curious to see what kind of friend she had."

Zhuang Zi'ang said respectfully, "Thank you, sir, for telling me so much about her."

The two came down from the rooftop and passed by the teachers' office.

Zhuang Zi'ang requested, "Sir, can you give me your autograph?"

Li Junnan was a bit surprised but agreed without asking further questions. Zhuang Zi'ang took a pen and paper from Zhang Zhiyuan's desk, and Li Junnan signed his name with a flourish.

The signature was exactly the same as the one on Little Butterfly's leave slips, a scribble that was completely illegible.

"Sir, why do you write your name so illegibly?"

"I have Su Yudiel to bme for that. She kept forging my signature to give leave slips to her cssmates. I had to spend dozens of yuan to design this complicated signature."

After hearing Li Junnan's expnation, Zhuang Zi'ang smiled again. She really was mischievous.

After saying goodbye to Zhuang Zi'ang, Li Junnan returned to the West Campus. His appearance had answered many of Zhuang Zi'ang's questions, but he felt that it wasn't that simple. There were still some things that didn't quite add up.

Moreover, learning that Little Butterfly was also ill was like a heavy weight pressing down on his heart, making it hard for him to breathe. It seemed as if fate was pying a cruel joke on two unfortunate souls.

"Son, I've been looking for you everywhere. Let's go eat." Li Huangxuan's appearance interrupted Zhuang Zi'ang's thoughts.

He composed himself and took out the phone from his pocket, handing it to Li Huangxuan.

Li Huangxuan was overjoyed. "How did you get it?"

Zhuang Zi'ang put a finger to his lips. "Shh, keep it down. I helped you steal it from Mr. Zhang's drawer."

Li Huangxuan quickly stuffed the phone into his pocket, and they stealthily made their way to the cafeteria.

"Son, you're so loyal. Lunch is on me today."

"Okay, I want stir-fried beef with shredded peppers and braised pork."

While they were eating in the cafeteria, Xie Wenyong and Lin Mushi suddenly appeared with their trays and sat down opposite them.

Zhuang Zi'ang remained calm and continued to eat his food.

Li Huangxuan frowned. "There are plenty of empty seats. Why are you crowding us?"

Lin Mushi pced a chicken drumstick on Zhuang Zi'ang's pte. "Zhuang Zi'ang, eat more. I bought this especially for you."

Xie Wenyong was astonished. "Mushi, why are you being so nice to him?" Jealousy burned in his eyes.

It's over. The goddess has fallen for someone else.

Zhuang Zi'ang said helplessly, "Thank you for your kindness, but I really can't eat anymore."

Lin Mushi insisted, "Zhuang Zi'ang, you have to eat. You need to replenish your nutrients."

Zhuang Zi'ang smiled bitterly. In his current condition, eating wouldn't help much.

Li Huangxuan reached out and snatched the chicken drumstick, devouring it with gusto. "If he doesn't eat it, I will. It's delicious."

Zhuang Zi'ang kept signaling to Lin Mushi with his eyes, hoping she would treat him like a normal person. But Lin Mushi was too soft-hearted; she couldn't do it. The thought of never seeing Zhuang Zi'ang again was unbearable.

In these st few days, what could she do to make him feel better?
