  =====

Although Lin Hong had no objection to standing in San Ti Shi for three years, he was still a child after all. To some extent, he still had the curiosity of children towards new things. Finally being able to learn practical techniques made him extremely happy.

So in the following days, in addition to continuing to practice San Ti Shi, he also had other activities and had to take out two more hours to practice forms.

As a ham, Lin Hong surprisingly has never participated in any related competitions, which is regrettable. So he decided to participate in this year's CQWW DX contest, on the one hand to add some fun to his relatively dull life, and on the other hand to test his current technical level.

Through the last conversation with oh3lus, Lin Hong also had some feelings. To make continuous progress, one must learn to embrace change and take the initiative to get in touch with new things, and cannot ignore or reject them just because they are not interested for the time being.

After that, Lin Hong contacted oh3lus several times to learn more about the details of the cqww_dx competition. Since the other side had participated in many such competitions, they were very experienced and gave Lin Hong a lot of help and advice.

The CQWW_DX contest is divided into three modes of grouping. Considering his own equipment and environmental factors, Lin Hong decided to participate in the CW mode single-person group competition. The CW mode is also known as continuous wave telegraphy, which uses an electric key to receive and send Morse code signals externally.

Morse code is a system of encoding text as a series of on-off tones, clicks, or light flashes that can be used for communication over a telecommunication channel. It was invented by American Samuel Finley Breese Morse and his colleagues in the 1830s for their electric telegraph invention.

For example, the letter "u" is represented by Morse code as "dit-dit-da", while "hello" is "dit-dit-da-dit dit-dit-da".

The reason for choosing CW mode is mainly because the CW pulse signal has a lower requirement for the device, usually only one tenth of the power required for SSB (voice) mode, and the signal propagation is wide and not easily interfered with.

After deciding to participate, Lin Hong began to prepare for the competition.

These days, he has been consciously training his Morse code memorization and sending skills.

Before that, he had a good speed in receiving and sending Morse code with the electric key thanks to his super memory, but still felt a bit awkward.

His previous method was to establish a correspondence table in his own mind, such as which letter represents several dots and dashes, all remembered clearly. In this way, when he wants to send the letter "a", he will first search for the corresponding code "dot dash" in his mind, and then send out this short-long signal through the telegraph key. Receiving signals is also like this, every time you hear the "dot dash" sound, you need to search for the corresponding letter in your mind first, and then record it on the manuscript paper.

Actually, this efficiency is relatively low. At a slow pace, it can still work, but once the speed picks up, it feels a bit strained. Normally, communicating with him like this is fine, but through oh3lus he realized that during competitions, thousands or even tens of thousands of signals are sent at the same time, and to get better scores and rankings, slow speeds definitely won't cut it.

Lin Hong also asked oh3lus about specific training methods, and the other party told him a relatively popular training method in the world "Koch Training Method", which was summarized and released by an American with the call sign n1irz. In fact, it's quite simple, the principle is from simple to complex.

At the beginning, start with two letters for training. It's best to have a computer that can randomly and automatically broadcast two-letter combinations of Morse code signals, then listen on the side and quickly record what you hear. Continuously loop and repeat the training until the accuracy rate reaches 90% or higher. Then gradually increase the number of letters, three, four... even dozens.

The speed of broadcasting must be fast from the start and cannot be slow to fast. The purpose of doing so is not to allow a correspondence table to be established in the mind, but to convert electrical signals into one's own instincts, just like speaking normally, thinking what to say and saying it, rather than thinking of an idea first, then converting it into suitable language, and finally saying it out.

That's one of the benefits of having computer assistance.

Lin Hong didn't have the conditions, but he thought of a way. He had oh3lus send a random two-letter signal using a computer, then recorded the received audio with his Walkman. For this, he even wasted one of Sun Wu's "Little Tiger Team" music tapes.

Sun Wu didn't know about it at first, but the next day after Lin Hong recorded it, he took the tape to school and lent his Walkman to a classmate who was a fan of Little Tiger Team. However, what came out of the earphones was a strange "drip drip" sound... Sun Hu's face turned green, unaware that this was the result of Lin Hong's tireless efforts from the night before.

Apart from practicing Morse code at high speeds, Lin Hongping also started preparing some hardware aspects, such as collecting materials to make antennas specifically for competitions and making log record forms for the competition.

The CW competition of cqww_dx is on the last weekend of November every year, now it's just early November, there are still about 20 days left, Lin Hong has plenty of time to prepare.

cqww_dx competition is a global event, attracting countless hams to participate eagerly every year. If you can achieve a good ranking in this competition, it proves that your technology is awesome, and when speaking in the ham circle, you will naturally have weight, and you will also be admired by countless peers.

While Lin Hong was making preparations in an orderly manner, many other places in China were also actively preparing for this competition. Recently, Lin Hong often heard people talking about this on the radio, and many people were calling friends who they thought had good skills to get ready for the event.

Time is passing day by day, and the opening date of the cqww_dx competition is getting closer and closer.

In a small courtyard on the east side of Dongling City, four young people around seventeen or eighteen years old were sitting in a circle discussing something, with several white papers placed on the small wooden table in front of them.

If Lin Hong were here, he would notice at a glance that one of them was a diagram of an eight-wood antenna and the other was an inverted V-type antenna.

These young people are all main members of Dongling City Wireless Club, and what they are discussing now is the matter of participating in this CQWW DX contest.

In a certain large courtyard in Beijing thousands of miles away, several young people were also actively preparing for this matter.
