253. Peaceful Fellow (Book Four)

When we reappeared after the teleportation, I did not know what I expected, but I could not help thinking I would appear to see some type of crazy fantasy landscape that would only be seen on television back on Earth or in some type of book, but not really in real life. Yet I was disappointed, and instead, I was met with a really simple looking area.

There were two rivers from what I could sense, and at the fork between these rivers was a city, or what looked to be a city from where I stood, which was just outside of it, and a bunch of people were looking at us.

Ignoring their stares for a moment, the city looked normal. It was not some big guarded walled off castle, but more so a collection of buildings built right at the fork of the rivers and, well, there were walls.

They were not really all that high, maybe about six foot tall, and the gate was decently wide. In fact, a full size sedan could drive through it.

The architecture was simple, and the people that were all staring at us, well, they just looked like people. There were a couple races I did not quite recognize mixed in between all of them, but I definitely saw what looked to be humans, and now a couple of them were walking up to us. These ones were wearing matching leather armor sets that both had a yellow engraving in the middle of something.

Both of them were men and looked human enough, except their skin colors were somewhat of a blend between brown and grey.

"Remember we are the ones who just appeared before their gates. No need to start a quarrel."

I raised an eyebrow at Sendoira. Does she take me for a warmonger? I think I can be quite peaceful.

Anyway, those two guards finally neared us and one of them began to talk.

"Welcome to Freebend stranger. Never seen you around these parts, not sure which power you hail from, but round here armies are not really permitted to enter Freebend. Also, I would like to remind ya that immortal auras are not really allowed to permeate through the city, so if ya kindly keep it under wraps that will be nice."

I looked on as the guards made all of those comments to Lidaz and just listened patiently. I suppose it makes sense that even though I was clearly standing in front of the group, he would assume the person in charge would be the strongest one here, and as the only immortal in my clan at the moment, Lidaz fit that bill.

But instead of responding to the guard, Lidaz simply ignored him and looked towards me.

There was a sort of apologetic look on his face, as if it felt like it was wrong for him to have been assumed the leader.

Of course it was not like I was mad at him for that, but I suppose I will take over from here.

"Excuse me sir, the person you need to be talking to is me. My name is Raizen, and this is my clan.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

“We are not an army per se, and we are just exploring if you will. If it is all right with you, can we standby outside while sending a few people in to get the lay of the land? We are new to the area."

Of course, I did not miss the fact that while the guy before me was one hundred percent in the core formation realm, he did not hesitate for a single second to tell an immortal level being to restrict their aura.

That meant whosoever was backing him inside the city also did not fear an immortal level being, which meant it probably was in our best interest to not act too domineering while we were here. Not that I had any plans to do so, since like I said, I can be quite peaceful.

The guard raised an eyebrow, two eyebrows in fact, before shifting his head from myself to Lidaz back and forth a couple times. Then he finally settled his gaze on me and shook his head slightly.

"Heh, so a displaced clan is it eh. Not too common around here, but we get a few like you every now and then. Though usually it is only a couple of them that survived whatever war they were in, but you lot look like you could win a war right now versus some of the groups nearby.

“Makes me wonder just who the hell it was you lost to, and I hope it does not mean you plan on bringing trouble to our little city here.

“Though that is above my pay grade. Either way, all ya still cannot enter as this big old group, not without getting registered and doing a whole bunch of admin stuff, but sure, ya can stand by here.

“Just do not bother nobody trying to get in, and do not make no trouble, and of course a couple of you can go in just fine. Just gotta pay the fee like everybody else."

After saying that, the man walked away and his silent partner followed after him. It was weird listening to somebody that had an accent. It reminded me of that southern American twang, here in a completely different universe, but it had a nice nostalgic feel to it.

Anyway, we got some information, and although all of us could enter the city, that should not be too much of a problem, especially since he said there is admin work to be done that will allow all of us as a group to get together. Though I wonder if we all showed up in different outfits, would we all be allowed in.

Probably too late for that though.

"Alright, Lirian, take some people and go explore the city. Gather all the information we need to settle in and have a place of our own. Do not start anything, and if problems arise, then come or call for me through the flame if you cannot.

“Everyone else is to split up into four different groups and explore the area around the city.

“Same rules apply, do not start any problems, and if something happens then come back or call for me through the flame. Lidaz, you stay here just in case."

Everyone accepted their orders and moved accordingly, while I simply sat down with Vrusha and the rest of the guard standing nearby.

  Sendoira stayed behind too.

  "And me?"

"Well, you should have a seat and people watch with me. A few of them are still staring at us, so it is only right to stare back."

"Well, I do not mind these orders at all. Though I am surprised you wanted your people to return in case of a problem. I would have expected you to tell them to handle it. Not that I disagree with your choice."

"Maybe back on Earth, but we know nothing here, and the first city we ran into clearly has no fear of immortals, so that already paints enough of a picture. We are small fry here without someone in our corner.

“Probably not a good idea to go around stomping ants when the entire nest can come running. Need info first."

She tilted her head slightly as she responded.

"Need information first…so what happens once all necessary information is gathered?"

  Hmm, well I wonder.

  Hopefully nothing at all.

But conflict will always find me eh.

"Perhaps a few ants and maybe the nests they belong to will meet unfortunate ends."

She gave me a deadpan look but I am ignoring it. I can still be a peaceful fellow.
